However, he has been aware of the supernatural after reading some of the older tomes in the library. Having done research and investigations on the supernatural elements in the city, Josha intends only to find out just what happened to him, why and to fix it - a simple enough idea. But the Fae aren't too pleased with the idea of finding out what he was, and use outside agents to try and stop him, and in evading them he gets into even bigger trouble.

Edmund lends Joshua some of his books, preparing him for the fight ahead. However, this attracts the attention of the Summer Court, so now the Fae are watching him...

Ardua Chronochthon the Glorious Engine is a Wyldlord of most befuddling complexity. He (or she) is an assemblage of parts, constantly in motion, never the same twice. Amidst clicking metal gears and churning pistons festooned with glistening strands of congealing lubricant and diesel can be seen components apparently made of bone or wood or organic throbbing tissue, arcane assemblies of whirring chains, or serenely-revolving crystal spheres. The only constants across his manifold manifestations are his heart and eyes: all of imperishable ice. At the core of the vast autonomous automaton is a series of throbbing spheres of frozen water, each one a monument to stasis. His eyes are spheres of cracked ice, weeping frost and shrouded in mist. Some parts of him appear to be held together by nothing other than coruscating arcs of electricity. When he moves, he appears to flicker, lurching as he does through and across myriad moments, movement accomplished as much by folding space as traversing it. His mandate is change, progress, evolution, advancement at all costs. If a constant is to be found, it would be his unswerving, unrelenting, non-negotiable conviction to his purpose and his nature.
