KJ (Kaori Jane) Martinson[edit]

Born Kaori Jane Martinson to an ex-Air Force Sergeant and her Japanese husband. Prefers to go by KJ and never uses her first name if she doesn't have to, since her father disowned her for becoming a cop. A gay daughter he was fine with – a cop, not so much.

She rose rapidly through the ranks on the basis of her investigative skills, and in spite of her people skills, or lack thereof. She became Detective Martinson at a younger than normal age (though not the record, by any means).

It was expected that, sooner or later, her lack of social ability would trip her up, but it never seemed to. It could have, though. She was hiding a dark secret, one that was rapidly spinning out of control.

Shortly after becoming Detective, KJ had become infatuated with a pretty blonde, Mel Harrison. She abused her access to police information sources to manipulate a meeting, and started a relationship. That was bad enough, but Mel found it amusing – until they broke up, when KJ learned that Mel was the daughter of a local boss, Davey Gennady (Mel uses her mother's maiden name).

Davey, for all that he was estranged from his daughter, kept an eye on her, and in the aftermath of the break up, took it upon himself to show KJ the error of her ways – by threatening to expose her wrongdoing unless she looked the other way on minor crimes.

She did, but that just dug her in deeper, and soon, they weren't so minor. Then Davey started making noises about her moonlighting at one of his 'houses' – and not as a guard. KJ started to panic, not sure how she'd break free of him.

Then came the visit, and a ray of hope. There was every possibility that the foundation was as bad as Davey, but she didn't think so. She jumped at the chance and they did whatever they did to get him to let her get away and not tell.

KJ is about 6' tall, with waist length dark brown hair and brown eyes. On duty, she wears whatever is considered appropriate, but off-duty, t-shirts, jeans and high top sneakers are more her speed.
