Zarkov was born on a struggling freighter, because House Yashar couldn't afford to have his mother quit working while she was pregnant. He was raised on that freighter because there was no one available better to teach him than his parents. So he grew up among the tramps and vagabonds, learning that money and survival go hand in hand. But more than money, he craved knowledge. Knowledge is power and power brings money and money brings safety, so the more he knew the safer he would be. He spent far too many hours just staring into the void, trying to divine it's secrets.

Perhaps he went slightly mad, staring out into the void. Perhaps the crew was a bad influence on him. Perhaps he was just a philosopher at heart. Whatever the reason, Zarkov began proclaiming his rather heretical humanistic beliefs too loudly. Believing there is nothing greater than the power of the human mind applied correctly is all well and good, but you shouldn't say so when a chaplain is listening. So Zarkov was marked as a heretic and only his position kept him from getting roasted then and there. The house, not wanting one of their better Navigators killed, transfered him to a freighter on the edge of the sector far away from the Ecclesiarchy's presence. For a while, everything was just grand.

Zarkov barely saw the pirates before they attacked, and that is an accomplishment. The engines were taken out in seconds, the defenses soon after. When all was said and done, their cargo was stolen and the few remaining members of the command staff, including Zarkov, were set adrift in an escape pod. Days(weeks? months?) later, they were picked up by a passing naval frigate. Zarkov could never work in Calixis again, not with his reputation. But, unlucky heretic or no, House Yashar couldn't afford to let one of their best Navigators go to waste. So they sent him to work for one of the few Rogue Traders they were still contracted to guide: Capitan Varla Krydis.
Ian is a horror movie aficionado. He's watched them all, from the earliest silent thrillers to the newest hits. He'd be glad to discuss the pros and cons of practical vs CGI effects. He enjoys nothing more than the tension before the scare. If a true horror theme park appeared, he'd be the first in line.

Unfortunately, Joshua Reynolds has been releasing comedies since 1992. The attractions will surely be another batch of badly-acted, cheaply-made farces. Children have made haunted houses scarier than whatever Reynolds can put out here. That isn't to say Ian won't be there opening day, of course. Joshua Reynolds is the world's greatest horror movie director having over two hundred titles to his name. He's also had something built on the edge of the city: Terrorland Amusement Park! You have received an invitation to it's grand opening and the ticket promises the chance to win ten million dollars "if you can survive until the end." But that couldn't possibly be true.

Unknown to the characters the park has "rides" based on six unreleased Joshua Reynolds movies that are filled with deadly traps and creatures. Survive them all and you'll be rich. Fail and you'll just be another victim of the park.

=Background=

*GM rolls all tests.
*If you want to spend a Fate Point for a reroll, do it yourself.
*The GM may choose to spend a Fate Point to give you a boost pre-roll, this will be noted and can be canceled by the player.
