Qian Ai Xian is the 19 year old daughter of Twelve Bones Qian, the leader of the Red Banner Triad, one of the most powerful Triads in the city. Despite Twelve Bones' position as a crime lord, he doted on his daughter, and he and his associates and underlings spoiled her even to the point of teaching her kung fu,

All that changed when her older brother, Qian Lao (whom she idolized) and the heir to their father's position as head of the Triad, was killed in a fight with a rival Triad. Bereft of a male heir and seeing no other way to keep his legacy and organization intact after his death, Twelve Bones arranged for Ai to be married to Xiang Lung, his right-hand man and main supporter.

Ai ran away from home rather than submit to the marriage, and ended up in Inauspicious Calligraphy. She's still a little unsure of what to do now, only knowing that she can never return home. She is still friendly with members of her father's Triad, though she's reluctant to go to them and risk their turning her over to her father. She is, however, capable at kung fu, and with her knowledge of how the underworld works and her combat skills (plus her rather princess-y over-self-confidence), she has become enamored of the idea of forming her own Triad (away from her father's turf, of course).

A setback such as a major kung-fu defeat (or a failure to prove her leadership skills) would cause her spoiled princess-y nature to force her to reconsider her path, and might even make her go back home, chastened and apologetic.

In the meantime, Ai spends her time hanging out at a local watering hole, the Kaiwei Beer House, badgering the rough-and-tumble patrons for work (mainly as a thief, bodyguard, or enforcer) and/or urging them to join up with her (so far with minimal success). When not there, she can be found at the one place in the district that has given her steady work, a brothel named Sweeping Willow House, acting as a bouncer and general protector for the place, taking advantage of her deceptively petite beauty to keep an eye on things at the brothel unobtrusively and take her opponents by surprise in a fight (should she need to). As part of her meager payment, she's been given a room in the brothel, where she sleeps.

As a result, her two closest friends in the district are the bartender and the madam at the two establishments. At the bar, she mostly has a reputation as an eager, annoying little-sister type, not really taken seriously by the customers she pesters for work and/or to join her. She's well-liked by the girls at the brothel as a competent protector, but she has drawn the ire of more than one customer she's ejected from the premises, who have vowed revenge on her for their humiliation at being beaten up by a teenage girl.

Qian Ai Xian is the 19 year old youngest daughter of Twelve Bones Qian, the leader of the Red Banner Triad, one of the most powerful Triads in the city. Despite Twelve Bones' position as a crime lord, he doted on his daughter, and he and his associates and underlings spoiled her even to the point of teaching her kung fu,

All that changed when her older brother, Qian Lao (whom she idolized) and the heir to their father's position as head of the Triad, was killed in a fight with a rival Triad. Bereft of a male heir and seeing no other way to keep his legacy and organization intact after his death, Twelve Bones arranged for Ai to be married to Xiang Lung, his right-hand man and main supporter.

Ai ran away from home rather than submit to the marriage, and ended up in Inauspicious Calligraphy. She's still a little unsure of what to do now, only knowing that she can never return home. She is still friendly with members of her father's Triad, though she's reluctant to go to them and risk their turning her over to her father. She is, however, capable at kung fu, and with her knowledge of how the underworld works and her combat skills (plus her rather princess-y over-self-confidence), she has become enamored of the idea of forming her own Triad (away from her father's turf, of course).

A setback such as a major kung-fu defeat (or a failure to prove her leadership skills) would cause her spoiled princess-y nature to force her to reconsider her path, and might even make her go back home, chastened and apologetic.

In the meantime, Ai spends her time hanging out at a local watering hole, the Kaiwei Beer House, badgering the rough-and-tumble patrons for work (mainly as a thief, bodyguard, or enforcer) and/or urging them to join up with her (so far with minimal success). When not there, she can be found at the one place in the district that has given her steady work, a brothel named Sweeping Willow House, acting as a bouncer and general protector for the place, taking advantage of her deceptively petite beauty to keep an eye on things at the brothel unobtrusively and take her opponents by surprise in a fight (should she need to). As part of her meager payment, she's been given a room in the brothel, where she sleeps.

As a result, her two closest friends in the district are the bartender and the madam at the two establishments. At the bar, she mostly has a reputation as an eager, annoying little-sister type, not really taken seriously by the customers she pesters for work and/or to join her. She's well-liked by the girls at the brothel as a competent protector, but she has drawn the ire of more than one customer she's ejected from the premises, who have vowed revenge on her for their humiliation at being beaten up by a teenage girl.

During the great war against the Enemy, not every ninja clan took sides. Some remained neutral, supporting neither the Council nor the dark young ninja who would become known as the Enemy. The Yanagisawa were one such clan, who devoted their chi-fueled explosive expertise to neither side in the war. When the forces of the Council eventually emerged victorious, non-participants in the struggle such as the Yanagisawa Clan were treated harshly by those clans who had fought and suffered so much against the Enemy while clans like the Yanagisawa hid behind neutrality.

The Yanagisawa have long been considered traitors and cowards by many of the Council clans, despite an official Council ruling that as a neutral Clan, the explosive-ninjas could not be considered allies of the Enemy. Nevertheless, despite the Council's opinion, most ninjas distrust (if not hate) the Yanagisawa as a result, refusing to work with them as much as possible and ostracising them socially.

Mariko, the daughter of the Yanagisawa clan leader, has taken this prejudice to heart, hiding the inferiority complex all Yanagisawa feel behind a facade of uncaring, sarcastic cynicsm. Despite that, Mariko would dearly love to find friends among her ninja peers, and strives for acceptance of her skillful chi-explosive abilties by her Council-ninja peers, knowing that her family could be so much more than barely-accepted ninja outcasts, and vowing to prove their (and her) worth.
