== Background ==
The man now known as Láeg does not speak much of his early life. "I was caught between the Orange and the Green. A lad born to a mix-up like that goes looking for trouble, or trouble goes looking for him. And there's lots of Trouble to be found in old Ulster these days." Further enquires are discouraged. Strongly.

He is similarly tight lipped about the events that brought him to America, saying only that he needed to get away so badly he took ship with the Devil himself, and when he got free he washed up in New York. From there, well, a proud son of the Emerald Isle can always find friends in New York, especially one who's seen his share of Trouble and learned the tricks of the trade. If that young man happens to be a skilled driver who's hell in a fight and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, than that young man will probably make ''lots'' of friends. And just maybe, one of those friends will be a big man down from Boston on business who likes the young man's style, invites him to come be his driver. And if that big man happens to have a daughter, and she and the young man hit it off, as young folk do, well, some buggers just have all the luck, don't they?

That's the story as Sleepers of Láeg's acquaintance know it. It's not ''completely'' divorced from the truth. Láeg doesn't remember exactly how he got from Ireland to America - he was completely caught up in his Awakening by the time he stepped on the boat that for all he knows he really did sail across the burning sea of Pandemonium in an iron boat captained by the Devil and crewed by the damned. Regardless of how, he ended up in New York, where he somehow managed to go unnoticed by any of his fellow Awakened for nearly a year. A Mastigos' talents, even untrained, are no easy thing to live with, and Láeg was in a slow spiral of self-destruction. Fortunately, business brought the Adamant Sage Cú Chulainn to New York, and upon meeting Láeg while catching up with old friends, he recognized the young man for what he was.

The start of Láeg's apprenticeship was rather rocky and even after that it was rather hard work, but Láeg knows full well just how much he owes the older man. Taking the name of Cú Chulainn's faithful charioteer and companion on completion of his apprenticeship was a very deliberate statement, and one he does not intend to regret. Láeg has had relatively few dealings with the other Awakened of Boston - Cú Chulainn was (and technically still is) a Solitaire, and Láeg's work shoring up the Arrow's influence among the Irish communities of Boston only rarely brought him into contact with other Mages. There was, however, one sole, shining exception to this isolation. Cú Chulainn's daughter, a medical student and recently Awakened Thyrus who took the Shadow Name of Maev. It is perhaps unsurprising that the two youngsters, reeling and without peers in the strange new world they found themselves, would strike up a deep connection. Things between them were almost at the point where lasting promises would be made when the war, and the OSS's recruitment efforts intervened.

The OSS didn't come looking for Láeg specifically. Rather, they had managed to acquire some form of leverage over Boston's Hierarch, and the man pointed them at Cú Chulainn to save his own skin. Originally Cú Chulainn had no intention of loaning out any of his subordinates to the government to pay another man's debts, but the Guardians of the Veil got involved, calling in favours and otherwise applying pressure to get someone sent - doubtless wishing to embed a Mage in the OSS's operations for their own reasons. Láeg volunteered to be that Mage, knowing that otherwise Cú Chulainn would go himself rather than consign one of his subordinates to the morass the OSS's proposed operation would prove to be.

Láeg's not exactly happy to be working for the Man, even the American Man, but the promise of some good fights and interesting challenges makes up for most of it. For the rest, well, annoying his would-be 'handler' from the Guardians, and tweaking his nominal superiors noses when they get to whiney is enough to be getting on with.
His hair and eyes are dark, and he wears his spiky hair in a short, low ponytail. By reading the ripples conflict creates in the world, the Hound is able to predict the effects a violent encounter will have. By considering a fight they are shortly to be involved in, they can get a sense of its likely consequences for them. By studying a strategy, they get a sense of the likely results of its implementation. By considering a defeated foe, they get a sense of the consequences of killing or sparing them. In all cases, the impression is broad and vague, though the Hound always knows if it bodes good or ill. (You will gain great glory but suffer great harm, a great host will fall into disarray, you will meet again on a field of battle, etc.)

'''Optional:''' Space 1
When in battle, the Hound may pulse their senses outwards, briefly perceiving all about them without obstruction, as the spell 'The Outward and Inward Eye' (Core pg174).

== Background ==
The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

== Appearance ==
[[File:Láeg.jpg]]

Láeg is a tall, youngish man with an intimidating cast to his sharp features. His nose has been broken repeatedly, and he has a number of small scars across his face and body. His hair and eyes are dark, and he wears his spiky hair in a short, low ponytail. He has a number of small tattoos, mostly bands of Celtic knot work with High Speech runes worked into them.

== Background ==
The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

== Background ==
The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

== Appearance ==
[[File:Láeg.jpg]]
Láeg is a tall, youngish man with an intimidating cast to his sharp features. His nose has been broken repeatedly, and he has a number of small scars across his face and body.

His hair and eyes are dark, and he wares his spiky hair in a short, low ponytail. He has a number of small tattoos, mostly bands of Celtic knot work with High Speech runes worked into them.

== Background ==
The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

== Background ==
The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

The man now known as does not speak much of his early life.

8: Single Greatest Fear?

That Inquisition-like activities will spread over Theah in response to things like guns and bombs.

To Montaigne, and to the Rilasciare

Brilliant, but sullen.

16: Is she a gentle?
Codes of conduct are chains used to contort a person’s actions to the will of those in power.

She doesn’t have an opinion one way or the other regarding the “unblooded” sorceries, but Porte and Sorte use usually serves to pinpoint “the problem” and solve it.

20: Advice?

Weapons might be an effective way to effect change, but you’ve gotta be prepared to live with the natural conclusion of these efforts.

STORY

A trail from the assassination attempt on the Crown Prince leads to Pourisse. The assassin was killed in the attempt, but carried a token of a purple dagger, indicating he is a member of a small guild of assassins reputedly based in Pourisse. Jurgis' goal is to find the Guild and learn who contracted the assassin.

=20 Questions=
1) Sarmatian Commonwealth, from eastern Curonia.
2) Jurgis is at the average 5'6 height, pale and black-haired like most other Curonians, and wears practical trousers and heavy boots, but as part of his cover, wears the trademark long crimson coat and black sash of Sarmatism.
3) Jurgis emphasizes a tad of Curonian accent, again to keep up his cover image.
4) Jurgis' goal first and foremost, is to help make a greater Commonwealth, bringing it out of the paralysis and into the nation it could be.
5) Jurgis is a capable swordsman and a jack of various trades. But this means he's a master of none. Also, while he's trained to use his words as much as weapons, thick intricacies of etiquette do annoy and wear him down.
6) Jurgis enjoys his native cusines, but extremely spicy or rich foods upset his stomach.
7) Jurgis is used to planning out his actions, given the complexity and consequences of his work.
8) Jurgis fears a few things - beneath his certainty that scheming nobles cannot undo the work Golden Liberty, he still fears the prospect. And more than anything, from a young age, he fears the dievas. He knows what happened to his father.
9) What he wants: the legacy of a glorious future for the Commonwealth.
10) Sarmatia has been freed from the librum veto and the blind paralysis of the Sejm, but its future must be secured for certain.
11) Beneath the surface, Jurgis has contempt for the vain, indolent wastrel Montainge nobles and their feckless Le Empereur.
12) Jurgis' direct loyalty remains to his longtime master, the man who he thinks can save the Commonwealth, the only one who should rule, Stanislaw II.
13) Jurgis hasn't had time for love or marriage prospects.
14) The Opalinskis have been in the service of the royal line for decades. Jurgis' father disappeared after a frightening encounter with a disguised dievas, one Jurgis witnessed and knows his father is long gone.
15) Mother knows he was always serious and focused. There wasn't much true levity and humor from him after her husband was taken.
16) No. Jurgis is an Eastern Hero - though he believes in Golden Liberty, he is prepared to take the murky actions that will be needed to counter the work of enemies.
17) Jurgis is a syncretic Vaticine and native beliefs. He loathes the Inquisition however, and Cardinal Verdugo. One of the things he skeptically asks (but never in public or to someone less than trusted) "If this is the time of the Fourth Prophet, where is he? Does Verdugo think he's the Fourth?"
18) Jurgis is a member of the Duelist's Guild, more secretly he is also a member of Los Vagabundos. His and their beliefs and goals align greatly.
19) Despite the Church's prohibition, Jurgis is too pragmatic to overlook working with sorcerers if necessary.
20) Don't get complacent, Jurgis. This is going to be a wild ride.

=20 Questions=

1) Savino Villanova was born and raised in Vodacce, on the island of Diona.
2) Tall, dark, and handsome. Well, more olive skinned than dark, black hair tied back, waxed mustaches and beard. He dresses in the blacks and purples fashionable in Vodacce; generally, he looks exactly like the young spare son of a Merchant Prince offshoot, which he is.
3) He has a tendency to drop words of Vodacce into casual conversation, and is fond of sweeping, dramatic gestures.
4) Ambition. He's a climber, looking for wealth, status, and power. He's read his Scaroveche, although the truth is that he's not actually ruthless enough to embody its principles.
5) The very butcher of a silk button, a duelist, a duelist, a gentleman of the very first house of the first and second cause. He can plot and he can fight, but in the heat of the moment, he tends to act first and plan around the consequences later.
6) Savino loves, loves, loves the opera. He hates beer and ale, always taking wine in preference.
7) Savino, again, is a man who tries to lay out subtle plots despite his hot tempers. He is quick to call for a duel in response to a real or imagined slight. He's also been seen to openly weep during opera.
8) A certain amount of healthy paranoia is a survival trait in Vodacce, but in Savino's case, he becomes distinctly uncomfortable at the prospect of being alone. Give him revels, courts, even a fight where he knows who and where his enemies are. Just spare him the silence.
9) What does he want? Everything. Being the youngest son of a lesser offshoot of one of Thea's most powerful noble houses puts him above the vast majority of the population, but perpetually aware of how many people are still above him.
10) Savino is well aware of Vodacce's nature of treachery and the costs of the families' perpetual fighting, but he still, truly and entirely, loves his nation.
11) The Calligari and Villanova family have been feuding for decades. Savino regards them and their servants with contempt. (Perhaps he killed a Calligari in a duel, as one more reason to spend time out of the country?)
12) Loyalty to the Villanova family is a tricky prospect. He's a Hero obligated to the wishes of one of Thea's most infamous Villains, and fighting between the family is very nearly as bitter as between them and the family's enemy. Savino's first loyalty is still to the ideal of his family, the name and legacy, even while his siblings plot fratricide for their father's position.
13) Savino is not a stranger to affairs in court or liaisons with the peasantry, but is not currently romantically entangled, and as the youngest son, his family has yet to search for a suitable match.
14) Savino has three legitimate brothers, three recognized bastard brothers, and one sister. His father has spent his life pitting them in competition with one another over every piece of recognition or acknowledgement, partially to prepare them for life as nobles of Vodacce, largely to prevent any of them from creating an alliance against him.
15) Savino's father would regard him well for his skills, but ultimately, not likely to be the one to inherit his position and estates. Too enamored of foolish ideals to be the one to thrive.
His mother would regard him as her best success in raising a son better than the family she was married into.
16) Savino is no gentle, nor does he pretend to be one. He admires those who are, in truth, but Vodacce is a hard place for high ideals.
17) Despite the Vaticine Church's issues with his family, Savino is publicly and devoutly an adherent. He's rarely seen without an elaborate golden cross on a chain around his neck. This does not deter him from making deals with or use of sorcery, however, or particularly deter him from sin--the hypocrisy being one his country has long embraced.
18) Savino is a member of the Duelist's Guild, which is probably wise on his part.
19) Again, Savino has little issue with praying at a church that condemns sorcery, and then mingling freely with sorcerers outside the doors. With a beloved mother and sister who pull the strings of fate, he can hardly do otherwise.
20) I would advise Savino to take the advantages he's been given and work on making himself happy and comfortable, rather than looking enviously at every step above him and taking risks to climb them. He would not listen.

== Background ==

Yumi’s family has been the caretakers of their shrine since its creation, long before the town was built, or so everyone says. Despite its age the shrine has never been greatly popular, possibly because even now it is a short way out of the town proper and the climb up the hill to reach the base of the steps is steep, to say nothing of the steps themselves. These days the shrine gets very few visitors and only her businessman father’s skillful management of the land and properties the family own in town ensures there is enough money to maintain the full shrine properly, especially as her grandfather prefers not to charge high rents.

Yumi is the middle child of five, with an older brother and sister, 18 year old twins, and a younger brother and sister, 8 year old twins. Yumi is the only one of her siblings to live at the shrine with her grandparents, her mother having moved to join her father in the city where he worked before the younger twins were born and her older siblings having joined them when they turned 14. Her father is an American businessman who married her mother and took the Miyamoto family name. Both her grandparents are still healthy and spend most of their time looking after the shrine or volunteering in town. Although she sometimes feels rejected by the distance from the rest of her family she loves the shrine and her grandparents deeply and has no real desire to leave. Her grandparents have taught her a great deal about Shinto and various traditional arts and she practices kyudo with them regularly.

Yumi performs well at school and has a few friends there, though none particularly close. Her mildly foreign appearance, the relative isolation of her home and the slight remove of her family’s age and status combine to isolate her somewhat from her classmates. She is only infrequently targeted by bullies directly but she often sees the people around her being bullied and dearly wishes she had the courage to stand up and stop them. She has a natural talent for singing and when focusing on doing so exhibits great personal presence. Although she has received a lot of encouragement from her teachers and grandparents to do so she has never been able to get up the courage to perform on stage until recently, when she has finally been persuaded to sign up to sing in an upcoming talent show.

Recently she has begun to dream strange dreams, of noble heroes facing twisted monsters, of passionate flames and a powerful queen and of a voice of heartbreaking beauty singing of sorrow, victory and hope.
Her hair falls freely to below her waist and has shimmering highlights that make it look like flames as she moves. Her Regalia is a spandex looking deep gold tank top and shorts under a mesh bodysuit of lighter golds and reds. The bodysuit reaches from neck to toe with a choker, archer’s gloves and arm guards, plus knee high, heelless boots over it, all made of dark red, leather like material. At the waist shimmering, semi-transparent fabric forms a short skirt that glints like fire when it catches the light.
She carries a tall, unstrung bow of golden wood, the manifestation of her Levinbolt charm. When she loads it a bowstring of fire forms and golden magatama appear on a string wrapped around the glove of her bow hand, one for each shot. The light from Light the Way comes from her hair, choker, gloves and skirt. Fire on the Mountain creates a high quality earpiece/microphone headset, normally worn over her left ear.
== Background ==
