[[Image: ]] Welcome to the next-NEXTWAVE campaign wiki. This wiki site is a resource for a face-to-face tabletop superhero role-playing game using the M&M system called "next-NEXTWAVE . This site is a wiki which is a web page that can be editted by anyone with surfing the web! The goal of this wiki site is to form a repository of information about our game that is easily accessible and edittable to the entire game group. A "campaign series bible".



Template:Future comic Template:Superteambox Nextwave is a new comic book series published by Marvel Comics, debuting in 2006. It is being written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Stuart Immomen with colors by Dave McCaig . It combines elements of parody and satire into standard superhero plots featuring minor established Marvel superhero characters.

With issue three, the title appears to have changed to Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. This seems to be verified by Diamond Comics Distributors' current solicitations list, but may or may not be a permanent change. The tone of the book and its penchant for temporary tag lines (see below) make this difficult to determine.

Cast[edit]

The cast of Nextwave is a collection of famously C and D-List Marvel superheroes including Monica Rambeau (formerly known as Captain Marvel and Photon), Tabitha Smith (better known as Meltdown or Boom-Boom), Aaron Stack (better known as the Machine Man), Elsa Bloodstone (a monster-hunter) and "The Captain" (formerly known as Captain ☠☠☠☠). These individuals join together to form H.A.T.E., or the Highest Anti-Terrorism Effort, put together to fight Unusual Weapons of Mass Destruction. Leading H.A.T.E. is Dirk Anger, an obvious parody of Nick Fury.

Plot[edit]

The team learns that H.A.T.E. is funded by the Beyond Corporation© (an organization formerly known as S.I.L.E.N.T. and currently led by CEO "Number None") which has known terrorist ties; as a result the heroes decide to leave H.A.T.E. Each storyline is made up of two issues, amounting to 44 pages for each plotline.

Taglines and Marketing[edit]

Nextwave boasts a host of enthusiastic taglines, including:

  • If you like anything, you'll love Nextwave!
  • Healing America by beating people up.


While Lowe would love to simply tell everyone to buy "Nextwave" because it promotes world peace and will change their lives, he chooses to be even more eloquent and tell you why, saying "The answer here is eightfold: 

  1. "'NEXTWAVE' is the most unique super hero comic on the market.
  2. "'NEXTWAVE' is printed with mother's milk.
  3. "'NEXTWAVE' will make you fall in love with Warren Ellis (you remember what love is, RIGHT?).
  4. "'NEXTWAVE' is the funniest comic book ever (take that, Dark Knight Strikes Again!)
  5. "'NEXTWAVE' proves that Stuart Immonen made a pact with the devil to make him the most versatile artist in the world.
  6. "'NEXTWAVE' contains subliminal messages that will increase your IQ and lower your cholesterol.
  7. "'NEXTWAVE' gloriously brings four lower tier characters back up into the upper tier while creating a few hilarious new characters.
  8. "'NEXTWAVE' knows where you live. Don't piss it off."

The main marketing thrust for this series is a theme song created by series editor Nick Lowe and his brother Matt, by their band Thunder Thighs, and advertised on their MySpace page.

Nextwave #5 will have a coloring book variant. According to Marvel's site the series is planned to last just 12 issues.

The Highest Anti-Terrorism Effort, or H.A.T.E. (a subsidiary of the Beyond Corporation©) put NEXTWAVE together to fight Bizarre Weapons of Mass Destruction. When NEXTWAVE discovered their employers were terrorist themselves, they are less than pleased. In fact, they are rather angry. So they make things explode. Lots of things. Now with a high velocity of problems running amok from Beyond, what's NEXT?!?! Reinforcements!!

If you like anything, you will LOVE next-NEXTWAVE!!! It's like Shakespeare, but with lots more punching! BOOM!!

STEP #1. Choose ANY obscure Marvel character that could/would concievabley get roped into being hired for the "Next-NextWave"...

STEP #2. Tell their tale of old. Find the background up to when they were last known in Marvel continuity.

STEP #3. What's up NOW. Add to their tale. Explain what got them from there to here. How they've changed in style/look/hero names, etc...

STEP #4. Describe all their powers. Also note any changes from the past.

STEP #5. Stat them up! M&M2e PL8 with as many points as needed. The characters with the least Power Points get more Hero Points (ie. you get LUCK Feats Free!) So if there's 4 players the forth in PP gets 3 extra LUCK Feats free, the third gets 2, the second gets 1.

STEP #6. Check yo'self... stats go by GM-Prime (that's me!)

STEP #7. Mayhem and explosions!! Cats and Dogs living together!! GM-Prime (that's me) runs the first issue/session.

STEP #8. MORE Mayhem and explosions!! Saved by the Bell reruns!! GM-part II (that's random GM die roll at the end of the session) runs the second issue/session.

STEP #9. MORE Mayhem and explosions!! Rainbow Kryptonite!! GM-part III-the GM strikes back (that's random GM die roll at the end of the session) runs the second issue/session.

STEP #10. etc.. etc...
