Background:

Parents' Class: Serf

Languages: Opalarian, Nascerine, Ancient Kaikuhuran.

Sari memorized all three sections of the holy texts by his teens, gaining himself the honorific Hafiz and drawing the attention of the local holy man. Further tests saw Sari placed with Baba Salman al-Farisi of the Bekta'ashim, a group of mystics. A life of prayer and contemplation was interrupted by one of the infidel's seemingly endless assaults upon Ta'ashim lands. On this occasion the result was a split in the Bekta'ashim themselves. One side believing that they should remain focused upon the wahdat-i-batin and the other, more active, group choosing to take action prompted by the wujud-i-zahir.

Sari chose to join the latter group in the formation of the Jaysh-al-Bekta'ashim-wa-zahir. What followed was fifteen years of war as the Jaysh helped repel the invaders time and time again. In the end only 17 of the original number (somewhat over a thousand) survived the battles and bloodshed. About five years or so ago, the decision was made to disband the order, some returned to the Bekta'ashim and some did not. Sari, again, fell into the latter category.

Instead he chose to walk the lands of the Ta'ashim, following the path of wandering Darwish, and taking work where he can. Darwishes are well-regarded in all lands of the Illuminate and Sari's ability to quote both primary and secondary Ta'ashim texts as well as provide both legal and mystical exegesis means he rarely faces difficulty. Nonetheless he prefers to work his way and, when travelling long distances, tends to hire on as a caravan guard if he can.

Might request literacy?

Character is literate in Jezant and Qemor hieroglyphics.

He has a large number of texts on him The Illuminated Manuscript ( The Q'ran), Two books of Hadith, The Parliament of Birds, The Diwan of Zeb-un-Nissa and a notebook of his own containing poems, notations and musings. He also has ink and styli in a leather satchel.
