Maxwell Black has spent the majority of his adult life digging through things other people would like to keep hidden. Working originally for the LAPD, occasionally moonlighting and later going entirely freelance, he earns his meagre income from offering his services as a private detective.
Over the years, he has encountered various things that could be called occult’ Maxwell doesn’t go in for it, preferring to believe in a world he can explain. It was during a case in LA that he came to know Jackson Elias; the author seemed very interested in Maxwell’s experiences with the supernatural side of LA. During Maxwell’s investigations, with Jackson helping out where he could, the pair became friends.
Maxwell lost touch with Jackson when he left the country…but was recently asked to meet the writer in New York. Having nothing pressing, Maxwell decided to see what his friend needed.
