Aeliel: /* Sea of Fire */

The South
:Rocky coastlines mark the southern shore of the Central Sea. Atop the cliffs sprawls the city of Rakandra - birthplace of metalwork in the Thousand Cities. The southern lands are unstable, quickly falling away into the element of Fire. Great oceans of magma flow in the distant south, and the air itself glows with heat.

Elemental Pole of Fire
:The Elemental Pole of Fire lies relatively close to the southern shoreline. Only a few hundred miles south of Rakandra's walls, the barren land melts away into a sea of unending flame. Narrow slivers of rock reach out into the sea, and rivers of molten metal flow towards the north. Beyond these shores, the air itself burns away and there is only searing light.

Great Plains
:To the Southeast lie vast plains, settled by nomadic horse tribes. From these windswept plains arose Farrow, the red-maned horse-goddess. The tribes hunt across the savannah, moving constantly to follow the antelope and buffalo herds. Each year they return to the coast during Ascending Fire, when the southern sky grows too hot to range beyond sight of the sand dunes. The summer cities trade horn, bone and leather with the Central Islands.

:The most prized commodity of the Plainsfolk are their red-maned horses. These creatures are never sold, for they are accorded equal status with the humans of their tribe. To take such a creature away from the plains requires the payment of a vast dowry to the tribe's elders - the contract is considered a marriage, as the horse becomes part of the owner's family. The Plainsfolk will not trade their horses through third parties, insisting that all members of the tribe must meet and approve of the rider.

:Humans outside the Southeast consider these cultures eccentric, but they strictly adhere to them knowing that Farrow's eye is always upon her children. Many of Creation's finest warhorses can trace their bloodlines directly to Farrow's descendants.

Karim
:The great pontoons of Karim appear more factory than city, but they house several thousand dark-skinned workers and craftsmen. The city drifts through the Sea of Fire, further south than any other human city. Protective wards and solid jade hulls ablate most of the searing heat, but the environment is still stifling for all but the local residents. Unsurprisingly, Karim seldom has visitors while on its voyages into the ocean of magma.

:The people of Karim track plumes of molten metal as they well up to the ocean surface. Harvester ships scoop up raw metal, ferrying it to the main city ships for fractioning and refining.

:Each month, a convoy of barges sails north to Rakandra, carrying ingots of base metal. Metals are sold to the ten noble houses, according to ancient contracts with the city’s rulers. During the season of Fire, the entire city drifts northwards and docks with the southernmost port of Rakandra. Guild ships ply the southern shores at this time, taking advantage of the shoreward migration of the Great Plains horsefolk and the metal farmers of Karim.

Oda Sul
:The salt fields of Oda Sul provide great wealth to the Sul empire, although this wealth seldom reaches those who harvest it. Oda Sul is Creation’s greatest purchasers of slaves, using them to gather evaporated salt from the steppes.

:Each year, the Calibration Tide wells up over the lowlands, and villages are relocated to high ground in its path. As the water recedes, it is trapped in tiered paddies but into the hillsides, where it evaporates in the sunlight. The highest tiers are harvested first, and the embankments rebuilt for the coming year.

:The lowest levels dry out more slowly, producing intricate crystal patterns. On every seventh year, the harvesters place a garland of roses and poppies into the deepest pool, where they are covered in a layer of salt. These ‘Flowers of Sul’ are considered delicacies, each selling for the price of a hundred slaves. Even handling the delicate flowers without the permission of the Rajahs is punishable by death.

Rakandra
:When Vanar left the city of Yilgarn, he travelled to the southern shores of the Central Sea. Here, he founded a great city of his own: Rakandra, home to the finest metalsmiths in Creation. The city draws on the vast mineral wealth of the South.

:Rakandra is ruled by a Queen, typically one of the Chosen of Vanar. Ten Great Clans trade metal and artisans with all of Creation, buying the city great wealth and influence in the politics of the Central Islands. The richest of the Thousand Cities boast a Master Smith from Rakandra to oversee their metalworks. In exchange for unrivalled craftsmanship in weaponry and tools, the hosting city must sign an exclusive contract to purchase raw metals from the Master Smith's home clan.

:Rakandra's great wealth has lured many of the Central nations, but no raiding force has ever penetrated its iron gates. The Rakandran armies are superbly trained and equipped, and the city benefits from both steep cliffs and a inhospitable atmosphere filled with the ash of ten thousand forges.

Sea of Fire
:The Sea of Fire flows from the southern reaches of Rakandra to the Elemental Pole of Fire. Rivers of liquid glass give way to molten rock and metal further from the northern shore, and few creatures can survive. Fire salamanders and forge rhinoceri live on islands of slag that float on the fiery surface, as firebirds and phoenix soar overhead. The floating city of Karim ranges across the sea, gathering molten metals to sell to the blacksmiths of Rakandra.

The East
:Bordering the elemental pole of Wood, the forests and jungles of the East teem with life. Two major human civilisations are found in the central east, but neither has regular contact with the cities of the Central Islands. The East is also home to the two greatest rivers of Creation. Mzima, the life-spring, originates in the Far East and balances the flow of water out of the West. Aletschis, the crystal-spring, draws on meltwater from the northern glaciers.

Elemental Pole of Wood
:Above the headwaters of the river Mzima, the sky is lit with a warm green light. Anything touched by the light begins to mutate, for the light brings life, growth and change. The lands around the Elemental Pole of Wood are filled with creatures and plants too heavily altered to survive outside the far East.

River Aletschis
:The crystal-spring is the second mightiest river in Creation, fed by meltwater from the northern glaciers. The river triples in size during the season of Ascending Wood, as the thaw breaks up seasonal ice formations on the lower peaks.

River Mzima
:The life-spring flows directly from the Elemental Pole of Wood, and carries life throughout Creation. At its widest point, the opposite shore of the river cannot be seen - it stretches out to the horizon. The followers of the Green Path protect its shores, ensuring that the area remains undeveloped by humans.

Bronach
:The Kingdom of Bronach is closed to outsiders, except with the express permission of the city's Heirarch. The capital city fills a large valley, but appears far smaller - each building is hidden in the trees, and no fires burn here. Other towns remain hidden in the forest, relying upon their camouflage to protect them from the Hunter's tribes.

:Bronach is the home of the Green Path, a druidic culture that works to preserve Beyeate's land. The people of Bronach work alongside plant constructs and wood elementals, and ally themselves with powerful spirits who guard their walls.

:The Green Path have developed the unique ability to cultivate hearthstones from uncapped Demenses, without requiring the construction of a Manse. Such stones vary in power with the seasons, as Beyeate's power ebbs and flows. They are typically not as potent as Manse-borne stones, but their method of construction allows the people of Bronach to preserve their most potent defense: invisibility amongst the eastern forests.

Hunter's Tribes
:The Hunter's Tribes are scattered throughout the East. They hold Vergolte, the Hunter, to be foremost among the gods, and they are guided by shamans to continue the endless pursuit between Vergolte and Beyeate. The tribes hunt both human and animal, and constantly harry the towns of Bronach.

:Each tribe is aspected to a particular predator animal, with Vergolte's favoured creatures (hunting birds) highly favoured. The tribes occasionally work together to repel threats to their lands, but typically act alone. Hunters in the territory of another tribe must announce their presence and intention at once, or they will be attacked on sight.

:Several of the Hunter's Tribes are led by Exalted heroes, often chosen from among the tribe's warriors. Few tribes contain more than a single exalt, however. The Chosen are natural leaders, and typically break away to form new tribes if they arise beneath an existing exalt.

Isle of Mists
:Hidden in the mountains of the Northeast, the Isle of Mists projects from a circular lake formed by a meteoric impact. Densely wooded forests cover the surrounding slopes, and the lake's surface is perpetually cloaked in dense fog. The island is claimed by Eicentia, goddess of sorcery, and serves as a testing site for her spells. Few creatures - god or mortal - risk crossing the lake without invitation, as the sorceress wields powers unseen since the Foundation War.

Lake Simbul
:The largest water source in the southeast, Lake Simbul shelters many small islands near its western shore. The lake is home to many varieties of birdlife, and is famed for the flocks of flamingos that gather in its shallows at sunset.

:The northeastern shore is avoided by humans, as the mud flats host a constant battle between two of the East’s most ferocious predators. River dragons and giant crocodiles fight for territory and supremacy at the top of the food chain.

Port Arek
:Port Arek is located on the intersection between the two great rivers. It is the largest city of the East, and manages a thriving trade in agricultural and pharmaceutical products from the forests and jungles. The city's inhabitants consider themselves Easterners, although they predominantly descend from Central settlers who colonised the area in 748AF. Port Arek is seen as an exotic destination by those in the Central Islands, but those farther East see it as little more than a glorified colonial outpost.

Xil
:Xil lies on the western shore of Lake Simbul, in the far Southeast. Guild convoys rarely travel so far across the savannah, making the city a haven for those with reasons to avoid the traders. The city is largely self-sufficient, hunting megafauna from the grasslands and spined fish from the lake. During the season of Air the city hosts visitors from the Great Plains tribes, who bring trade goods from their Summer Cities.

Their relationship is defined by their intense competition in all aspects of life. Outsiders often have difficulty distinguishing between the two groups when outside their cities, as they appear to dress and speak in a similar fashion. While the cities share a common root language, attempts to speak the local dialects are fraught with danger, as slight differences in meaning can twist a casual comment into a killing insult.

:Unsurprisingly, the God Cypher has played a role in the development of the twin cities. Both cultures are warlike and volatile, quick to avenge a perceived insult. The two royal families are deeply intermarried, as tradition dictates that a victorious army should seize a royal son or daughter from the defeated city for a forced marriage with the victor. Despite their intermingled blood, the inhabitants of both cities would sooner die than give their rivals any advantage.

Lake Simbul
:The largest water source in the southeast, Lake Simbul is home to many small islands near its western shore.

In 206AF, Vanar challenged Ibrail the Warlock, then ruler of the southern pole. Vanar defeated Ibrail, killing the patron of Occult with a blow from his hammer.
Vanar possessed finer weaponry, but Yedan was the greater warrior - killing Vanar with a golden spear. Vanar's body was cast out into the forsaken wastes of the Fire Pole where he burned to ash. He has never forgiven his parents and grandfather for abandoning him while his half-sister, Roane, has been lovingly raised with her family.

Cypher now walks through the realm using his charisma, his formidable brawling skills and his grasp of languages to foment chaos amongst the mortals. He provokes needless and ignoble wars that last for generations merely on the context of a mispronounced syllable. Cypher also tries to turn the mortals against the members of his family. Cypher seeks retribution.
History
Seyanne is the second of the Spray Born, along with her brother Grear. She has a personality which reflects her parents tempestuous relationship. She was born of a storm created by Tardrace and Herneia.

Seyanne was not interested in living amongst the mortals, as her family members do. She lives in the Celestial Palace, engaged in the politics and romances of the immortals. While she sometimes uses her gifts to inspire creativity, she usually just takes the credit for skillful mortals.

Seyanne is a social climber. Unhappy with her lowly position at court, she conspired to cause a rift between the ruling gods and marry Yedan. While her scheming worked, it didn't have the result she expected. Her rival Klesthes remained as a ruler of the Gods. Seyanne gave birth to two children, one to her husband and one to his son, Gard. Her daughter, Roane, is loyal to Yedan, and her son, Cypher, was abandoned in the mortal realm. Grear is one of the Spray Born, child of Tardrace and Herneia, Storm and Sea. He and his sister Seyanne share the traits of being unpredictable and tempestuous.

Grear is notoriously difficult to find. He spends his time travelling from the Celestial Palace, through Creation and the Underworld. When he encounters fellow travellers he offers them invaluable knowledge and information if they can solve a riddle. For those who successfully solve the riddle, the information he gives them is always an even more complicated riddle. If the second riddle can be solved, it will lead the traveller to a complex understanding of the strands of fate that effect them.

The best way to find Grear is through Leith or Ergonus. Leith, as the oracle, keeps an eye on the travels of his friend. Ergonus, as the Librarian, sees Grear regularly as he passes through with his news and requests for research.
