In the Umbra, Essence warps reality, bringing the abstract and the physical closer together, until they are one and the same. For the Exalted, this can be both a blessing and a curse.

1-3 Peripheral motes: John's eyes begin to appear more washed-out, their colors fading and shifting; his pupils and sclera begin to become pale gold, while his irises pale towards white.
4-7 motes: John's eyes are now bright white and gold; his hands begin to seem washed-out, while somehow being brighter as well.
8-10 motes: By now, John's appearance has obviously shifted. His hands produce enough light to read by, as bright as his castemark. Shadows deepen around him, but even so, the area remains brightly lit. His voice echoes oddly, with the weight of a thousand judgements and eternal laws behind it; when he is calm, this is only an odd effect, but his emotions affect the echoes, causing them to reflect his state of mind.
11-15 motes: Here, John's form recedes into a rough sketch of a man; his hands, though, maintain every detail of their form. He is surrounded entirely by shadows and darkness, but his aura glows blindingly bright, starting a few inches away from his body. The echoes now almost drown out John's normal voice, and each observer hears them differently, as voices from their own memories speak John's words.
16+ motes: Here, John is truly no more, replaced by his totemic form, the Sealed Oath of the Eclipse, enforcer of Heaven's Laws. His hands are the only thing that remain, having grown to a yard long and clasping each other in an unending handshake. His voice is either entirely composed of the echoes when John speaks; when he speaks of order and laws, though, they are replaced by a deep voice of absolute command. Around him, all deals are sacred and binding; those who would give their word casually would do well to reconsider, for if John hears them, then Heaven will enforce their vow, no matter what -- and his hearing is superb in this form.
edit: Also, it has become clear that while the Sealed Oath's natural form is two clasped hands, those hands are not required to remain clasped....
