It is ''not'' considered a compliment. She is also not thought highly of as her skill with the lizard-like winged Dractyl beasts is not good.

== Commentary ==
Fun, but bit brief. I like the random chargen, and I want to get Khalos into a fight quickly. Like many combat focussed systems, I suspect this character will come to life only in play.

A character for ''Dread'', created by Screen Monkey. <br>

== Campaign ==

In Dread, every character is created for a single game from a set of questions prepared by the GM specifically for the adventure. Since Dread is a game where each character bar one ususally dies during an adventure, this works kind of well and doesn't really lend itself to campaign play.

This character is for the scenario 'Beneath the Full Moon', in which a group of students on a rafting trip in the Grand Canyon are menaced by a werewolf. Yikes.

Te stats below therefore take the form of a series of questions and answers.

== Character Stats ==
''Unlike most philosophy majors, you chose your major for practical reasons. How do you intend to use your degree outside of academia?''<br>

My study of philosophers of the Classical world will really help me get a job after graduation as a travel guide in Greece and Italy. Anyone can spout history, but this stuff will put me a cut above any other tour guide. Eventually I want to start my own company, for the intellectually inclined traveller.

''Why did you choose to join, and live in, a Greek house?''<br>
My best friend, Daniel Janson, joined and I wanted to be with him. We grew up together and we've been best friends since I was like, five.

''While your Greek experience has been almost entirely positive, one initiation rite crossed the line into hazing. How does it still haunt you?''<br>
One of the guys was touching me in a creepy way when the others weren't looking. I'm not gay or anything, and I don't think he was but it made me feel pretty bad.

''Why did you decide to do an adventure camping trip instead of the usual Spring Break beach party?''<br>
Last year I wasn't dating anyone. this year I'm sort of seeing this girl, Amy Lyttleton. She was supposed to come on this too, but she broke her wrist playing hockey.

''What is your filth threshold? How do you respond when things aren't clean enough for you?''<br>
I'm pretty good with dirt. I can't stand human waste though. I really freak out with anything like that and can't relax until I'm clean.

''How did your first pet die?''<br>
When I was at school, they sent her off to be put down. They didn't even tell me, they just did it. I'd do anything just to be able to say goodbye to her. She was a great dog.

''Now that your guide is dead, why do you expect the others will look to you as leader?''<br>
I went to military school for a year. It was okay, not great, but it taught me a bit of self confidence.

''How did you get that scar?''<br>
That's my appendix scar. It was really scary. I nearly died. That's why I had to leave the military school. Mom home tutored me for five months. That was a great time.

''Other than the events of last night, what was the most suprising part of this trip so far?''<br>
You know, I thought I would really miss Amy, but I'm glad she's not here. It's made me wonder if we should keep going out when I get back. We get on okay, but she's always getting me to do her stuff, and she's not into the things I like. I'll see how we get on when I get back home.

''How did you cheat on your last botany mid-term?''<br>
I wrote a whole bunch of the answers on a piece of paper and taped it under the desk before the exam. I really needed the help. I'm not so good on the sciences.

''Part of this trip is harder for you because of what phobia?''<br>
Man, I hate snakes. Like Indiana Jones, right? Snakes are scary. Nobody mentioned snakes when I signed on for this trip. I guess they like being near the water.

''What childhood hero has let you down?''<br>
Mr Jansen. Daniel's dad. He was the coolest guy, and he used to take us both out fishing and stuff. Turns out he had been cheating on his taxes for years. Daniel and his mom had to move out of the house. Mr Jansen is in jail now, but he should be out in a year. All the time I thought the Jansen's were the coolest but I gues it was all a big sham.

''What is your name?''<br>
Kenneth Gaear Sorenson, but everyone calls me Ken.

== Character Description ==

Ken is just an ordinary kid who has had some good times, some tough times, and has some small dreams he's going to chase. He's in for a tough few days.

== Commentary ==
Dread characters are a lot of fun! I really feel like I know a lot about Ken, more than I would other characters. This is a good method of character creation, except for two things. firstly, the question shave to be prepared by the GM and can be leading. Secondly, thr answers don't really translate into stats very well. To clarify, by stats I mean actionable traits. It's not really clear how these answers come out through play.

[[Category:Character|Karen Cauling]]

A character for ''NWoD: Core'', created by Thanatos02. <br>

All of my characters follow the same basic rules, as noted here, though I don't expect anybody else to follow them. All of the characters are starting characters as outlined in the books. In generic books where a setting is assumed, I build a character that would fit in the setting. Where no setting is assumed, I build towards the contemporary era as the setting allows. In games that have no set point values or start character generation rules, I'll list specific guidelines built towards my assumptions of a 'beginning' or starting character.

My rules regarding fat-splats or series of games that utilize the same core mechanics is that when rules create suitably diverging types of characters, I'll construct one per setting I own. (For example, using Exalted, Dragon-Blooded and Solars are sufficiently different. In OMage, Order of Hermes and a Hollow One are not sufficiently different. In games with classes, different classes are not enough. They must essentially be different characters. Other people's opinions on what are different 'enough' really arn't my area of expertise. I build in good faith.)

In any event, should the character posted not be according to the assumed structure of the Challenge Wiki, it '''will''' be alter shortly, and was probably the result of a time crunch. Thanks! I hope you have as much fun with this as I did. ^_^

== Campaign ==

NWoD Core utilizes mortals as primary protagonists, however, I considered the existences of splats such as '''Armory''' and '''Second Sight''' to be valid splats in the creation of a character (as Merits don't overwrite character templates like supernatural templates do). Karen Cauling should be allowable as a standard mortal in any starting NWoD mortal game, essentially.
== Character Description ==
Once I started, I found it easiest to simply go ahead with a kind of 'Mythos Investigator' concept; that is, a normal character with an easy in to the supernatural. Karen, then, makes a decent go-fer, researcher, and in games on the streets or using computers she'd really shine. <br>
I expect she'd make a decent start on a PC or a great low-level NPC Ally or Contact for people running any NWoD game. She's also well set-up for Low Magic, or perhaps psychic powers. <br>

== Commentary ==
When I saw the rules for beginning PC creation in NWoD, I have to admit I kind of balked. Without adding any extra XP, characters are ''really'' beginning characters. But then again, that was the point. I discovered that if I placed the concepts as real beginners, I had no problem at all making a pretty decent character. Especially since equipment offers some fairly hard bonuses for most cursory work. No problem at all.

A character for ''Violence RPG'', created by Thanatos02.

== Campaign ==

Are you kidding? But seriously, I'm about as likely to run or play a game of ''Violence RPG'' as I am to play, I dunno... something I'm not likely to play. >.> But honestly, for a parody that looks like it was slapped together in about 15 minutes, it looks surprisingly playable so I'm not sure what bothers me more, that someone might play it, or that when they decided to, they'd be able to do it without a whole lotta effort. <br>

At least it's no F.A.T.A.L. Historically accurate, my ass. <br>
Oh, and 'Joe' here got written up by the numbers. No problems. <br>
There's not much to do in ''Violence'' but kill shit, and Joseph here isn't really amazing at it, but he might shoot someone if he needed to. The odds arn't bad, anyhow, compared to what they could be, and there's not much to tweak in that direction. The skills make him look like he used to be a yuppie before he lost it all and snapped. 18's in Cooking and Torture, and a nod to Reservoir Dogs with a 15 in 70's rock.
Maybe I should have given him a razor blade.

Surprisingly like making a Call of Cthulu character, and probably about as survivable or useful. Stats like D&D, skills like CoC, and equipment means about as much. It was a parody of rules and game systems of the past, but if it wasn't for the scathing prose in the manuscript, you really wouldn't be able to tell.

== Character Description ==
Born John Angler, the magus now called Volerus does not look like the sort one thinks of as a wizard. He spends much of his time at his forge, and as a result he is muscular and tanned, quite the opposite of the archetypal aged bookworm. The forge also seems to have molded his personality quite a bit, for Volerus is brash and headstrong, and has little reluctance to fight when the situation calls for it. Nevertheless, he has a good head for the magical arts, especially the enchantment of the items he forges. His greatest ambition is to one day create a weapon of legendary power, something on the order of Arthur's Excalibur.

== Commentary ==
Experienced AM players may notice that Volerus' stats seem pretty high. This is because, instead of the usual point-buy, I used the optional die-rolling system for generating his stats. There's nothing else unusual here. Overall this character took a decent bit of work to put together; not as much as, say, GURPS, but picking out formula spells can take a while when there aren't too many in the book that seem to fit closely with my character concept (if I were to actually play this character, I would probably create at least one or two of my own formula spells to replace some of the ones on my list, but for purposes of this challenge I wanted to stick with what was in the book).

Also, for those who don't have it, I will take this time to point out that AM4 is available for free at [http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=AG0204 e23].

I've chosen to roll up a character with just the 'Characters and Combat' rules - no high Guard or Mercenary or nothin'.
The Traveller Adventure. A classic long term campaign. Except this guy is useless at anything spaceship related. He can fight with a gun and fight with a knife. Maybe he's security. Maybe he's just Jayne Cobb, from firefly, retconned back to the Imperium.
== Character Description ==

Jedda (pronounced JETH-a) was a kid with big dreams. Growing up in a rough and ready backwater he dreamed of the gleaming uniforms and consoles of the Imperial Navy. He was rejected for officer's training. He just couldn't hide that accent and his rough edges. He was drafted anyway, and worked in the holds and gunnery bays of the Space Cruisers. But failing at his officer's exam by being bumped by some Baron's son was too much for him. he buried his anger for a while, but eventually complained. He got a Travellers membership and an honourable discharge as part of the deal to keep it quiet. Now disillusioned, he is on Aramis looking for paying work, and maybe a chance to see the subsector. They say that ship the March Harrier is taking on crew. maybe they need some hired muscle.

== Commentary ==

I love Traveller, but I have to say I am sad to see this young guy with no life skills get thrown into the world. He didn't last long in the service and I found it really frustrating at how few skills you get in basic Traveller. I think I prefer Megatraveller, but then that's a whole different character.

== Campaign ==

This is a critical section for Prime Time Adventures (PTA) characters. Every character exists in the series and the series is a character in tself, in a sense. So this campaign is called 'Gypsy Angels'. It is a game based loosely on the campaign Transhuman space, but sans Transhumanism. It is the future, and space travel is common. so common in fact, that there are groups of people and communes floating all throughout the Solar system in small ships. The game centres around the Gypsy family, a family spaceship group . A small family who travel in a small spaceship, taking on off jobs, meeting odd people, and having adventures. The campaign centres around Jupiter, and th asteroid belt. From here, Mars seems like a metropolitan centre. The family is growing up, and there are other strains. It is harder to find work, and there are big corporations trying to squeeze out the small operators.

Edge: Hotshot Pilot
Jared is a good intuitive pilot. He has been flying since before he could walk. He loves ships and there's little he can't do.

Edge: Free Space Activist
Jared is involved in the free space movement. His involvement so far is only helping with web sites, organising rallies. But he could get drawn deeper into some of their more suspect activities. his involvement has taught him a lot about the more cynical side of the system, and the darker side of the way corporations work.

Connections: Ward. Ward is Jard's AI. He was a babysitter and educator originally, but he has evolved and learned along with Jared. Jared sometimes chafes when Ward forgets Jared's nearly an adult but they have been lifelong friends.

Connections: Thiago Santiago. A Spanish engineer apprentice on Ceres base, Thiago was friends with Jared during school face week (when cyber connected classes actually meet up). Thiago lives at the hub of the outer rim, and knows a lot fowhat's going on.

Connections: Gretchen Scott. Top student and beautiful to boot, Gretchen is an entrepreneur in her spare time, but mostly she travels with her family just like Jared. She knows and likes Jared, and if he could prove himself and overcome his shyness maybe he could get somewhere with her.

Nemesis: Nate Rubin. Nate is the son of a powerful executive in the Transrock corporation, who has always used his wealth and snide self confidence to put Jared down. He is also a competitor for Gretchen's affections. He uses his trust fund and father's influence to exploit people and make more money, and to create business deals with Gretchen. He's put the Gypsy's out of business if he could.

== Character Description ==

Jared is a young man who has to learn his own true worth over tie, and maybe win the girl, or realise he doesn't need her to feel complete. He peaks near the series climax, so we suspect his issue is closely linked to the metaplot. without knowing the rest of his family (the other characters) we can't fully round him out.

== Commentary ==

PTA is very cool. Like Dread, it encourages creativity, but it is less specific and enables me to create a character of my own devising. This is a fun process, and I can imagine collaboratively it is even more fun.

James is a killer, plain and simple. Fortunately for humanity, he was made so by the Texan Army rather than by the streets or his own boredom, so all killing so far has been limited to hostile aliens. But after one battle too many James finally took a hit. Now fully recovered, he's out of the Army with an honorable discharge, and looking for something new to keep him and his trigger finger busy.
== Commentary ==

2300 is a game I've never played and probably never will, but I have a copy so I had to make the character sooner or later. Going through this was a huge '80s throwback, which is kind of a history lesson for me considering I didn't start roleplaying until 1992. But at least the character creation rules aren't as crunchy as the rules on explosives (which, if I remember correctly, involve numerous decimals and some simplified physics equations).

Description: (normally this goes up here on the character sheet, but for consistency's sake I'll keep it in the next section)<br>
Cliches: Secret Agent (3), Ladies' Man (3), High-Class Gentleman (2), Athlete (2)<br>
== Character Description ==
== Commentary ==

Ah, the magic of Risus. All the thought that went into making this character took about two minutes, most of which was spent debating point distribution with myself. This one is my representative for what is clearly the lightest game I have, and makes a nice contrast to the much crunchier ones I did beforehand.

==Campaign==

George is designed as a backup character for just about any party. He's probably not going to be as good as your more specialized characters but he has a nice mix of abilities that make him useful in a wide array of situations. It's assumed that he never went to college, instead going into construction right after high school. This also gives a convenient "in character" explanation for why he's not working certain periods of time as construction can be very on and off about work availability. He's an okay shot and pretty good in hand to hand which combined with his physical stats probably means he'll serve as a brawler against human foes(against the Supernatural he'd better run. He's no match for a werewolf or vampire obviously). His job, allies, and contacts(all assumed to be in the construction field) means he can get some hard to acquire equipment when needed. He's also good at finding out stuff such as construction permits, who built building X, it's factual past history(as opposed to the supernatural), etc. I see George as a straight forward nice guy who perhaps drinks a bit too much after seeing one weird thing too many at a previous construction site. Hence the low manipulation score and the virtue and vice that he has. You can easily tweak his stats and virtues and vices if you want the same rough skill set but with a different personality.
==Character Description==

George Smith never did like school. While his friends went on to college he immediately went to work in the field after graduating from high school. It wasn't that he was stupid. He just didn't enjoy the book learning all that much. Unfortunately one night he saw....something on a construction site he was working at one evening. He thought it was his imagination. Until he saw it again the next night. And again the night after that. He didn't see it the fourth night. Just the bodies of two fellow workers, mauled by what apparently were savage dogs.

==Commentary==

Like I said before, George is designed to fit into just about any campaign involving mortals. Thus his back story and stat and skill set try to make him useful in a wide array of situations without too much modification. He's useful in a combat oriented party. He has use for investigative groups. He can even help out your modern dungeon explorers with his knowledge of construction. If nothing else, his drive skill means that when it's time to get away from whatever evil is chasing you he's a good choice for behind the wheel.

Billy John Miller grew up in rural Vermont, children of itinerant farm labourers. He was an everage child, remarkable in that he survived his 5 dead sisters and brothers. Miller worked hard as a farm labourer himself, and with a small present from his parents, has headed west to make his fortune.

Gentleman Jack has earned his nickname from the contrast between his rough demeanour and the fancy derby he proudly sports.

Jack's idea of success is to run and own a saloon. His sloppy habits and the fact he only has 50 cents to his name will be obstacles to this goal.

== Commentary ==
I like lifepath sysems, where you roll a lot of random elements and have to pull them together into a single story. Kenzerco have made a great job of taking all the good bits of Hackmaster and squeezing them into a western setting.

== Character Description ==

Garin was a foundling, an infant left on the steps of a monastery dedicated to St. Cuthbert. He was healthy, and the cradle and wrappings left with him were of fine quality; the monks were initially confused why an apparently well-to-do family would abandon their child in such a fashion. All too soon, however, the answer became clear. Whenever the baby became angry, bad luck followed the target of his rage; valuable items broke, hidden secrets were revealed, or accidents - sometimes injurious - happened without warning. Once the boy's talent was uncovered, the monks debated amongst themselves what action to take, until one elder stood up and said, "The boy is a weapon, to be wielded either by the fiends... or the faithful. If taught, he may yet become a hammer with which to smite the wicked. Let us not discard the mace that Blessed Cuthbert has placed in our hands."

And so Garin was raised to become a servant of the Law, a servant of Retribution. The monks taught him how to control his powers of misfortune, but also impressed upon him the terrible import of never using them save against those who have earned the wrath of the Law. Garin took these lessons to heart, and the young man who stepped into the temple on his 17th birthday to be anointed a Knight of the Cudgel now sees himself as an incarnation of the Law.

The Law is final.
The Law is supreme.
The Law may be merciful, where mercy serves the cause of justice; where no mercy is given, however, the Law offers only complete annihilation.

Those who face him in battle see at first only a well-trained fighting man, and that is cause enough for concern. When they look into his eyes, however, they see the burning flame of zeal that can never be extinguished...

...and they know fear.

== Commentary ==

I don't really know what to say about <b>D&D</b> that isn't obvious. I've come, much to my astonishment, to enjoy the game. It's clear, to me at least, that 3.5 edition is better than 3rd Edition. My mechanical issues are largely derived from the 1d20 roll; if you want to get the skinny on that, go read my comments on <b>Cinematic Unisystem</b> here: http://fallingtearpoet.livejournal.com/23613.html. Character creation is a minigame all its own that I find extremely entertaining. Some recent releases, including <b>Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords</b>, have really increased my interest in the system overall.

I used the "elite array" character creation for this character - treat the ability scores as if you had rolled 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. I will be using random rolling for my next character, also <b>D&D 3.5</b>, but set in the Eberron campaign setting. Money was also taken at the "default" 150 gp for a fighter-type character. Since <b>D&D 3.5</b>'s "default" setting, such as it is, is that of the Greyhawk universe, this character makes reference to the Greyhawk pantheon. One assumes it would not be too difficult to alter that, if need be.

(creation time: 20 minutes - but I cheated by using this: http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm.)

== Campaign ==

Gargleblax is a treasure hunter, so obviously any campaign he's in will spend at least some time focusing on hunting for ancient treasure on distant planets. Probably also fighting the foot soldiers of evil totalitarian space empires with funny accents (parse that sentence any way you like).
Acrobatics 1<br>

== Character Description ==

Gargleblax Smith (Gargly to his friends) is about 6 feet tall and covered in short, stubbly fur. His hobbies include uncovering ancient treasures, not getting killed by the natives of whatever planet he's on that day, punching minions of evil in the face, and armchair sociology. Though not phobic, per se, he very much dislikes radioactive scorpions.

== Commentary ==

Considering that In Spaaace! borders on freeform, creating a character is pretty simple mechanics-wise. Considering that I'm ripping off a certain well-known fictional character anyway, I feel like I should have been able to take a disad point for the radioactive scorpions, but the game doesn't allow that. I don't know, maybe it wouldn't be balanced, or maybe the author just felt like that would be pushing too much into "rules" and "bookkeeping" and all that nonsense.

A character for ''Exalted Solars 1st Ed.'', created by Thanatos02.

== Campaign ==
This is a character for your bog-standard Exalted game, with no particularly unusual qualities. I wasn't able to find any notes about buying spells at character creation, but because they're treated the same as Charms are after creation, I let myself buy one (Demon of the 1st Circle) as if it were a favored Charm (due to Occult being favored). There's no Manse or hearthstones, but equipment might be a bit out of line for some Storytellers.
On the other hand, a Resources 3 character with 5 dots in Craft with a double specialization can probably whip something up. I did set her up with orichalcum scalpels, but that's more for flavor then anything.

My concept was of a character who, until she joins a circle or decides to do something epic, mostly worries about new inventions and creations. While this would eventually create game hooks, it's also easy to have an NPC who just makes things with cool shit PCs find (should they be lacking a crafting-type Exalt). Demons fetch materials, work bellows, and help defend from misguided attacks, and her crafting ally takes care of things she isn't required for. (I assume they were partners, lovers, or friends. He's heroic, and I haven't decided if he's more craft-y or more savant-y.)
- Bolt-Cutter is an over-sized but perfectly balanced wrench-head and multi-tool which functions as a Artifact Hammer. This Orichalcum artifact hammer utilizes the same bonuses typically applied to a 2-dot Daiklave artifact sword, but added to the Hammer weapon instead. <br>
- An Exalt attuned to Bolt-Cutter may spend 5 motes of essence to double his or her successes against inanimate objects such as doors, walls, or machines for one attack. This stacks with Shattering Grasp only insofar as that the Exalt may spend 5 motes of Essence to be considered unarmed while using Bolt-Cutter while using that Charm. <br>
- While Bolt-Cutter is attuned, the Exalt is considered to have a minimally-stocked workshop of tools, allowing him or her to better work in the field. <br>
Chain Shirt: 3L/1B, -0 Penalty, 1 Fatigue <br>
Excellent Knife (Scalpal): +4 Speed, +1 Acc, +1L Dmg, -1 Def <br>

Heroic Mortal Craftsman Assistant (Ally *) <br>
== Character Description ==
Ganamede represents two different design principles that I mostly see represented on RPG.net's discussions about Exalted. Because my mechanical skills are all second-hand (I picked up most of what I know by skimming mechanical information posted liberally on the boards), what I hear most often is the importance of reflexive defensive charms to stay alive and how easy and powerful it is to be able to hyper-focus. Because of Exalted's general skew towards a more potent character, I found I was easily able to max out Ganamede's mundane crafting and lore capabilities and still be able to rely on a variety of potent defensive charms.

Still, I might have over-done it. I'd have to re-look to see how redundant Dodge and Melee defense Charms are, to discover if I'd be better off buying up the chain on either one, or split the difference and retain Dodge while being more offensive with Melee. (Or if I should just buy up Crafts Charms or a few more spells.)

Regardless of my mechanical flubs, this wouldn't be a character I'd be embarrassed to take to a Solar campaign. She can function in a variety of roles (primarily so she doesn't slow down her Circle too much) and her power can only go up once those Artifact points are spent. Why they arn't is primarily a subject of the next section.

== Commentary ==
Exalted 1st Ed. never seemed to know whether it was a game of fluff or a game of immaculate crunch, and it shows. Charms are a granular and extensive part of the system, spells are in list form, and equipment has a bevy of associated numbers to compute, but when it comes to Artifacts (like OMage's Wonders), the rules are maddeningly elusive.

What does a three-dot artifact do? How is it different from a two-dot artifact? When dealing with Artifacts, do the scale like Resources, where 5 dots might mean a nearly unending stream of 1-dot trinkets? The answers are available, but they're scattered and difficult to find. Even when they do make themselves clearer, they're still pretty vague. Which is why I'll define those dots, but at a later time.

Frankly, that's not the only issue I've got. Like D&D, Charms are huge in number and important to game play. Unlike in D&D, Charms are the majority of ones powerset, which means that poorly chosen Charms will hurt you more then poorly chosen Feats ever would. When playing Exalted, it's important to note that your character is primarily defined by Essence totals and Charm selection, plus whatever limits are encoded into the characters by the setting conceits.

I love Exalted, but it's a high-maintenance mistress. There are tricks to making it easier, but a lot of critical data is actually missing from the books.
