AlphaOmega's Tropes

From RPGnet
Jump to: navigation, search

You go onto TV Tropes and look up AlphaOmega. Lo and behold... there is a list of tropes...
This is just a project to find the different tropes that are in the game AlphaOmega. It's meant to be silly. If you are watching the game, come join in the fun and name off some of the tropes! If a NPC doesn't have any tropes, add their name and throw them onto the page! if they avert or subvert, tell us why!

The Game in General[edit]

Anyone Can Die - There is just a house rule that means you need to coup de grace Exalts.
Ancient Conspiracy - The Masquerade, the Messengers, the Technocracy and there will be more. It is the World of Darkness we are talking about!
Power Glows and Battle Aura - The characters' animas.
Personality Powers - The characters' animas again, but now in the Umbra.
Crowning Moment of Awesome - The whole damn game. And no, the person writing this (one of the players) is not being modest.
Celestial Bureaucracy - It's pretty decayed in the Seventh Age, but it still exists.
Readings Are Off the Scale! - It has been said by several people that Exalts are pretty much insane beacons of power.
Beyond the Impossible - Need I remind you that this is Exalted?
Unobtainium - Not quite yet. But the jade artifacts wielded by Wu Jian Chang and Ling Sui Mae do count. Sorta.
Alternate Continuity - This game changes at the moment of the Great Prophecy. The Sidereals try helping the Solars sort things out. Things didn't turn out so well.
Two Multiple Lines No Waiting - Which slows down game sometimes, but adds to the suspense.
Rule of Three Five - Exalted runs with this in the first place, and the GM uses it like he stole it.

Chapter One[edit]

Exposition Party - The wolves at the Red Mountain Caern.
Everyone Meets Everyone In An Inn Casino

Chapter Two[edit]

Crowning Moment of Funny - Because no one expects the Spanish Inquistion Zenith to try crowd control via Thriller. And it working.
End of An Age and Dawn of An Era - Cassidy's prophecy here.

Chapter Two, Part Two[edit]

Literary Allusion Title - Okay, so it's referring to a comic-book, but it's close enough.
Zombie Apocalypse - Caused by The Virus
The End Of the World As We Know It - The characters are marked as terrorists, Las Vegas is pretty much in ruins, and the players broke a hole though the veil of the Spirit World. And it's only the second third chapter.
Xanatos Sucker - The PCs ripping open the Gauntlet, just as Todd had planned.
Leaning On The Fourth Wall - There have been IC comments about how it has felt like a year since the start of that morning (Chapter 2).
Pillar of Light - At midnight, ripping the hole.

Chapter Three[edit]

I Need A Freaking Drink - Current Count: Darius, Omegas, and Cassidy.
Battle Discretion Shot - "A Little While Later", the Ellipse emerges from the battle arena, with John musing about how Troile "went down like a bitch". Also likely to be Lampshade Hanging. Also an averted Missed Moment of Awesome, since the fight will be shown, once the game gets back on schedule.
Flash Forward - Pretty much what the second half of the post is.
Series Hiatus - Why the "Hiatus Post" was written.

Chapter Three -- The Reboot[edit]

Battle Discretion Shot/Gory Discretion Shot - Darius' ultimate fate, fighting Troile's lieutenant Nimrod. Also, Troile's ultimate takedown happens like this. It is assumed that the sheer awesome of actually describing it would have crashed rpg.net and broken the ST irrevocably.
Waif Fu Troile versus a dozen Garou. On the other hand, she was using Potence 10 & Celerity 10....
Nonchalant Dodge - John pulls a Type 2 when Troile attempts to brain him with an unconscious Garou.
Final Boss New Dimension - So after the first round of combat, enough Essence has been expended in one place that the Gauntlet shatters (again), and the battle spills into the Umbra.
One Winged Angel - In the Umbra, Troile transforms from her teenage girl vampire form into her Second Age Deathlord form. The Ellipse is, sadly, less than impressed.
In The Back - Gabe's strategy after Troile ignores him as no threat. And it (sorta) works, too!
Flechette Storm - What Umbra!Troile tries against the Ellipse.
It's The Only Way To Be Sure - Nuking the site from orbit, that is. Of course, the Technocracy being what it is, this happens immediately AFTER the Ellipse killed Troile. Thankfully, the Ellipse made it out OK.

PCs[edit]

Bad Ass

Darius[edit]

Hitman With A Heart - More of a code since...
Anti Hero He IS compassion 1.
Over Nine Thousand - See here, and I quote: 'a Reality Deviant with a primal force body-mass ratio of over 9.2.'
Drowning My Sorrows - He has an addiction to alcohol.
Black Sheep - Ex-military from a family of army. Awkward.
Dumb Muscle - Averted. Because when you can figure out the controllers of reality have no authority over you...
Only Mostly Dead - Took a fireball to the face. Crashed though a window. Is still alive. Subverted in the fight with Nimrod -- he's most sincerely truly dead now, alas.

Cassidy[edit]

Femme Fatale - Subverted. Plays the part, but is a virgin who has never drank or smoked or done drugs. She is more of a Yamato Nadeshiko, and being a Tsundere in her backstory.
Magic Music and The Power of Rock - Two words: Performance charms.
Beware the Nice Ones - All because she really is a wholesome girl at heart doesn't mean she isn't someone who can push someone else to suicide. And has.
Blood Splattered Innocent - Subverted in that the 'Innocent' isn't too traumatized by having the blood of a werewolf who is part of her Calvary get splattered on her face by her Lunar mate.
Made of Iron Adamant - Cassidy's defense is Resistance charms.
The Unfavorite - Parents preferred little brother.
Glamorous Wartime Battlefront Singer - It would be wartime, if she wasn't in the thick of the fight, using her music as a weapon to inspire.
Going Down With The Ship - You know, she could have begun running once Robert went crazy, but nooooo...
Armor Piercing Slap - With red handprint included.
Groin Kick - Subverted in that Relentless Lunar Fury kept the victim from feeling it for a bit.
Luminescent Blush - Her cheeks went "bright enough to almost color her anima" after getting kissed.
Meaningful Echo "It's like what I said before. We have to live for those who were lost."
Pale Skinned Brunette
Unwanted Harem - Let's put it in haiku, thanks to Pascal: Lucifer, Xander, / Rob too. Too much harem an- /-ime for my tastes.
Lethal Chef - Cassidy's backstory justifies her high Resistance skill as a result of eating her own cooking.

Gabriel[edit]

Psychologist Teacher
Heroic Sacrifice - Also a Crowning Moment of Awesome as Gabriel tried bringing down the Technocratic Satellite on Troile.
Louis Cypher - Subverted. Gabe knows Nick is the Morning Star in a human form. Nick doesn't.
Badass Bookworm - A science teacher who can kick your ass with a Corona bottle. Enough said.
Improbable Weapon User - Solar Hero Style: Letting you gank Technocrats with a coffee mug since October 2007.
Badass Spaniard Hispanic - Okay, so he is from El Salvador, but he is still a badass.

Liz[edit]

Le Parkour - The very core of her concept.
Action Girl
Genki Girl
Truth Serum - In Anima Immersion, no one can lie in front of the Scales of Justice.
Crossdressing Player - Dakkareth, Liz's player, is male.
Germanic Depressives - Subverted, as you can see from the Genki Girl concept.

John Palmer[edit]

Magnificent Bastard - Yeah. Just....yeah.
Guile Hero - John might also be this, some days. It really comes down to how you view his actions. Which leads to....
Either Anti Hero or an AntiVillain - Depends on who you're asking.
Too Clever By Half
Badass Bureaucrat What John was built to be. We haven't gotten to see this in action yet, but give it time....
The Stoic - John always seems to keep his expression blank, no matter what happens; the only times he shows emotions, it tends to be in a split-second, blink-and-you-miss-it sort of way. It's also likely that when he lets his mask drop, it's entirely deliberate on his part.
Vetinari Paradox - 9 AM: John is removed from power. 10 AM: The cops are given a complete rundown of everyone in his former organization. 7 PM: The entire city has been turned into a zombie-infested shadowland. Bet they wish they hadn't kicked him out now....
Deal With the Devil - It's pretty much what he does. And he does it really well. (The fact that the unofficial tarot has him as the devil is surely just a coincidence.)
Chekhov's Skill - Eclipse Oathbinding apparently kept a group of vampires from being mindfucked by Troile... Hm...
Nerves of Steel - Troile hits the Ellipse and all of their allies with a high-level Presence/Dominate technique. John, specifically, gets smacked with pants-wetting blinding terror. His response is to blink and get irritated. He then proceeds to call her out, insulting her repeatedly, and waits calmly for a response. From a Antediluvian Deathlord. He also shrugs off a Presence 10 mindscrew and blows a good-sized hole in Troile, before dodging her retaliatory strike (that took down half a dozen Garou) -- all without so much as changing his facial expression.
Shut Up Hannibal - Troile attempts to intimidate everyone after the crossover to the Umbra. John just laughs in her face, then lists off all of her recent failures.
Flipping the Bird/Did You Just Flip Off Cthulu - What John (as his totemic Umbra form, the Sealed Oath) does to Troile, shortly before opening fire.

Robert[edit]

Knight in Shining Fuzzy Shining Armor
More Than Mind Control - Solar Bond's a bitch when it puts you to MDV 0.
Vomiting Cop - '"Rob is valiently fighting his urge to vomit. The moon goddess's chosen warrior he may be, but a seasoned warrior he is not."'
Berserk Button and Unstoppable Rage - Relentless Lunar Fury, full stop. It's powerful enough that he could outright ignore his Mate, who he has a MDV 0 against.
Brainwashed and Crazy -When fighting Antediluvians, Integrity-boosting Charms and Perfect Social Defenses are your friend.
Cooldown Hug - Inverted by him needing the cooldown and starting the hug, subverted by the intention to kill Cassidy, and then subverted again by the embrace (and well, Cassidy begging for her life) getting him out of the Brainwashed and Crazy.

Jian[edit]

Let's Get Dangerous
Elemental Embodiment and Blow Your Away - Air Aspect.
Upgrade Artifact - Not quite a subversion, Johnny was quite skilled before he got the jade breastplate and Chakram. It's simply that Magical jade is a Dragonbloods best friend.
Honor Before Reason - Definitely during Anima Immersion.
The Dutiful Son - He IS still getting married to Sui Mae and finally got his father's pride...
Cooldown Hug - Literally, in the case of getting his fiance out of her brainwashed state. Sui Mae is a Fire Aspect.

Sui Mae[edit]

Small Girl, Big Gun FLAMING SWORD
Chinese Girl
Elemental Embodiment and Playing with Fire - Fire Aspect.
Brainwashed and Crazy- All hail the HypnoTroile!
Heroic BSOD - On realizing she killed Darius. Or so she thinks.
Kill it With Fire - Three words, Elemental Burst Technique.

NPCs[edit]

Shout Out - To Exalted and the World of Darkness, with cameos included.

Xander Shadoweyes[edit]

Werewolf - An Uktena Ahroun to be exact. And called Fuzzy by Cassidy because of it.
The Cavalry - He ends up coming in just in the nick of time as Cassidy is about to play bait for the zombies.
Unlucky Childhood Pregame Friend - Maybe.
Moment Killer - Startling the hell out of Cassidy while she is trying to get Nick to get it in his head that she won't let him feel alone again.
The Worf Effect - He's an Ahroun leading a charge of a dozen raging Garou. Troile takes them all down in one hit, killing most of them. Sort of subverted in that while a pissed-off Ahroun is considered to be among the fiercest opponents in the World of Darkness, Xander was with half a dozen Exalted, making him one of the weakest fighters there, just by default.
Proud Warrior Race Guy - Again, he's an Ahroun Garou. No more really need be said.

Todd Brown[edit]

Driven to Suicide - By one of the player characters. Opps.
Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him? - Subverted. He shot the PC who helped drive him to suicide. She just had a perfect defense.
My Death Is Just The Beginning - It can be said for all Abyssals, really...

The Technocracy[edit]

Techno Babble - The Essence Polarity Converter
Men in Black - They have a damn Convention by that name!
The Matrix
Colony Drop - The Technocratic Satellite.

Troile[edit]

Stringy Haired Ghost Girl - When she came out of the TV at Gabe.
A God Am I - Well, all of the vampires and anyone she mind-controls thinks so...
Xanatos Speed Chess - Well, she didn't expect her new ghoul to blow up a Construct on her, or that the three Exalts would turn up when she needed to feed...
Big Bad - If you need this one explained, you haven't been reading the game.
The Caligula - What will probably happen if she isn't stopped...
You Have Outlived Your Usefulness - Those two vampires she ran into while thirsty.

The Demon Emperor[edit]

Cool Sword - What is he impaled on.
Big Bad - To Jian and Sui Mae especially.

The Shattered Sun[edit]

Large Ham - Anthelios.
Dynamic Entry - Anthelios. By dropkicking an angel. In the face.
Sealed Evil In A Can - Well, not exactly sealed anymore...
MacGuffin Girl Guy - Nick Scratch
Cosmic Plaything - Nick. He gets teleported to places of tragedy and so on. SOMEONE hates him.
Superpowered Evil Side - Lucifer
Sealed Good In A Can - Sol Invictus. If he is still in there.
Split Personality - There's five in there, in fact.
The Woobie - Nick. S. Scratch. Hands. Fucking. Down. (Well, to Cassidy.)
The Three Five Faces of Adam - Well, Anthelios and Lucifer have elements of the Hunter, the Mourning Star and Nick of the Prophet, and Sol of the Lord.

Maleficent Fate[edit]

Mister Exposition - In mutliple blasted chapters!
Training Imbuing the Peaceful Villagers - Cassidy only inspired them, he gave the power.
Pass the Popcorn - Because what else would you eat if you are watching four six Exalts in two different realms going at it?

Hate[edit]

That One Boss - He is an Abyssal Akuma version of Sam FUCKING Haight. ENOUGH SAID.
The Dragon - He is the Demon Emperor's General.
