===Background:===

Qin is very optimistic, to the point of a fault. After all, if Divine Appointment really is a thing, ultimately then if you do your utmost, the best outcome for all under heaven should eventually come to pass, shouldn't it? This goes for demons and devils, gods and men, and everything in between, as far as Qin is concerned. A simple man of simple things, he does not worry about the intricacies of religion. What will come to pass will come to pass, regardless of what one does. Not that life doesn't call for the stacking of odds every now and again... what came to pass came to pass because his efforts were greater than his opposition's. Simple enough. He is a rather fun-loving man, although his build and almost permanent scowl would not have you initially think it. Being of barbaric decent, he stands almost a full head above most men, at least. A quiet man, for one who has a mouth that is open more than it's closed, he enjoys the simple things... fame and fortune are not motivation for him whatsoever.

That's not to say he doesn't care about it... after all, something's gotta put food on the table. He started his career early as a security officer for the Twelve Winds security company, the security company started by his Jiangzhou native father. It wasn't until a year or so ago that Qin found out the true reason for his father's company: to act as a clean-up and cover-up crew for the actions of certain rebel elements across Shenzhou. Disgusted and unable to morally remain with the company, but unable to destroy his father's work, Qin disappeared in the dark of the night. These days, he sells his sword arm as a traveling security detail. Well, perhaps hammer arm might be more appropriate.

The night he left the Twelve Winds, although unable to undo his father's work, his rage still kept him from doing nothing. That night, he absconded with the large weapon-artifact the Twelve Winds had been sent to recover: the Demon King's Hammer. This hammer was, and still is by certain parties, believed to have once belonged to a great demon king in ages long passed. As to whether or not it truly is, Qin leaves that up to the gods (or GM, as the case might be.) All he knows is that there is no weapon he has ever held that he has felt a deeper, more spiritual connection with. If the weapon indeed once belonged to a demon king, then that may not be such a good thing... but such worries are better saved for if and when they pop up.

He learned his kung fu from his father, Master Twelve Qilins Ma, although his mother passed on some of her more barbaric martial learning as well. When she passed, his father took him on as a full-time pupil, and made it *very* clear to the other pupils that there was no special treatment for Qin to be had. If anything, he had to work harder, got harsher punishments, and had less free time. While some of the students took this to mean Master Ma did not respect Qin as a pupil, let alone as his son, Qin knew the truth to be the opposite... that his father was pushing him so that he would become greater than any other of the other pupils.

Which is why his father's betrayal to the Empress cut all the more deeply when Qin found out. What other secrets had his father been hiding? Was there some grand design in his raising of Qin? He ponders these things as he travels the empire, and as he tries to find himself beyond just a simple security officer.
== Setting Issues and Campaign Aspects ==

Our '''Campaign Aspect''' will be: ''Unwanted Heroes''

Our '''Setting Issues''' will be:

'''Legacy Issue:''' ''The Empress' Legitimacy Called into Question.''

A year ago, the former Emperor gave instructions on his deathbed that his 10-year old son would be his heir and that Lord Lin, a cousin and minister to the Emperor would be his Regent until the boy came of age. Lin was an unpopular minister among the masses, however, and he despised the Empress because of her active role in influencing her late husband's administration of the Empire. Many worried that Lord Lin might be scheming to take the throne himself--some have rumored that he actually did attempt just that. The widowed Empress capitalized on this popular discontent to launch a bloodless coup of her own where she took direct control of the Empire and declared herself Shuandi, the rightful and true Emperor of Shenzhou. Lord Lin was demoted and exiled to his ancestral home, but he has many allies among the aristocracy who don't like the direction the Empire is going.

'''Current Issue:''' ''Gathering of Shadows within the Empire and Beyond its Borders.''

Supporters of the Empress accuse the old guard of stirring up conflict and encouraging marginal groups to sow disorder in an attempt to discredit her. Opponents of the Empress accuse her of weakening the Empire, causing bandits, criminal societies, and foreigners to grow bold in attacks against the Empire. Shadows Mountain Ox and The Sisterhood of the North are caught up in this. Other factions will also be drawn in--either as friends or foes of the Empress.

'''Impending Issue:''' ''The Tigers Will Strike When Ready.''

The foes of the Empress whisper that rebellion is not an "if"--it is a "when". Lord Lin will be restored as Regent, and the ancestral rights and privileges will be restored to the noble families. In fact, ought he not be made Emperor himself? He is a blood relation to the late Emperor, and having a true Emperor on the throne would provide the stability that a regency lacks.

===Background:===

'''Form Aspect:''' Storm Serpent style users prize flexibility and speed over all. Using swift strikes, twisting locks, and nerve strikes they seek to slow opponents to better exploit their weaknesses. ''Storm Flows Around Mountain:'' If a target uses Full Defense in combat against you, gain a +2 bonus to your next attack against them. You gain this bonus regardless of whether their Full Defense succeeds or not

''Serpent Bites the Hand:'' If you gain shifts on a defense, you can sacrifice your action next turn to immediately inflict an attack on your opponent using the shift value of your defense as your attack result

===Background:===
