Spathos, possibly an Imperial 'sanctioned' psion. Buck's not sure.

Buckley Cordillon is the 3rd son of Baron of Cordillon. Cordillon, a Mars-like planet, was granted to his family generations ago, and served as the family estate. And that family had a secret. All of them were Psionic.

When Buck reached his majority, he assumed he would undergo training like his older brothers and sisters. This arrogant assumption angered the Baron, who didn't want a braggart boasting of the family's secret. After a stern tongue lashing, the Baron had Buck escorted off planet, and given a small amount of cash. "If you can find your way back on your own, we'll see about that training."

Buck made his way through the wilderness (Survival) to the city, where he bummed around a while, saving up cash doing bagman and lookout work for a ticket off planet. (Streetwise and Recon) A Free Trader's crew got in trouble, and he helped one of the crew, Joshua hault Stern, get them out of the lockup. That earned him a small discount on the ticket, and he was able to get back to Cordillon sooner than he thought.

The Baron, impressed, allowed to him start developing his Psionics.

He takes to it like a fish to water, and the next four years pass quickly. He's still a bit cocksure, and the Baron holds off on advancing him. He learns the basics of fencing, strengthens his mind, and begins bending spoons (Melee 0, +1 PSI, TK 1)

Telekinesis, while useful, doesn't fit well in the family business of subtle spying. The Baron pushes him hard to open his mind, and Buck almost quits several times. He finally breaks through, and learns enough of (Contact) to make them assume that he is an old school pal. (Telepathy 1, Contact)

Now more able, he travels with a few trade delegations. Picking up a distressed scout, Ronnie Caststeel, they find evidence of a Zho plot. That almost goes badly, but Buck wins through, his TK coming in use more than once. The Baron is pleased (TK+1 Aware 1, Contact).

Buck decides it's time to take it easy, and lazes about the sector, visiting casinos (Gamble 1). News of the Baron's ill health brings him home, and the death of his oldest brother Richard eight years ago, and no clear will results in a power struggle amongst the family. (Persuade 1)

His younger brother Charles wins though, after Buck's older brother Bifferton (whom Buck backed) is accused of affairs with an Aslan Princess.

Shamed, Buck renounces his title, and heads off planet.

He brings with him an old blade from his wandering survival days, knowledge of contacts from his work in the family 'business', and shares in an old salvage ship that he had invested in way back when. The Baron enrolled him in the TAS after the Zho conflict.

Buck's still a bit arrogant, but its tempered now by what he can actually do, and he is circumspect. He is not adverse to working hard...he just would rather not.

He hates the Zho from his brush with them, and dislikes the Aslan, irrationally blaming them for his downfall with his family.

Buck's double role on the TAS membership means they have a position for him within the society...acting as one of their 'michelin men', checking facilities and responding to complaints. This gives him a (limited) database access card to TAS computer systems when working on the societies orders. It is keyed operative when he takes on a mission, unkeyed after a set time limit.
