Lilith Durst, the Power of Murder (Imperator: Ananda; Affiliation: Unknown): A tall, lean woman in her 30s with a wide, predatory smile (see also GWB p. 53). Widely known among the Nobles of Earth; considered the most approachable of Ananda's Familia.

Familia Aya-Sherida
Megan, the Power of Denial

Luis Jimenez, the Power of Extinction

Melisande, the Power of Reconciliation

Familia Coeus
Mr Else, the Power of Misdirection

Phoebe D, the Power of Oracles

Arktos, the Power of the North

Lucien Polastron, the Power of the Pole Star

Familia Helica
Doctor Maximilian Stern, the Power of Drugs (Hell-aligned): Typically appears as a successful doctor who has retired from the practice of medicine and now sits on the boards of several major pharmaceutical and medical research companies. German. Stern, grey-haired, trim moustache and goatee, rimless glasses, immaculate suits in white or grey. The Estate of Drugs was formerly largely beneficial, and closely aligned with the Estate of Medicine (a Serpentine Estate, currently not enChancelled). However, when the Doctor was enNobled, he rapidly turned it into a tool of corruption. He is believed to have initiated the War on Drugs as a means of empowering his Estate and advancing his cause. Dr Stern is known to be frequently at odds with his Familia because of his approach to his Estate. Widely supposed to hand-in-glove with Entropy's Powers and the Camorra. Rumoured to have once been the lover of the Power of Addiction.

Familia Rauthus
Aaron Kaufmann, the Power of Addiction (Dark-aligned): Typically appears young, devastatingly handsome, black hair, very white teeth. A Hollywood socialite who can get into all the best parties and has the best drugs. (There is a long-running rumour that Kaufmann and Stern were once lovers, and that Kaufmann helped Stern develop the War on Drugs and other aspects of his take on the Estate. However, they had some sort of falling out in the 1960s, and since then Kaufmann has worked against Stern.) He fights to make drugs legal but also opposes attempts to make them safe; his aim is to give as many people as possible the option of destroying themselves through addiction.

Markannas, the Power of Noise (Hell-aligned): Tall, black, handsome, athletic, early 20s. Wears black leather, rides a motorcycle. He cultivates disfiguring sores around his mouth and ears, but they don't detract much from his appearance; he gives the impression he doesn't care much about them and only does it to keep his Dark-aligned siblings off his back. Known to be in a Nettling feud with Sound.

Familia Raziel
The Power of Secrets (name and affiliation unknown): Typically appears as a short, compact, middle-aged man with a shock of white hair. Congenial, fussily pedantic. Secrets is well-connected in Noble society and serves as both confessor and gossip. He will protect any information that he is specifically told to keep secret, and will also spread any information that he is not specifically told to keep secret. In both capacities he is considered valuable by many Nobles; any attempt to force him to reveal one of his secrets is likely to arouse the anger of many Nobles, as well as the Heavenly forces that protect him.

Familia Shamshiel
Scott Maunsell, the Power of Sound (Heaven-aligned): Typically appears middle height, pale, thin, late teens, shaggy dark hair; geeky and excitable. Very interested in sound engineering and technology, and most forms of music.

Familia Zadkiel
Lady Asano, the Power of Memory (Heaven-aligned): Typically appears as a beautiful Japanese woman, slightly under average height, youthful but dignified, calm, graceful; wears the garb of an eleventh-century Japanese noblewoman or modernist stylings of the same. The Lady Asano is widely known to have a friendly rivalry with the Power of Secrets as to which of them is the most accomplished gossip and socialite among the Nobles of Earth. She believes that the construction of a life in memory is the finest form of art humanity has to offer.

Senhor José, the Power of Names

Amonite or Amonist Christianity was an early Christian (or pseudo-Christian) sect, apparently originating in Egypt. It was one of the lesser heresies suppressed by the Council of Constantinople, but the sect went underground and survived. It reappeared in northern Spain and southern France in the 10th century, and again in Flanders in the 12th century, though it was believed to have been eradicated there by the Brugesian Crusade in the mid 13th century.

The Amonites believed that the Trinity comprised 'Mother, Father and Son' or 'Mother, Son and Holy Spirit'. In their doctrine, God had a male and a female aspect, represented by the primal air and water present at Creation. They also professed that these aspects entered into Mary and Joseph to create Jesus Christ, though their orthodox opponents claimed that even this was a facade to conceal their belief in a two-natured non-Christian deity.

Description
'... an old city spread beneath her feet, cobbled streets and canals, bridges and barges, plazas and palaces.'

Ysbruck appears as a grey Old World city with a crystal sky. Dimly scintillating light creates shadows where things hide or disappear; the colours follow the inhabitants into their far-too-vivid dreams. The citizens are usually silent in the streets, but faint echoing voices can still be heard. Behind closed doors, some lead lives of quiet contemplation, while others occupy themselves with drug-fuelled debauchery, for both such paths are considered valid routes to enlightenment. Much of the city's business revolves around the various colleges of alchemy and sorcery.

The sky is the city's most striking feature, though it is often obscured by fog. Vague shapes of various colours gradually move across the sky, somewhat like a lava lamp seen through frosted glass. Indeed, many of Ysbruck's astrologers now believe that the city is covered by a dome of crystal, beyond which is a many-coloured sea (considered a remnant of the celestial waters of Genesis). Some claim that occasional gaps appear between the fluid shapes, revealing a second dome of crystal with a dark sky beyond it; these claims have not been widely accepted.

Although no sun can be seen, the city does currently have a day-night cycle with the brightening and darkening of the sky. The colours and shapes in the sky are unpredictable, but the trend is for yellows, oranges and reds to appear in the morning, moving from east to west across the sky in front of blues and greens through the day, followed by darker blues and purples into the night. The frequent mists diffuse the colours of the sky, creating a Turneresque atmosphere.

The conventional technology of the city is roughly comparable to that of Europe in the late 19th or early 20th century, but the extensive application of magic and alchemy provides equivalents of many more modern conveniences.

The majority of the Chancelfolk are Amonist Christians. The main centres of worship are the cathedral in the city's centre and the five district chapels.

Other Nobles
Senhor José, the Power of Names

Imperators
(Ananda, Imperator of Murder, the Infinite and the Fourth Age)
Limit: Focus -- MP3 player (contains 1 level of Spirit, Unblemished Guise, Invisibility, one SMP, one AMP). In mortal life, this was Silence's shield against the world, her way of hiding. After her Commencement left her physically weak, her Imperator ensured she had at least rudimentary protection against the world by empowering her tool of choice with a fraction of her soul-shard, to shield and hide her better. She is seldom without at least one 'phone in, and never without the player on her person. What was once its skin has fused into an abstract pattern surrounding the flowers of her Design, and as an added bonus, it doesn't need to be recharged any more.

Restriction: Nameless: "If you name me, so shall you break me. What am I?" The answer is Silence; perhaps it is some weakness inherited from Amun/et, or tied to its inherent secrecy, but the Power of Silence is in the power of those who name her aloud. Much like a Deceiver, she can be commanded once a day by doing so. To pre-empt this, Amun/et has stripped away her Name from her very soul and hidden it beyond human memory- perhaps in a well-guarded physical form, HG's choice. Officially, she does not exist, and those who knew her remember her but not her name, even her own father.
This has various disadvantages. Mainly, the importance of defending the name, and the dire consequences should it fall into the wrong hands. It also makes dealing with mortal authorities a bit difficult; it seems not even a fake identity will stick to her very well. Finally, she has been left with a burning desire reclaim her identity. Just because Amun/et did it, and for her own protection, doesn't mean she intends to take it lying down.

Restriction: Stubborn: It takes an awful lot to persuade Silence against something she's set her mind on. It can be done, but her headstrong nature tends to get her in trouble.
Jonas Woodrow (hate): Silence's father. Irate, bearded, gun-toting Texan by night and Chief Legal Officer of an international courier company by day. Following his divorce of Silence's mother and her subsequent death, he became solely responsible for his daughter, but never took to fatherhood with great enthusiasm or particular aptitude. Whether out of pride or concern for public image, he refused to allow anyone more qualified to look after his daughter either. It was not difficult to summon sufficient hate to claim him through the Servant's Rite; now he's a handy source of funds and occasional reluctant string-puller and pavement-pounder, too.

Design
A larchflower (Audacity) circled by branches of yellow acacia (Concealment), positioned in the dark portion of a crescent moon.
5 The safety, and her rediscovery, of her name
4 Her independence and the appearance thereof
3 Her MP3 player
2 The park where her Commencement took place
1 Her father (she hates his guts, but he's hers and no-one else gets to mess with him)

Background
Silence's Regal is young, free, single and pissed off.
Her short life was relatively untroubled up to the age of thirteen, and the sudden and accidental death of her mother. That will put a few dents in any child, and being uprooted and moved out of State into the custody of a father obsessed with work and unprepared for parenthood helped not at all.
To deal with all this, she withdrew increasingly into her own world. She discovered the gothic subculture and embraced aspects of it, because she wanted to... but remained largely on the edge of or outside even that social circle. Her attentions turned inwards and she began to talk less and less, responding to people nonverbally or not at all, and eventually stopped talking altogether. The silence perhaps started as a protest against being unable to please her father, or her inability to fit in at school, or the unfairness of the universe, but by the time anyone tried to do anything about it, it had become something deeper, a defining part of her. Punishment and praise alike failed to move her. Taken before educational counselors, she sat silently for thirty minutes or an hour, and left. She found ways of being dismissive, ironic, hurt and sarcastic without a sound, and developed new tones of silence. And she had said no word for months, and was on her way to a facility for problem teens, when the area was EnChanceled and she snatched away by Amun/et.

She appears to be about seventeen, dark-haired and purple-eyed thanks to coloured contacts; she's typically clad in a black dress, spiked choker, dark make-up and her music player. While she is not underweight, nor particularly slight or unhealthy, her appearance is dominated by Silence: She gives the impression of being exaggeratedly pale, fragile, and ethereally weightless; her hair and clothes actually float slightly when she moves, as if in low gravity, even when she's not flying. Colours on her appear deep and muted. When she enters a room, people exchange glances as at the falling of a sudden hush. It goes without saying that she makes no sound unless she wants to. When she does speak, no matter the actual volume, people remember it as a whisper.

In contrast to her sister Caelestis LSD, Silence has very little experience of the wider world; her life for some time has been a kind of slow death, out of which her Commencement rudely jolted her. Not that she would ever, ever admit this, but rather take pains to appear worldly, jaded and wise.
Background
Far away and a long time ago, there lived a man with his family in the country. This man worked as an accountant for the local Lord but the pleasure of his heart was the garden he tended behind his house. Each year the garden was more beautiful as he made new arrangements and imported exotic plants. It was his biggest pride, bigger than his wife and his daughter who tried to be loving and tender but felt neglected. One day, this man lost his position due to the falsehoods spread by a new counselor sent from the capital. His grief was short for his garden warmed his heart. After a time, one or two or maybe three years, his wife ran away with her lover, tired of a life of sacrifice. He didn't mind, he still had his daughter and his garden. Then, a short time after losing his wife, his daughter died of a strange sickness, and he decided that he no longer needed servants. He stayed all alone with his garden.

And so passed the years, and the man regretted nothing. But when the uprisings started and the revolution knocked at his door and burned down his house and his garden, the man lost everything. He grieved for the loss of his position, his wife, his daughter and his garden. The pain almost made him lose his mind, and he started a life as a wanderer. Until, when walking an almost non-existent trail that crossed a forest, he met a stranger...
He griefed the losing of his position, his wife and his daughter and his garden. The pain almost made him loose his mind and started a life as a wanderer. Until, when walking an almost non-existent trail that crossed a forest a stranger approached him...

Miracle menu for Mary Jeanette Kelly, Power of Mystery

Level 0, Estate-driven divinations
Know if the Estate of Mystery is under attack.
Hear prayers.

Level 1, Ghost miracles
Make a person, place or thing more mysterious/interesting.
Make a girl more alluring. (Why am I thinking about her?)
Make a cave more enticing. (What could be in there?)
Make a puzzle more interesting. (How do those pieces fit?)
Make an aspect of a crime scene more important. (How did the fingerprints get here? What was the killer doing?)
Level 2, Lesser divinations
Know at a glance what is mysterious and what is mundane.
Look at a crime scene and know which details are clues and which are red herrings. (The bloody fingerprints are from the homeless person that stumbled on the scene first, panicked and ran away but the muddy foot print ten feet over is from the killer as he ran away.)
Know at a glance who is 'mysterious' but not the unknown. (For example, spies, under cover police, thieves and assassins, as well as non-humans masquerading as humans, would show up as mysterious but their true natures would not be revealed.)
Level 3, Lesser preservations
Make puzzles harder because it is more difficult to solve them.
Allow Clark Kent to take off his glasses and have no-one recognize him.
Prevent people from figuring out how to use an unfamiliar remote or how to operate a machine that is of a new design.
Conceal an important clue from police.
Block off routes into deeper parts of a cave.
Make explorers reconsider their explorations.
Foil efforts to track an escaped convict.
Foil efforts to solve a medical or scientific problem.
Level 4, Lesser creations
Provide inaccurate parts or instructions in the wrong language for a model.
Scramble directions given to a driver.
Scramble words to create misinformation and confusion.
Remove all fingerprints from a crime scene.
Remove images from recorded media.
Change the layout of tunnels in a cave (or on a map).
Change plain writing into code.
Make a person forget an important fact (from his wife's birthday to the fact that he is married).
(Note: Mystery must always provide a means to resolve itself. For example, changing the caliber of the bullet lodged in a body will also create other clues that the bullet and body have been tampered with.)

Level 5, Lesser destructions
Provide that crucial intuitive leap that allows someone to 'connect the dots' on a mystery. ('Hey... if you put glasses on Superman he would look just like Clark Kent' or 'It would take a billionaire who was also a technological genius with weapons to create the Iron Man armor. Tony Stark is a billionaire and he used to make super genius tech weapons for the army!')
Compel the prankster to reveal how he made the crop circles.
Force Nessie to surface or summon Bigfoot out of the forest.
Provide the key to the Rosetta Stone (before it was translated).
Draw a map of Pharaoh’s Tomb that included traps.
Open all secret doors or safes within a room.
Level 5, Major divinations
Tell when someone is going to die.
(Somewhere between a major divination and a lesser destruction is a magic that is necromancy. When presented with a corpse, Mary can compel it to speak and to answer. When standing in a house, Mary can summon the ghosts of previous owners and ask them about their lives. But in keeping with her Code, even Mary cannot compel simple, plain, direct answers. Even if it is willing to help, the corpse must be obscure. It will speak in riddles or give misleading information, though it cannot directly lie. The spirits of the previous owners may show up as visible ghosts and answer, or may only be knocking that gets louder as Mary gets closer to the hidden panel that holds the murder weapon or deed to the house, or blood dripping words appearing on the walls.)

Level 6, Lesser changes
Summon ghosts or house spirits.
Condemn a soul to existence as a ghost.
Exorcise a ghost from a location, person or object.
Make a person obsess on solving a mystery to the exclusion of all else.
Speak a riddle so complicated that the listener goes catatonic and/or insane trying to understand it.
Make Creatures of Mystery immune to their normal banes (allow vampires to walk in sunlight or werewolves to be unharmed by silver) or change the banes of such creatures (vampires are now harmed by moonlight, werewolves afflicted with heartworms).
Level 6, Major preservations
Cause a mysterious event to become unexplained/unexplainable (DB Cooper, Amelia Airheart, UFOs).
Chain a ghost to a location, person or object.
Cause an investigator to destroy the most important evidence of their investigation.
Make an area inaccessible, impossible to climb, fly over, or find on a map. (Except, of course, there must be a loophole. It may be a dangerous climb, buffeted by winds and attacked by defenders, but there must always be a key.)
Level 7, Major creations
Cause a nation or culture to devote its entire population to a curious ritual or construction that is without obvious purpose (Stonehenge, Digital Pets, The Tower of Babel).
Cause everyone in a major city to forget the last twenty-four hours.
Destroy the birth records from a given decade for an entire country.
Create Creatures of Mystery (harpies, ancient tomb protectors, vampires, BEMs, MIBs etc.).
Turn a major city’s roadways into a hedge maze.
Level 8, Major Destructions
Cause every weapon used in crimes to drip blood.
Cause every criminal to leave indelible glow in the dark fingerprints.
Cause every puzzle to complete itself. (HG's note: Make every puzzle trivial to solve?)
Clear the path to any location that has never been explored.
Reveal the location and something of the nature of Atlantis or the Holy Grail.
(HG's note: Major occult mysteries such as Atlantis or the Holy Grail may have their own miraculous protections that must also be dealt with.)

Level 9, Major Changes
Cause a puzzle to physically consume someone who is trying to solve it.
Cause a mystery location (cave, inaccessible beach, hidden forest, Bermuda Triangle) and any individuals within to become accessible only in the mythic world.
Cause anyone looking at an autostereogram (those pictures you can’t see what they are until your eyes cross) to become trapped inside it.
Mary Jeanette Kelly, Power of Mystery
Attributes
Aspect 0 (5 MPs)
Domain 4 (5 MPs)
Realm 2 (5 MPs)
Spirit 1 (5 MPs)
Gifts
Extra-sensory Perception* (1), Durant (1), Immutable (1), Limited Shapeshifting* (1)

(ESP: Aspect is considered one level higher for the purposes of her five senses and intuition only.)

(Limited Shapeshifting: Mary can become a ghost or take on the physical appearance of any human woman who has died after Mary’s humanity perished. She may choose to look like that woman’s living form or appear with the wounds of death apparent. For example, when appearing in the form of a woman who was decapitated, she can appear as that woman whole, as that woman with her head stitched on by the mortuary's assistant or Mary can choose to be a headless woman and carry the head in a basket. No matter what the form, Mary does not breath, her blood does not truly flow and her heart does not beat.)

Flaws
Revenant Inhabitants: Mystery is disliked by some of the populace of the Chancel. These are the victims of Redjac. This is not a limit as they are few in number and not the entire population of the Chancel so it only applies on those occasions wherein they can cause her some discomfort.

The Three Truths: If someone can name three truths about Mystery to her face, they are protected from her directly affecting them. They gain an effect of having an increase in Auctoritas for every three truths they can speak and it will last for a month for every point of Spirit they posses, or a month in the case of a human. The conditions are; they have to speak it aloud to her. It is not enough to just know these things, they must inform Mary that they know these things. MP generated at the moment the third truth is spoken. Should that person wish to renew the protection, they must speak three different truths. The truths must also be true for the entity speaking them. “You are beautiful” spoken from someone who does not in fact find Mary esthetically pleasing due to cultural differences or whatever gains nothing. Further note, nothing says Mary must stand still and let the truths be spoken. Provided she is not restrained, she can choose to leave but as her hearing is rather good, she might instead attempt to silence the speaker before the third truth is spoken. It is for the HG to decide who knows of this flaw and who does not know about it.

Revenant Anchor Bond: This has a different effect, depending on what her current Victim-Anchor is. I'm not bothering to name each victim and the HG is of course free to inflict a new one on Mary as is seen to be fit. The current 'Bond' is Stigmata. Mary at times bleeds from the palms, feet and her side. Bloody scars mar her forehead and a whip will crack and scar her back with the marks of thirty lashes. I do envision this as manifesting painfully sometimes. If you've seen the movie "Stigmata" then you have an idea of what I mean. They occur (and give the MP) as the Chancel inhabitants that really hate Mystery focus their hatred at her. And they occur (not granting an MP) as I find a reason to write it as such, leaving bloody footprints on the carpet or bloody smears when I find it artistically suited for what I am writing.

The Code of the Mystery
1. Never reveal everything, never explain yourself fully.
2. Nothing that is easy is of worth; no gift is without price.
3. No enigma is without clue, no cipher is without key, and no puzzle is without solution.

Design
Foxglove and Wormwood are the chosen emblems of Mystery's Estate. The fox is a clever animal, and chasing one requires thought and cunning added to this is the medical mystery of it’s uses as both life saving and life ending substance. Wormwood, the main ingredient in Absinthe, represents bitterness, the bitter taste of her blood in her mouth as she was enNobled. Mary drinks Absinthe often.

Bonds
4 The Estate of Mystery
3 Ancient Places of Mystery
3 Missing Persons and Celebrity Deaths
2 Vastly Overpowering Conspiracies
2 Victims of Redjac
2 Mystery Books, Movies and Authors
2 Scientists and Seekers
1 Cynthia (Anchor)
1 Whitechapel

Anchors
Redjac, aka Jack the Ripper: A 'Hate' Anchor, he killed Mary Kelly over a century ago, but he hasn't aged appreciably since then and has survived things that should have killed him. He is an unstoppable psychopathic killer, but he can maintain the temperament of a cultured English gentleman. Meeting him, you would never know how close you stood to death. He chooses his victims with care, and he knows that the pain of the murder he inflicts on them is in some part passed on to Mystery, so he chooses sadistic and horrific methods. His current guise is Vincent Jackson, an English stockbroker.

Cynthia Medici: The current Revenant Anchor, a college student who was majoring in philosophy with a minor in religion; Redjac stalked her for three weeks before finally brutalizing and subjecting her to crucifixion upside down. She 'recovered' and graduated, and now translates documents for the Anglican Church. She manifests stigmata rarely, only when the Chancel Revenants really concentrate on hating Mary, but with enough frequency to hate Mary as well.

Former Anchor Revenants: Mystery has a unique Anchor, which changes. When Redjac murders someone they become an Anchor for Mystery. When he murders again (a year or a decade later, depending on whim) that person displaces the current Anchor, who then becomes an inhabitant of the Chancel. These Revenants are generally pleasant to most, though they often appear as grotesque corpses or monsters depending on how long they were an Anchor and how painful and unpleasant their death at Redjac's hands had been. They tolerate, dislike or hate Mystery depending on these factors and their personalities. They are never her friends but they are members of the Chancel and will not act so as to cause harm to the Chancel or other members of the Familia.
Change the character of a silence (make it more menacing, or soothing, or give it a new one such as 'funny').
Make a silence a physical thing -- a glass bubble that must be broken for sound to come back, or a stealthy cloak, or a wall to keep someone out.
Cause a silence to follow someone around, blotting out sound wherever they go.
The Power of Silence
Attributes
Aspect 0 (6 MPs)
Domain 5 (5 MPs)
Realm 1 (5 MPs)
Spirit 1 (6 MPs)

Gifts
Flight (1), Invisibility (1), Unblemished Guise (2)

Handicaps

Anchors

Bonds
5 The sanctity of Silence

Revelatory Trait (1 MP): When Calypso uses her Estate more often than usual, she conveys an acid aura which lingers on her. Strange tonalities twist into her voice, the color of her hair and skin tone shift into myriad subtle colors, the texture of her skin and even the minute short hairs on her body acquire fascinating and intricate detail.

Background
During the late 1990's, by mortal reckoning, a special variant on LSD-25, called LSD-25+ (street name: Plus) circulated all over the Earth. Plus ripped apart the minds of everyone who took it or caused fatal overdoses. Because of this, Plus acquired the darkest of reputations. Only a fool would take it. The Imperator enNobled the only person foolish enough to take Plus and strong enough of spirit to have survived it. Calypso still brags of tripping balls during her Commencement, as if Commencement itself would not have expanded consciousness enough.

Calypso sees The Wicker Man (the original version) and sees it as a model for living. (The Power of Cult Movies got nettled when the remake came out, by the way. Calypso considered doing something about it, but hasn’t gotten around to it.) She consorts with fairies, because fairies are cool. She looks forward to and contributes to the collapse of shopping mall America. She hands out free tabs a lot though, making sure it stays free of additives which some dealers will add in. Calypso acts as a guardian to the most faithful and diligent prophets of LSD. She does not work towards legalizing LSD in the US or anywhere else., because by the time everyone on Earth drops acid, no rules will remain to stop them from doing it. No rules at all, anywhere.

Miracle menu for Saïd Mechkar, Power of Perfection

Miracles:
I'd like Saïd's perfection to work on three axes, the main one being the idea of perfection. To Saïd, perfection's an ideal, not something that does actually exist. I'd like him to be able to affect the ideal. I think Perfection also affects the « health » of objects (how destroyed they are), and how well they are doing their job.
The domain's main limitation is it can't really create something out of nothing. It has to work from something existing to either perfect or degrade it.
If i'm overreaching, please tell me, i'll work on it.

Level 0
Know if the idea of perfection is under attack: someone could be trying to ruin plato's reputation or ideas, someone could be spreading the idea there is no « perfect ideal » we should strive for, etc.
Hear prayers.

Level 1, Ghost miracles
Projects the image of the « perfect » version of an object over that object
Make something have a « sheen » of perfection (that changes nothing except for a fugitive impression; maybe it's slightly shinier)
Make someone reflect briefly on something (or someone else)'s perfection
Level 2, Lesser divinations
Know how someone evaluates something, how perfect they think that thing is
Know what characteristics someone expect from the perfect version of a given item: a razor-sharp knife with barbs to hurt even more
Know how well something is doing its job just by looking at it (but not why it is malfunctionning, if it is)
Know how broken something is just by looking at it (but, once again, not what exactly is broken)
Level 3, Lesser preservations
Sustains someone's first impression
Prevents things from getting worn out with usage
Prevent the health of someone from deteriorating from sickness, physical attacks, etc.

Level 4, Lesser creations
Make something work better
Mend something broken or deteriorated
Make someone consider something as perfect
Restore someone's failed health
Improve the performance of an athlete, the beauty of a model, or the main characteristics of a person

Level 5, Lesser destructions
Wear something out
Make something work badly
Break something
Reduces someone's opinion of something (or someone else)
Make someone fall sick
Level 5, Major divinations
Know someone's general tastes (what they consider perfect)
Know the collective trends of what people of a country or region consider perfect
Know what someone has to do to perfect themselves, or what to do to an object to perfect it
Know who was the « most perfect » person to enter a bar (according to patrons, according to a specific person, or objectively, according to specific criterions)
Know what cultural trends or values will rise in the future
Level 6, Lesser changes
Make someone's tastes change completely (he used to love tall blondes, now he has it for bald midgets)
Changes the ideals of a crowd, or a clique. Make goths think tan is what to strive for, for example
Changes what characteristics a specific item must have to be « perfect. » This TV set needs to have a « cook » function to be perfect.
Level 6, Major preservations
Prevent someone from ageing or becoming sick ever
Make an item indestructible
Maintain a fad so it becomes a actual cultural value. Being perfect is mastering a yoyo.
In the same vein, preserving someone's fifteen minutes of fame into being an actual cultural icon. « Bob the fireman who saved a class from a fire is now the exemplar of courage. »
Level 7, Major creations
Turn someone into a complete athlete, or a brilliant PHD
Create a cultural icon from nowhere. « Lucy Bloopin is the woman we all want to be. »
Make an item work perfectly « this tv's reception is so clear you feel you were there. »
Create the vision of perfection from someone: Bob's perfect woman, or Stradivarius's perfect violin
Level 8, Major Destructions
Destroy cultural icons: for example Marilyn Monroe is no longer THE sex symbol, but just an OK actress.
Make someone be irremediably imperfect: no matter who they meet, what they do, they're the exact opposites of what they should be, and do the exact opposites of what's expected of them.
Make someone have no taste: everyone and everything feels the same to them.
Destroy a cultural ideal: tanned or muscled is no longer something people try to be.
Level 9, Major Changes
Change the general tastes of perfection
Make perfection a balm you rub on things or people
Changes what attributes an item (or person) must possess to be considered perfect
Background for Saïd Mechkar, Power of Perfection

Saïd followed his mom from Algeria to France, in search for his father, and running from intolerance. In lieu of an eldorado, they found more hardships and bigotry. Saïd's mom, Soumia, was soon submerged by the work she needed to afford the rent, her son's education and other utilities, leaving her no time or ressources for her original goals.

From his mom's example, Saïd worked harder than anyone else at school to earn acceptance. After all if nothing he did had faults, no one could point to these faults. In a way, this worked for him: his hard work let him into a good high school, an even better prep school and eventually to L'école Polytechnique. In a way, this destroyed him: he repressed his feelings to the point they barely registered anymore, and faked most of those he needed to fit in people's expectations.

At Polytechnique, he used his newly perfected charms to endear himself to the successful kids, and integrate various old boys networks, and put it to use to start his company. During his last year there, he discovered that the few feelings he could not keep down would flood him, break down the wall, and take control of him. First when he fell in love with the school director's daughter; then, when she got married. Despite years spent pleasing her and her family, they never got past their prejudice. So, when an obscure clerk named Henry Vernouillet, seemed interested in her, and she seemed to like him, her father arranged an express wedding.

For five years, Saïd burned every favor he was owed and every bit of influence he'd gained, to ruin Henry's work, get him in compromising situations, make him a bitter drunk whom Hélène couldn't stay with.

And as he successed, about to take steps to regain Hélène, he was enNobled.

The new perspective this brought Saïd broke his mind. Getting a seemingly limitless power led his hubris to take control and fulfil as many power trips as possible.

First, he anchored his love to “preserve” her. Then, his rival to “teach” him. He then moved on, organizing a hostile take over on the financial group that was about to buy his company, and again to a physical attack of their headquarters (the incident involved dozens humans, some died, and the small city where this happened disappeared and few remember it).

The escalation went on and on, including attacks against figures of authority (and oppression, in Saïd’s mind), such as the police, until Saïd realized that what he really wanted was to punish daddy.

François de Roche Dieu wasn’t the easy target Saïd had feared. An active and powerful excrucean agent, he was able to first evade, then resist his son’s assault for seven weeks. Each year taught Saïd a different lesson, until his broken mind was mended, and he realized the consequences of his actions.

The first week, François taught Saïd about his humanity, what Saïd had lost, and how it made him who he was. The second week, the father taught his son about his divinity, what Saïd had gained, how it made him more than he could dreams. The third week was a lesson in aspirations, dreams and hope, how it drive us from our humanity toward our divinity, and how it can crush us. And thus, the fourth week was a lesson in pain: pain inflicted and pain endured. The fifth week was a lesson of faith, how it is all that subsists when pain has taken everything else away. The sixth week, Saïd received a lesson in tolerance and acceptance, not only of others, but of yourself.

Noone knows how the conflict with his father ended, what was taught the seventh week, or who (if anyone) won. Some suspect Saïd to have turned coat, or to have been replaced, some say he killed his father, some say he just left, dropping the ball in the middle of a fight. Today, Saïd is back to his old, unassuming ways. He doesn't think of perfection as something he controls or reigns over, but as something he must attain, therefore he tries hard, really hard to be perfect, to conform to anyone's idea of perfection. On the other hand, he is mortally afraid to lose it again, and go back rampaging, so he overthinks everything (and given how much he's developped his mind, overthinking can take a long time) and questions himself a lot.

His aura is therefore not as impressive as it should be, and even his servant question him openly sometimes. On the other hand, he's developed his ability to blend in, and to be the person people most expect to an almost unheard of level.

Hélène Camélia Vernouillet: Saïd's former love. Hélène hates Saïd with passion, and is mortally afraid of him. He made her watch horrors committed in her name, humiliated her family « as a friendly lesson. » They have forgotten all about it, but she hasn't. Even though everything has gone back to normal (or almost) in her life, and Saïd has become the charming, unassuming man she first knew, she is afraid it all is a trick to give her more pain. Hélène is an assistant executive in a company rival to Saïd's. She works hard, slowly cutting herself from people to not have precious people Saïd could hurt again. Hélène is a middle aged woman, brown haired, with glasses. You can tell she used to be beautiful, but it not really taking care of herself that well anymore.

Henri Vernouillet: Saïd's former Rival. Henri has lost everything, and refused everything Saïd offered in compensation. He roams the world as a lunatic, looking for other lunatics of his kind, to share their wisdom. Discovering the mythic world has led Henri to one conclusion: the power must be his. He is ready to do anything to get the same power has Saïd, if he can steal it, it's even better. Of course, Henri has to pretend to be working with Saïd, and to obey direct orders, but his goal is to become a Power of his own. Henri is a small, fat, unkept man, with mad eyes, sparse grey hair, that is always matted. He wears dirty clothes dating from his former glory as a civil servant.

Saïd is a tall, muscular man. His skin color looks like it could be tan, more than skin color, and his black hair is cut short and slightly shiny. He wears a neatly trimmed short moustache. He is always dressed in a beautiful suit.
Yet the whole always seems slightly comical. He reminds people of Borat more than anything.

Handicaps

Anchors

Bonds
5 The sanctity of Silence
