You remember a time that never was, and might be.

You don't know why you were chosen, or even if that was intentional on anyone's part. All you knew is a sensation of strange pressure, a moment of time as large being of towering flesh - and then you were in an Earth without a visible sun, or frequently, visible stars.

If you told them, to your surprise, the people of this time simply nodded, before ushering you to the vast historical archives of the tower of stacked cities called the Last Redoubt as a whole. Apparently, someone being lost in post-cognition is accepted, and capitalized on as a rare sight into the mindset of the distant past while the reincarnation's memories resolved. Whether told in dialogues by the archivist-adepts as they interviewed you or having learned from observing the world around you, they called the Earth of this era the Night Lands, and that the sun had been dark for centuries. There were still stars - it was the world of Night, not of Darkness, and most humans had left the now nearly-uninhabitable cradle of mankind at the cost of their physical humanity, reshaped into beings that could survive passage to and upon alien worlds. The Redoubt was what was left behind to those who wished to make something of the darkened, now-alien world of nocturnal plants and roving beasts, by-blows of the Old Ones' post-Shrouding awakening, the twisting of the sable-sun's eldritch radiations...and the brutality of man without any humanity of mind.

They aren't the only ones out there. Some are simply peaceful villages - maybe it is was or will be different, but not all of the Night Lands are hungry horrors or in thrall to what the Redoubt calls, prosaically, Forces of Evil. Humans are stubborn creatures, and with a sorcerer, Denizen, or Scion at the helm, life can be eked out even with the stars themselves usually hidden by the Shroud of a pitch-black sky in less hostile places. But then there is the Tsan-Chan, and the House of Silence's cultists. The latter is an old threat - the strange living mansion that takes explorers from the Last City into itself and Destroys them - not kills, for their souls go on to the afterlife and their next incarnation, but so wounds their spirit they are caught in an agonizing half-life as bodiless spirits that are just alive enough to suffer - has a sect of mystical bandits that serve it for power over the monsters of the waste, in hopes of power over humans. The former is new - the shapers of flesh like clay and cloth, who disdain mercy as venerating weakness, and have made their own domed cities in the image of the castles of empire - one that seeks to expand.

It all ended along the same lines - you met an Old One in some way, and experienced the terrifying wonder of the sublime - and whether by intention or coincidence, you were sent back to your time, where you were out an hour - and knew your fellow reincarnates' names.

So you sought them out - but in the process, you made a discovery.

The Tsan-Chan are many things. Authoritarian, brutal, and contemptuous of anything that smells of sentiment that disrupts their precious order and its desire for growth. But they think of themselves as akin to eusocial insects, all serving the Empress their divine founder made to oversee after he passed from mortality into a representative of the divine, like many a Caesar before him, as workers serve their queen - which is to say, she is their heart, not their brain, the Chani make decisions that do not concern Her on their own. One of the things that struck the more culturally aware of you is that the Chani often represent themselves as honeybees, from their art to their sigil, a bee in flight over a strange letter in Aklo you are told means both "divinity" and "shadow."

Variations of that same honeybee symbol - when you were looking online, you saw that many posters that grew suddenly hostile to you have it in their profiles, and threatening sigils were left incorporating it stenciled near your homes.

Perhaps in that world, the Shrouding was thousands of years in the future - but it is clear a terror of it is present now.
Name: Robert Dunsan

Backstory:

Appearance:

Personality: Robert, above all else, loves life and humanity in particular. He holds it as valuable in and of itself for everybody to be able to live as they want, to reach their full potential and, preferably, to enjoy it. Some might claim it pure hedonism (and to a degree it is - despite leaving his decadence firmly behind, Robert still enjoys a good party and attractive company), but at the core of it lies not shallow chase of pleasure, but iron-tight conviction that everyone deserves something good to happen to them.
Appropriately, Robert lives with joy in his heart, at least as much as he can. He is exhuberant, flamboyant and more than a little bit wild, though he takes care to look out for less fortunate - mostly successfully. For this reason he refuses to leave Sherwood Theatre - nonglamourous as it is, he respects their devotion to playing for everybody, not just the elite - and only accepts roles in plays conveing the message of acceptance and community. Good-natured and charitable, Robert strives to be liked and to help anyone he might need it, whether through the medium of his art, through tossing money around, through a good talk or through just being there to listen. He can still be a glory hound, however, and loves basking in the adoration of the audience perhaps more than strictly healthy. It's something his friends have long learned to live with, suspecting it's either unresolved issues stemming from widespread rejection he experienced in high school or just natural human need that Robert simply feels stronger - Robert neither confirms nor denies. For all his good nature, it is also true that when he deems necessary, he is more than willing to leverage every bit of his acting skills and emotional perceptiveness to verbally deconstruct any opposition, lie through his teeth without missing a beat and press every button to get things done.
Campaign Questions and Answers
Who were you in the Last Redoubt, and who, if anyone, knows you’re being ridden by a past alternate ancestor?

I, or more precisely my future self, was an entertainer - dancing, singing, acting, stand-up, my job was to do anything that would help people go to sleep and care about waking up next 'day'. Not too different from what I'm doing in the 21st century. I mostly keep the mindswaps secret, but I've got a couple regular stage partners and I've told them in case I switch in the middle of the show.

What is something good about the Redoubt that makes it worth fighting for? What is something that is bad but could be reformed?

Isn't the belief that people deserve to live and prosper by default enough? Well, then, I must say I'm fascinated by the culture and social organization. It's a beautiful melting pot - I don't think I've even seen Mayan deities painted in Egyptian style in a Gothic cathedral - and they managed to remain normal, open, moral people even when their technology made life extention and enchancement to peak human condition possible. I think, however, that they're a bit stuck in the past. Despite everything, there is an undercurrent that the best era of history is passed never to come back - and though I don't blame the people, I'd like them to be a bit more optimistic.

Have you met any survivors with humanity out in the Night Lands? Are they “human survivors”, and if not, why not?

I haven't been out in the Night Lands since the switching started and I don't remember my alternate future self going there - which does not mean he never did. I never met anyone post-human from there. That said, on some occasions we've been incorporating plants from the Outside into stage design. There is this beautiful crystalline vine that grows towards divine power like normal plants grow towards light.

What is awful enough about the Tsan-Chan to make you realize that the Last Redoubt deserves to win their cold war?

Like, aside from their sales pitch involving subjugation and/or genocide of anyone and anything that disagrees with them?

When and how did you encounter your new patron Old One, and how did they send you back? Is there something alien about the transformed world of the Night Lands you actually enjoy?

I've actually met the Black Goat as my 21st century self, and the Visitation didn't exactly 'send' me back from Night Lands, it pulled me back. Long story short, I was quite a bastard back then, drunk on success, doing nasty stuff in part because I wanted to fit in with movers and shakers and in part because I wanted to take everything I felt I was owed. Spoiler alert: not exactly fulfilling. Anyway, one evening me and my cronies are partying in a cabin in a woods, high as kites, and for some reason I decided to go for a walk. I got my first jump to Night Lands then, and after like... a month? I sense something pulling me 'back' (saying back, but it wasn't a spacial direction), feeling like hunger and thirst and all the impulses of living creature, and then I'm back, face-to-appendage with god-ecosystem-thing that is Shub-Niggurath.

Have you met the Brethren of Silence? What made you fear the House of Silence without seeing it directly?

When I learned about it, the piece of Shub-Niggurath in me shuddered. I count myself lucky I only know it by name.

How did you figure out others had the same disjunct you did, and how did you figure out there are people who want to be the Tsan-Chan, including probably darkening the sun?

First I made sure that it all wasn't a bad trip. Met a son of Vulkan who confirmed that I'm a Mythos Scion, was a bit of a shock. After second swap I started to do some research, both via mundane and divine means, and then I learnt about other scions with similar condition. The pre-Wasps I found out about through the grapevine - Mythic stuff is rare, so when rumours started circulating about a group recruting on a basis of anti-altruistic ideology they reached me quite soon.

Backstory
Born as Hor Drath Karalgin, Hor Thanuk was a son of respected forge-holder and a lay sister of Stone-Headed Bull priesthood. His aptitude for machinery lead to early apprenticeship in one of many arco-foundries that made his home famous. All seemed to indicate an illustrious carrer ahead of him, until during his third decade there a terrible accident claimed the life of his master and many other arco-smiths. While he was only partially responsible, judges were sympathetic to old master and Hor was found guilty of negligence, murder and sabotage. Stripped of his name and pronounced Thanuk ("exile" in Bull Peaks' dialect), he was banished to a backwater village on a spit. He tried to find a life there, until the waves claimed it and Hor had to seek escape, becoming a rattlehead at first passing ship. Five years has passed and Hor Thanuk now lives for two things only: to become greatest mechanic on the Wildsea and to get even with those who banished him - and doesn't particularly care if it happens by earning pardon or by bloody vengeance.

Home: Bull Peaks, a heavily-industrialized archipelago ruled by priests of Stone-Headed Bull and forge-barons. Within looming mountains work never ceases - underground halls house great forges and foundries where arconautics are combined with old metalworking rechnology. This unique industry brings great wealth, but poisons and corrupts local forest. To inhabitants of distant isles people from the Peaks are known as gruff, but reliable traders and master crafters, to their neighbours they are cruel oppressors, coming each month on iron-clad ships for tithe of food and people.

Favourite Food: Hor is far from picky when it comes to food, but fire-roasted wolf meat is a dish he particularly likes - a reminder of days before his exile.

Fighting Style: Like many of his kin, Hor is resilient, determined and brutally practical. He usually fights at standstill, confident in his ability to take anything enemy throws at him, and picks off targets one by one with precise shooting or methodical hammering strikes.

Blessings
The Show Must Go On: For the general public, Ayuta is an unconventional online philosopher whose "A god am I" shtick is just an artistic persona. They have already learned that a lot of weird questions can be avoided with simple "It's research for new vlog" or "This is all fake, I'm filming with hidden camera". (+1 Deception to hide disease or injury)
Bizzare Thought Patterns: With their pre-existing knowledge mixed with divine insights and a bit of madness, Ayuta's mind is chaos. When they open it to an attacker, the results... vary. (Reskinned Outhink the Enemy - Once per Battle, the Sage can make a reflexive Discipline (only) roll when taking mental damage. For each success, they negate 1 damage from that incoming attack)
Mental Guard: Ayuta is filled with raw power of Change, of Transcendence, of Becoming-More, constantly reinvigorating them and preventing mental fatigue. (All Mental Conditions are treated as if they are 1 level lower, except for duration)
Inhuman Visage: Ayuta's entire body is suffused with essence of Change and is constantly, if slowly, transfowrming. (Gain 1 Pantheon Die when the god cannot help but succumb to their dominion in the moment)
Cut Off From The World: Riding high on divine power and a serious (even for an Ascendant) god complex means that even though Ayuta wants the best for humanity, they don't really get humans and they don't really care what individual mortals want to say about certain things. (Bonds are limited to 5-Spark. Start with Failing 2)
Unsettling (Failing): Ayuta's indifference towards normal humans means they don't care that their subtly changing appearance creeps people out. (Either through consious choice or indifference, the god's appearance or demeanor terrifies most humans. Any Influence checks that don't involve scaring others suffer -2 penalty. Readers of "eternalchange.com" (Group) 2 - Regular redears of the blog Ayuta runs, as well as viewers on their Youtube channel. This group is the main source of income for them, as well as a mask when dealing with mortal world, a way to semi-productively channel the insane nature of Change and a breeding grounds for worshippers.
Technical Staff (Group) 2 - While not helpless with technology, Ayuta has little patience for normal and mundane, so they leave the nitty-gritty of maintaining internet presence to those people: video editors, correctors, animators, technicians and others. They are probably the only normal people Ayuta interacts with on a daily basis, even if a few of them recognize their boss's divinity.
University (Landmark) 1 - Ayuta has been known to keep an eye on the local university. It's partially due to immense potential for Change they find in students and partially due to subconsious memory of their pre-divine life
"The Order" (Worshippers - Zealots) 2 - A mystery cult that Ayuta organized from their most devoted worshippers. The members' jobs are scouting for new members, venerating Ayutamasaya through elaborate rites and ceremonies performed in secret (but with quite some pomp) and, occasionally, enforcing the will of Change Incarnate (Placeholder Name)

Appearance and Background
Gender: They/Them ("gender identity" isn't really a thing when you're semi-shapeshifting avatar of transformation)
Age: 25 years
Appearance and Demeanor: The details of Ayuta's appearance vary due to their constant self-transformation. In general their form is medium-height, slender and androgynous. Oval face with slightly feminine features. Green eyes. Auburn hair, straight, end slightly below shoulders. Pale complexion. Inhumanly smooth skin all across the body. Very smooth and flowing shapes, as if their body was originally made out of ooze and turned into flesh. Typical clothes are either robes or loose and easily removable outfits - lesson learned after shredding one too many blouse while manifesting venomous spikes on the back
Behaviour is equally erratic, shifting between mystic serenity, juvenile hyperactivity, general oddness and deadly seriousness. The common ground is detachment - from troubles, from emotions, sometimes from sanity. While unpredictable, Ayuta almost always preaches their philosophy about the necessity of self-transformation to aquire knowledge and achieve enlightenment. They are generally benevolent and friendly, although their god complex and seemingly callous behaviour tends to sabotage their attempts at befriending normal people. To Ayuta, them being a god is as much a part of their nature as
Background: The girl that would become Ayutamasaya was born as Anne Raven in the Middle of Nowhere, Colorado. A quaint and slightly backwater town was all she knew until she moved out to Silverstone to study. A "big-city" culture was a shock to her and studies soon took a second place to her desire to absorb this place and experience everything it had to offer. Luckily for her, she remained studious and her natural gifts meant that she thrived in chemistry classes and chose Chemistry for both her bachelor's and master's degree, specializing in psychoactive substances. She was already familiar with the subject and sometimes the only thing that saved Anne from being kicked off for using lab equipment to cook drugs was a very detailed report on composition, manufacturing process and effects upon consumption. When she finally obtained her degree, she naturally threw a wild party to celebrate. She would have probably lived a life of hard work and hard partying if it weren't for a drop of divine blood she accidentally ingested with one of her concoctions.
Immidiately, she felt transformation coming to her with a surge of power and expanding senses. However, the god whose blood she held was still alive, if dying, and without full Spark she could not ascend fully. Her body turned against itself, trying to contain the transformation and putting Anne in coma. She was put in a hospital under observation, until the old god died and Spark could reshape her fully. Anne awoke a week after the party as full-blown divinity, but remembering nothing of her past life. She immidiately reached two conclusions: one, she held the literal power of Change within her; two, as far as she remembered, she was like this forever. Thus she reimagined herself as Ayutamasaya, Eternal Change and Transformation Incarnate.
After a troublesome, but not fruitless recovery, Ayuta pretty much disappeared for a while, cutting ties with almost everyone they knew before ascension. They resurfaced a couple weeks later with a blog and video essay Youtube channel, where they preched their new philosophy. A hodgepodge of Anne's old beliefs, Eastern mysticism and multitude of occult traditions, it claimed that any static belief system is flawed in the ever changing world, that true knowledge can only be achieved by changing something and being changed in turn and that enlightenment can only be achieved by self-transformation that allows one to be as fluid as the world and thus see it in rest. It proved to be somewhat popular as self-help ideology, while also attracting a couple more spiritual types and forming "The Order:, as well as putting Ayuta on the local divine radar.
