Aleister is a good natured individual, a little awkward, but well meaning. If some people have a silver tongue, Aleisters' is lead. Hard labour was his stock and trade, mostly working on the docks and local shipping routes, but he never let his mind atrophy. Many evenings were spent with an old book, belonging to his grandfather, who was considered a great wizard if the stories were true. His somewhat gullible nature is offset by the razor sharp wit of his friend, Theryn. With their meager savings in hand, the two friends secured passage to Perrenland so Aleister could work to join the Pax Mercuri. While he waits for his chance to join Lodevik's mercenary company, he stays with Hanner Dyn and offers his services as a shoreman.

Theryn was never the smartest person in the room, but where knowledge failed, a silver tongue prevailed. Popular without much effort, Theryn rarely found himself wanting for company. In the rare events that his gregarious nature gets him into trouble, Theryn relies on Aleister to provide protection. Theryn often finds himself interested in and learning old tunes about the old days of strength, honour and morality. He sees an opportunity to travel with his friend and spread the songs of old. Leano the Metalsmith was a huge intrest to Theryn with stories of honor and battle drawing him to the forge. A good frind to the old smith.

Panorin Raethran (Silvermoon) After many years studying at a monastery in the Vesve Forest, Panorin was encouraged by his master to venture out on his own. The teachings of his school were to spread the wisdom of meditation and prayer, especially to other elves. Silvermoon, through prayer, was guided to Hannar Dyn and this to Bludstein. Currently, he works as a laborer for Hannar, with his quickness and knowledge of the halfling language making him useful.
He has sworn his Oath, and the Order of the Silver Cudgel has initiated him as a Hunter among their ranks. Now, he has been sent out into the world to spread St. Cuthbert’s justice and His rule of law to those who would deny it.

Members of the Order of the Silver Cudgel (sometimes seen as little more than mercenaries, bounty hunters, and monster slayers by other factions of the Church of St. Cuthbert) often feel drawn to the fringes and ragged edges of civilization, providing their service to those in need for a fair tithe. Ultimately, though, they seek the destruction of chaos, corruption, and evil, in that order and care for little else. Solomon, though fresh in the field, zealously shares those priorities.

Panorin Raethrin (Silvermoon): Panorin has come to this region because, he believes, Corellon Larethain has guided him here. However, he is unsure as to why the leader of the Elven gods would send him to a land where there are practically no elves. Nevertheless, he follows where opportunity and inspiration lead him.
She has spent her life learning to hunt, how to track and move without sound. If some people have a sweet tooth than Cora has a meat tooth, and revels in discovering new and strange cuts of meat from places and creatures no one else might think to try, and has a vivacious appetite that could rival even the biggest carnivore.

Florian Shortsail, Halfling Fighter: Florian was born to a lady of the evening in a halfling village. Florians father Fairin was young and sailing under a pirate captain at the time but quickly left the life behind when Florians mother abandoned him in Fairins arms at only a few days old. Fairin found work as a bargeman shortly after and Florian grew up on the decks of cargo vessels chasing rats and seagulls around, and learning all about traversing the water. Fairin never wanted his son to know he had been abandoned by his mother, so he always told him his mother was a beautiful water fey, who had to return to the sea. He made Florian a small conch shell necklace but told him that it was left to him by his mother. Being left without his mother milk as a baby resulted in Florian being Stunted and skinny. But what he lacked in size and strength he made up for in dexterity and courage. when he was about 16 he and his father took up a job hauling building materials and the like to a new settlement in the sepia uplands, a place called Bludstein. Exhilarated by the prospects of adventure in a new and wild frontier, Florian set out with high hopes. He had heard tales of the Iron mountain Raiders and their prowess and quickly decided that impressing Lodevik, the captain of the Raiders, would be his best opportunity to see some real action and learn how to be the powerful warrior he dreams of being.

Valiand the Mage, human...magic user?: Valiand Parnassis Lechance, or Valiand the Mage, had been running his scams for years; fleecing marks with slight of hand, deception and misdirection. He made a decent living at it, too, until one day, quite suddenly, Valiand had real power. True to his nature, he has concocted a two-fold tale involving his formerly faux spells begining to work, and having no idea why. In this version of events, out of equal parts fear and a desire to become more powerful, Valiand sought out a wizard to train under. In reality, Valiand had grown tired of faking the part, and when one of his cons took a sour turn he was approached in a moment of weakness by a trio of what appeared to be old witches, offering him power in exchange for acting as their agent on the new frontier. It was at their insistence that Val saught out Sarula, and it is through his dreams that the coven control and direct him. Maybe Sarula knows that he isn't quite what he appears, maybe she doesn't - either way she has agreed to take him on as an apprentice.

Well...the goblin tower proved to be a bit of an exciting adventure.

Nothing that will turn heads in this land, but a good start to more exciting things to come.
I won't bore you with to many details, only to state that we eliminated the goblins and their bug bear leader.

We also found an ancient tomb that had many creatures in it and even a few living dead!

Note about living dead...they are pretty squishy and "die" after only a few hits!!!

Afterwards, with a bit of treasure, we all made it back to the colony.

A bit more negotiations with the powers that be and we had some free time...and some coin.

But seeing as this place is "still under construction" so to speak, there isnt much to spend coin on except woman and booze.

Well i do love me booze, the former i can do without. At least here in this mostly human populated colony!

When we asked around for what to do next, we were told that the barges were having a hard time coming up here....due to lack of crews.

Word was also circulating around the colony of a hobgoblin encampment, a bit out of town, that had popped up and needed investigating.

Either task works for me...as long as we do something more than eliminate more bloody goblins.
It doesnt pay well!!

On a bit of a side not, our group is larger now and a lot more diverse than before.
It includes our halfling (that has been with me since my first adventure here)..now a cavalier..Florian.

Our elvin monk, Silvermoon. A monk of exceptional skill who believes he has a special purpose in these lands.

A bounty hunter named Solomon. A great trapfinder and a member of the Order of the Silver Cudgel. He is in search of the evil in this land to eliminate.

The bard, Theryn Penbrook and the warrior Aleister Smyth.

Theryn and Aleister were friends since childhood. Theryn came to Bludstein to explore and learn the stories of the land. Aleister tired of being a shorehand and accompanied his friend. Aleister is looking to become a real adventurer.
Bludstein House Rules

Kevan:

Yeah, I know how much everyone loves extra GM rules. I hope not to have many additions that affect gameplay, but I do have a few house rules that I like to use. Some of these are flexible to change if the group wants. I am always happy to discuss them.

1. Respect the other players. Your characters may not get along, but individual players must always be courteous and respectful to one another. I generally work on a 3 strike system for individual offences, but I have no tolerance for sexism, racism, insults, or similar behaviour.

2. Try to keep it PG. Yes, the players may all be adults, but there are often children around in gaming settings, including my own home. Yes, D&D combat involves gore and there may be adult-ish situations when adult chacters interact, but try to keep it tasteful.

3. I want players to have fun. As much as possible, I will endeavour to say "yes" to your ideas or creative role-play, as long as it doesn't break the story. If you say something like, "hey, my character knows a guy who can get us that" or "hey, my character has an acquaintance who lives in this town", I'll try to roll with it. Something like, "hey, we may be nearly dead in the bottom of this dungeon, but my healer buddy just showed up", that might be pushing it too far.

4. Bonus XP: While scenario XP will be evenly distributed amongst PCs, with half-shares to NPCs, I will often reserve 5-10% of scenario XP as bonus XP for one or more characters who had a critical role in resolving the scenario.

5. Down a player: If we're down a player, their character can still tag along in "zombie mode", acting as close as possible to how they acted when player-controlled, earning half-XP.

6. Down 2+ players: To keep everyone engaged with the story, I'll usually recommend taking a break and either cancelling or switching to boardgames for an evening if we're down 2+ players.

7. It's an especially dangerous corner of a generally dangerous world: The Sepia Uplands are dangerous. The worst monsters may not sit around and wait until your characters are powerful enough to take them on. There could be situation where the wisest course of action is to run swiftly in the opposite direction. I generally won't spring TPKs on the party, but if you decide to charge into a foolish situation despite (usually) warnings, bad things can happen.

8. Diagonal Movement: Okay, I promise not many more house rules, but the first session reminded me that the 5e rules-as-written allow the weird diagonal spring. Ever second move on a diagonal will cost 10' of movement to make for a more natural radius of movement from a starting point.

bodyguards employed

Cora Goodcut, Halfling Ranger: A quiet but confidant young halfling woman who works as a game hunter for her families butcher shop, "GoodCuts butcher" owned and operated by her eldest brother. she came to Bludstein with her many siblings (4 brothers and 2 sisters), sent by her father who wanted them to expand the family business.

Valiand the Mage, human...magic user?: Valiand Parnassis Lechance, or Valiand the Mage, had been running his scams for years. Fleecing marks with slight of hand, deception and misdirection. He made a decent living at it, too, until one day, quite suddenly, his pretend spells have started working and he has no idea why (Squelaiche thought it would be funny, so he's given him the powers he pretended to have). Out of equal parts fear and a desire to become more powerful, Valiand sought out a wizard to train under (not understanding the true source of his powers, he thinks he is casting spells from a spellbook and figures he just sort of fluked into a couple correct incantations). Maybe Sarula knows that he isn't quite what he appears, maybe she doesn't - either way she has agreed to take him on as an apprentice.
Relying on his inborn dexterity and intellect, Tuvian began his career in Radigast City in the County of Urnst as a thief. His early travels took him to many places, including Blackmoor and the Pirate Isles. Ultimately, he found himself in the city of Exag high among the peaks of the Mounds of Dawn mountains in Perrenland. There he began training in the arcane arts among the Illuminated Ones, an ancient society of magic users and arcane mercenaries. With his basic education complete, adventure called to Tuvian again and he left Exag, joining the Iron Mountain Raiders as a new recruit, joining Lodevik Isenberg’s retinue in Bludstein. En route to Bludstein, Tuvian made the aquaintance of Sarula Celannil. Sensing an opportunity to further his own arcane agenda, Tuvian has managed to align himself with Lady Isenberg's advisor and now counts himself among her apprentices. Whether his loyalties truly lie with her is yet to be determined, he hasn't decided yet.
With determination he hopes one day to prove Lodevik wrong and join the mercenary company. That will be the first step on his way to being a warrior of renoun.

Tuvian Hanza, High Elf Wizard: Born in Tringlee in the Dutchy of Ulek, Tuvian was struck with wanderlust and left home at an early age (for an Elf).
Florian dreams of being a powerful warrior and never shys away from a challenge. He is always trying to join the iron mountain raiders in their training and is usually laughed off due to his size.
