In an alternate earth that&#039;s suffered a world ending war humanity, which was the only sentient species before the world destroying weapons fell, now finds itself faced with mutants of all kinds and stranger things from monsters to demons to aliens which all pop up over the place. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Technology is no longer as pervasive and awe inspiring as it once was although some places, like what was once known as Las Vegas but is now called the [[City of Lights]], has some fairly high tech, power armour, robots (including giant mechs and AI guided warbots), energy weapons and other technological marvels from the age of wonder that proceeded the current age in the walled off area around what used to be the Vegas Strip. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The area outside the Strip though is nothing but urban ruins and a lawless savage wasteland where might makes right and law enforcement and security is dependent on your own strength of arms.  Of course that&#039;s not always true as a few places run by those with the strength to enforce their will like a gangcult or religious organisation or criminal syndicate or some other group with enough weapons and people to enforce the rules they choose.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In this urban wasteland, or the Free Zones as they are called by the wealthy people in the strip, mutants, monsters and aliens roam freely and are rarely bothered by others, left alone because of fear or indifference.  However none of the more inhuman creatures and mutants are allowed inside the Strip and only a very select few Free Zoners have ever seen the Lights Displays and Interactive 3D AI holograms as anything more than muted lights in the distance. &lt;br /&gt;

Jack Kurgan is a mercenary, willing to work for anyone if the pay is high enough. He wields a laser gun in one hand and uses his other, cybernetic, hand to punch people in the face. He knows a fair amount about the local area, including where to find bars and information brokers. His main weakness are that he tries to solve every problem with violence, and he can sometimes have unreliable loyalties. He is an intimidating six feet, and constantly has five-o-clock shadow and a cigarette dangling from his mouth. He wears a leather long coat because he thinks it marks him as a mercenary and more importantly it just plain looks cool.&lt;br /&gt;
