Johannes de Silentio
"Forty years ago, the Thieves' Guild of Altdorf was still young and it hadn't reached any arrangement with the city's merchant houses. There was a trio of merchants in particular who wanted the thieves utterly crushed, and they had enough money to buy the city guards' loyalty -Schneider, Wechsler and Grossmann. It was during the time of the second trade-war with Marienburg, and they had all grown rich selling arms and supplies to the Emperor's forces"

"I need not say that this particular story should not be added to your repertoire, storyteller. It is one of Ranald's many secrets. Anyway, after attempting negotiation and making clear and unmistakable threats, the Guild Council agreed that the three must die. They hired an outsider for it -one Johannes de Silentio, a swordsman from the Border Princes.

"But he didn't keep within bounds. Instead of just the three merchants, he killed their wives, their children, their servants, their dogs... he turned their homes into charnel-houses and a blasphemy before Ranald. When he returned for his money, the Council refused to pay him. He left without saying anything, but when each councillor returned home, they found everything in their homes dead with the tongues cut out"

"He became the subject of Altdorf's biggest manhunt -the guards, the thieves, everyone. Every night for a month, some fool claimed to have seen him in the fog at the back of some blind alley, or passing along the docks in the night -a tall slender man in a broad-brimmed hat with a scarf wrapped around his mouth, like that couldn't have been half the men in Altdorf. Eventually, the guards hanged some poor fool who looked like him and that satisfied them and the Guild put it about that they'd taken care of Silentio themselves, but Johannes de Silentio was never really caught by anyone"

"It shouldn't have mattered. The real Johannes de Silentio probably died of the pox in some Border Prince brothel a long time ago -his kind don't live very long. Nobody really remembers him now -I only know the story from Gallows Rolf, who kept the shrine here before me; he helped in the hunt for Silentio too. It's surprising that Wili's even heard the name. I think something vile is brewing in Altdorf"

Background
Gottfried was born the only child of a serving wench and a small time thug in the employ of the Altdorf Thieves' Guild. Growing up under his father's tutelage, Gottfried learned little of the value of a hard day's work, but did learn a great deal of the underside of the Altdorf streets, and helped as lookout or distraction for a great many of his father's criminal activities and learned of the power of larceny and deceit. Gottfried grew into a bright and charismatic young man who made friends easily. Heartbroken by the death of his father in a drunken brawl with the City Guard, he broke off onto his own, falling into the Altdorf nightlife with ease, paying the bills for his acts of petty debauchery through small time con jobs, working as a bawd, and most of all, gambling.

In that time of frequenting the dance halls, pubs and taverns of the Great Reek, and spending raucous evenings with cardsharps, conmen, pimps, harlots and minstrels, he became a skilled card and dice player, raking in the shillings with (mostly) honest gambling skills and his quick wit. He prides himself as a gambler and a gentleman, though his code of honor is as loose as his morals and respect for the law. Still, there are depths to which he will never sink, and as such has found a deep fondness for the god Ranald, who he believes watches over him so long as he continues to make the Laughing God laugh, and never stoop to become a cold murderer.
A character in the Easy Money PBP WHFRP game.

Background
Born in the slums of Altdorf, the Kaltenbach children were orphaned early as their father "disappeared" after accruing considerable gambling debts and their mother died of plague soon after. Forced to live by their wits, the two youngest children took to petty theft and extortion, and running errands for neighborhood gangs. The eldest, Tomas, found gainful employment in the Sigmarite church-- cleaning the vestry and performing odd jobs for the priests, and eventually joining the clergy as an Initiate. Manfred and his sister Elsa stayed on the opposite side of the law, excelling in leg-breaking and larceny respectively. Manfred joined a series of gangs over the years, but now operates independently, though he maintains cordial relations with with several underworld figures (and more than a few bitter enemies). He keeps his alliances temporary, but worries that he may have to throw in with one organization or another soon.

Manfred gives little thought to the nature of his work, and seems to enjoy it for the most part. His main activities, apart from his job, include, drinking, whoring, gambling, and suchlike, though lately he's developed an interest in theatre. It started when Manfred was assigned to put the fear of Sigmar into a recalcitrant debtor. The man attended a play that evening (The Maiden's Farewell), and Manfred, shadowing him, bought a ticket himself, the better to observe his target.

That evening, he fell in love. All thoughts of brutality left him as the leading lady took the stage. He had happened to attend the night Marguerite Devareaux made her Altforf debut. He was so taken with her beauty, grace, and effortless charm that he almost lost his target after the show. Later, after breaking the man's thumb and relieving him of his silver snuffbox, he wandered the streets in a daze. This has been going on for three months now. In all that time, he has never missed a performance. He has yet to make any direct overtures-- feeling that, for now at least, she is best worshiped from afar. Still, he fantasizes of one day becoming a "proper gentleman" and worthy of the fair Marguerite.

Poor bastard.

A character in the Easy Money PBP WHFRP game.

Background
The Son of Norse Immigrants, Eckhart found life hard, he was always treated as being different by the other children grew up. The one source of Joy for him was listening to the stories his farther told, about both his ancestors, and the tales of the Sigmar and the Empire. Eventually he was able to recite these tales for him self. When he came of age he decided to leave his home town, and make his fortune as a travelling story teller, regaling people with the stories of old. But everywhere he went he suffered the same stigma of being different, his mannerisms, his mode of speech marked him as an outsider. Rarther than allow this to destroy him he made his difference a centre piece of his existince daring others to use it against him.

Unfortunately for Eckhart his luck more often than not runs sour, and he is currently stuck in a run down part of Altdolf with little prospect of getting rich any time soon, however recently he has come across a group of people in the same predicament, perhaps his luck has run good for once.

== Background ==
