== Background ==
Growing up in the slums of the capital of Hochland was none too good. Life in the surrounding countryside is good enough, but when a city rat catcher has four children to feed then there isn't much to go round. So when Otto Rottengud was old enough he started as a trader's mate, hawling, rowing, driving. The money was enough to see him better off, but was never going to get his siblings a better life.

So it was that he stashed a crate of Kislevite Vodka under his master's cart on one trip across the border. Without the tax paid, he made a few shillings extra. Next trip it was a couple of crates. A year later and he'd left his master, acquired his own cart and horse and was running the darker routes across the border.

A couple of years ago, when Altdorf introduced it's ill conceived and short-lived "feather tax" that all but crippled the Fletchers' Guild, Otto got to know [[Johann Holder]] quite well. Since then, a few gemstones with missing import notes have gone his way and contact with the appropriate trade guilds for Otto's merchandise has been made by the bowyer.

About that time, his younger brother, Gustav came with him and now has a respectable job as cook at the Fort Gravgart outside of Altdorf. And last year he set his elder sister, Hild, up with some accommodation in the city - she's a good looker and soon got herself afianced to a respectable city burgher and was married last month. The youngest of the family, Ilsa, still lives with their father though. For now though Otto is between jobs and is looking to get enough money to bring his sister to the capital.

The last few months, however, the roadwardens have been tight on the usual routes. So Otto sits in the tavern, handing the barman his last pennies, ordering one more beer than he can actually afford and crossing his fingers in silent prayer.

Easy Money is a PBP WHFRP game being run by Phantom Grunweasel.

A couple of years ago, when Altdorf introduced it's ill conceived and short-lived "feather tax" that all but crippled the Fletchers' Guild, Otto got to know [[Johann Holder]] quite well. Since then, a few gemstones with missing import notes have gone his way and contact with the appropriate trade guilds for Otto's merchandise has been made by the bowyer.

About that time, his younger brother, Gustav came with him and now has a respectable job as cook at the Fort Gravgart outside of Altdorf. And last year he set his elder sister, Hild, up with some accommodation in the city - she's a good looker and soon got herself afianced to a respectable city burgher and was married last month. The youngest of the family, Ilsa, still lives with their father though. For now though Otto is between jobs and is looking to get enough money to bring his sister to the capital.

The last few months, however, the roadwardens have been tight on the usual routes. So Otto sits in the tavern, handing the barman his last pennies, ordering one more beer than he can actually afford and crossing his fingers in silent prayer.

Hand of Sorrow, under charges of flying a false flag.

cruiser, Captain Hollas, runs the smuggler ship’s registry over

==Rules Summary==
===Rolling the Dice===
When you try to overcome an obstacle, you roll dice. Start with one die.
Add a die if you have a trait that can help you. If that trait has any tags
that apply, add another die for each tag. Finally, add any number of dice
from your personal pool of dice (your pool starts with 7 dice).

Roll all the dice you’ve gathered. Each die that shows 4 or higher is a hit.
You need hits equal to the difficulty level (usually 3) to pass the obstacle.

====Levels====
easy—3 difficult—4 challenging—5 extreme

If you pass, discard all the dice you rolled (including any pool dice you
used). Don’t worry, you can get your pool dice back.

If you don’t pass, you don’t yet achieve your goal. But, you get to keep
the pool dice you rolled and add another die to your pool. The GM will
escalate the situation in some way and you might be able to try again.
===Conditions===
When events warrant or especially when you fail a roll, the GM may
impose a condition on your character: Injured, Dead, Tired, Angry,
Lost, Hunted, or Trapped. When you take a condition, mark its box
and say how it comes about. [Note: The “dead” condition just means
“presumed dead” unless you say otherwise.]
===Helping===
If your character is in a position to help another character, you can give them
a die from your pool. Say what your character does to help. If the roll
fails, you get your pool die back. If it succeeds, your die is lost.
==Keys==
When you hit a Key, you can do one of two things:
* Take an experience point (XP)
* Add a die to your pool (up to a max of 10)

If you go into danger because of your key, you get 2 XP or 2 pool dice
(or 1 XP and 1 pool die). When you have accumulated 5 XP, you earn an
advance. You can spend an advance on one of the following:

*Add a new Trait (based on something you learned during play or
on some past experience that has come to light)
* Add a tag to an existing trait
* Add a new Key (you can never have the same key twice)
* Learn a Secret (if you have the means to)
You can hold on to advances if you want, and spend them at any time,
even in the middle of a battle!

Each key also has a buyoff. If the buyoff condition occurs, you have the
option of removing the Key and earning two advances.
===Refresh===
You can refresh your pool back to 7 dice by having a refreshment scene
with another character. You may also remove a condition, depending
on the details of the scene. A refreshment scene is a good time to ask
questions (in character) so the other player can show off aspects of his
or her PC—“Why did you choose this life?”—“What do you think of
the Lady?”—“Why did you take this job?” etc. Refreshment scenes
can be flashbacks, too.

Lady Blackbird is on the run from an arranged marriage to Count Carlowe.
She hired a smuggler skyship, The Owl, to take her from her
palace on the Imperial world of Ilysium to the far reaches of the
Remnants, so she could be with her once secret lover, the pirate
king Uriah Flint.

however—Just before reaching the halfway point of Haven,
The Owl was pursued and captured by the Imperial cruiser
Hand of Sorrow, under charges of flying a false flag.

even now Lady Blackbird, her bodyguard, and the crew of
The Owl are detained in the brig, while the commander of the
cruiser, Captain Hollas, runs the smuggler ship’s registry over
the wireless. It’s only a matter of time before they discover the
outstanding warrants and learn that The Owl is owned by
none other than the infamous outcast Cyrus Vance.

==Rules Summary==
===Rolling the Dice===
When you try to overcome an obstacle, you roll dice. Start with one die.
Add a die if you have a trait that can help you. If that trait has any tags
that apply, add another die for each tag. Finally, add any number of dice
from your personal pool of dice (your pool starts with 7 dice).

Roll all the dice you’ve gathered. Each die that shows 4 or higher is a hit.
You need hits equal to the difficulty level (usually 3) to pass the obstacle.

====Levels====
easy—3 difficult—4 challenging—5 extreme

If you pass, discard all the dice you rolled (including any pool dice you
used). Don’t worry, you can get your pool dice back.

If you don’t pass, you don’t yet achieve your goal. But, you get to keep
the pool dice you rolled and add another die to your pool. The GM will
escalate the situation in some way and you might be able to try again.
===Conditions===
When events warrant or especially when you fail a roll, the GM may
impose a condition on your character: Injured, Dead, Tired, Angry,
Lost, Hunted, or Trapped. When you take a condition, mark its box
and say how it comes about. [Note: The “dead” condition just means
“presumed dead” unless you say otherwise.]
===Helping===
If your character is in a position to help another character, you can give them
a die from your pool. Say what your character does to help. If the roll
fails, you get your pool die back. If it succeeds, your die is lost.
==Keys==
When you hit a Key, you can do one of two things:
* Take an experience point (XP)
* Add a die to your pool (up to a max of 10)

If you go into danger because of your key, you get 2 XP or 2 pool dice
(or 1 XP and 1 pool die). When you have accumulated 5 XP, you earn an
advance. You can spend an advance on one of the following:

*Add a new Trait (based on something you learned during play or
on some past experience that has come to light)
* Add a tag to an existing trait
* Add a new Key (you can never have the same key twice)
* Learn a Secret (if you have the means to)
You can hold on to advances if you want, and spend them at any time,
even in the middle of a battle!

Each key also has a buyoff. If the buyoff condition occurs, you have the
option of removing the Key and earning two advances.
===Refresh===
You can refresh your pool back to 7 dice by having a refreshment scene
with another character. You may also remove a condition, depending
on the details of the scene. A refreshment scene is a good time to ask
questions (in character) so the other player can show off aspects of his
or her PC—“Why did you choose this life?”—“What do you think of
the Lady?”—“Why did you take this job?” etc. Refreshment scenes
can be flashbacks, too.

== Background ==
The Mendelssohn family has provided the butlers to the Barons von Braunstein for eight generations. The Bartholdy family have provided services to the Ladies von Braunstein for a similar period.

Erich's father was the first to make a union between the two families. He is the baron's man upstairs. Erich's elder brother serves the baron-in-waiting and his elder sister is likewise maid to the future baron's wife. The youngest two Mendelssohn-Bartholdy children have plum positions in notable families within the Empire, their family reputation going before them.

Erich was likewise set to leave some years ago, ready to serve an Altdorf based minister. However, the baron asked a favour of the family and so Erich has followed the wayward son through his adventures; he ensures that the young sir's cloths are clean, that the his bed is warmed and that he is generally presentable.

The Baron may allow his son to travel the Empire making a disgrace of himself, but there is no need for him to look bad while doing so.

When needed Erich is always at his lord's left hand. The adventure of all this he has grown to enjoy even though his dour face may say otherwise. Either the valet's fast tongue or his free purse are usually enough to get the young man out of most trouble; although the later is becoming empty - a letter home may be required soon.

Following Johann's freedom from the jail, Erich retrieved the young master's possessions, including his horse and pursued ready to serve his master.

== Background ==
Growing up in the slums of the capital of Hochland was none too good. Life in the surrounding countryside is good enough, but when a city rat catcher has four children to feed then there isn't much to go round. So when Otto Rottengud was old enough he started as a trader's mate, hawling, rowing, driving. The money was enough to see him better off, but was never going to get his siblings a better life.

So it was that he stashed a crate of Kislevite Vodka under his master's cart on one trip across the border. Without the tax paid, he made a few shillings extra. Next trip it was a couple of crates. A year later and he'd left his master, acquired his own cart and horse and was running the darker routes across the border.

A couple of years ago, when Altdorf introduced it's ill conceived and short-lived "feather tax" that all but crippled the Fletchers' Guild, Otto got to know [[Johann Holder]] quite well. Since then, a few gemstones with missing import notes have gone his way and contact with the appropriate trade guilds for Otto's merchandise has been made by the bowyer.

About that time, his younger brother, Gustav came with him and now has a respectable job as cook at the Fort Gravgart outside of Altdorf. And last year he set his elder sister, Hild, up with some accommodation in the city - she's a good looker and soon got herself afianced to a respectable city burgher and was married last month. The youngest of the family, Ilsa, still lives with their father though. For now though Otto is between jobs and is looking to get enough money to bring his sister to the capital.

The last few months, however, the roadwardens have been tight on the usual routes. So Otto sits in the tavern, handing the barman his last pennies, ordering one more beer than he can actually afford and crossing his fingers in silent prayer.

== Background ==
Growing up in the slums of the capital of Hochland was none too good. Life in the surrounding countryside is good enough, but when a city rat catcher has four children to feed then there isn't much to go round. So when Otto Rottengud was old enough he started as a trader's mate, hawling, rowing, driving. The money was enough to see him better off, but was never going to get his siblings a better life.

So it was that he stashed a crate of Kislevite Vodka under his master's cart on one trip across the border. Without the tax paid, he made a few shillings extra. Next trip it was a couple of crates. A year later and he'd left his master, acquired his own cart and horse and was running the darker routes across the border.

A couple of years ago, when Altdorf introduced it's ill conceived and short-lived "feather tax" that all but crippled the Fletchers' Guild, Otto got to know [[Johann Holder]] quite well. Since then, a few gemstones with missing import notes have gone his way and contact with the appropriate trade guilds for Otto's merchandise has been made by the bowyer.

About that time, his younger brother, Gustav came with him and now has a respectable job as cook at the Fort Gravgart outside of Altdorf. And last year he set his elder sister, Hild, up with some accommodation in the city - she's a good looker and soon got herself afianced to a respectable city burgher and was married last month. The youngest of the family, Ilsa, still lives with their father though. For now though Otto is between jobs and is looking to get enough money to bring his sister to the capital.

The last few months, however, the roadwardens have been tight on the usual routes. So Otto sits in the tavern, handing the barman his last pennies, ordering one more beer than he can actually afford and crossing his fingers in silent prayer.

== Background ==
The Mendelssohn family has provided the butlers to the Barons von Braunstein for eight generations. The Bartholdy family have provided services to the Ladies von Braunstein for a similar period.

Erich's father was the first to make a union between the two families. He is the baron's man upstairs. Erich's elder brother serves the baron-in-waiting and his elder sister is likewise maid to the future baron's wife. The youngest two Mendelssohn-Bartholdy children have plum positions in notable families within the Empire, their family reputation going before them.

Erich was likewise set to leave some years ago, ready to serve an Altdorf based minister. However, the baron asked a favour of the family and so Erich has followed the wayward son through his adventures; he ensures that the young sir's cloths are clean, that the his bed is warmed and that he is generally presentable.

The Baron may allow his son to travel the Empire making a disgrace of himself, but there is no need for him to look bad while doing so.

When needed Erich is always at his lord's left hand. The adventure of all this he has grown to enjoy even though his dour face may say otherwise. Either the valet's fast tongue or his free purse are usually enough to get the young man out of most trouble; although the later is becoming empty - a letter home may be required soon.

Following Johann's freedom from the jail, Erich retrieved the young master's possessions, including his horse and pursued ready to serve his master.

== Background ==
Ranuf Schreiber wasn't a bad lad, but was often in trouble with the militia. Lead on by the other town lads, he'd be caught scrumping apples or playing pranks on the burghers. And so it was that, when the Storm hit, he had the attention of the young new roadwarden, Abellhard Zeiss.

The goblin shaman lead the attack with some form of bolt, which killed Zeiss outright, but by an inheritance from his mother, bypassed Ranuf. He found himself under the mailed body of the warden. He listened and heard human orders from the rear and listening to their tone, mimiced them with an echo from the nearby wall, "Leave the horse. Get on to the town." The order was translated and repeated in the goblin tongue and Ranuf was alone.

Less than an hour later, Ranuf mailed and riding east, he met the roadwarden sargeant. "You'd be the new boy? Zeiss?"

That was many months ago now. He bluffed his way through and learned quickly. Despite his chequered past has served well in his stolen career. The sudden need straighten himself was fulfilled.

Now he heads west, returning from a message delivered to the front.

== Background ==
Ranuf Schreiber wasn't a bad lad, but was often in trouble with the militia. Lead on by the other town lads, he'd be caught scrumping apples or playing pranks on the burghers. And so it was that, when the Storm hit, he had the attention of the young new roadwarden, Abellhard Zeiss.

The goblin shaman lead the attack with some form of bolt, which killed Zeiss outright, but by an inheritance from his mother, bypassed Ranuf. He found himself under the mailed body of the warden. He listened and heard human orders from the rear and listening to their tone, mimiced them with an echo from the nearby wall, "Leave the horse. Get on to the town." The order was translated and repeated in the goblin tongue and Ranuf was alone.

Less than an hour later, Ranuf mailed and riding east, he met the roadwarden sargeant. "You'd be the new boy? Zeiss?"

That was many months ago now. He bluffed his way through and learned quickly. Despite his chequered past has served well in his stolen career. The sudden need straighten himself was fulfilled.

Now he heads west, returning from a message delivered to the front.
