FYI on XP for Bluebooking[edit]

I noted this on the xp page but FYI... Bluebook post are each worth the equivalent of one Challenge Rating .5 defeat, if a player writes/replies 3 times to Bluebooking articles that PC will recive the xp total x3. For Example:

Kyuad / Bill[edit]

  • Kyuad: "Eranon, it seems as though that hag's influence is causing some deterioration. Your eyes have changed color, and your skin seems to be rejecting itself. If you don't mind, could I take a look at that? Have you felt strange in any other ways? Any hallucinations or pains of blood?"
OOC: While traveling, if it's possible, Kyuad is going to take a look at Eranon's symptoms and try to determine what is wrong.
    • Does it look like something that can be treated with some attention? (Heal skill)
    • Does it seem like more of a magical effect, like the result of a spell? (Spellcraft skill)
    • Is it something even more unusual that can't be identified with the knowledge that Kyuad already has? (Lorebook check maybe?)

Kevin[edit]

QUESTION... STEVE - for Eranon, what Ability damage does he STILL have on him? I can't remember. [203]

QUESTIONS/Thoughts and Notes - Asked & Answered

  • [KYUAD] While traveling, if it's possible, Kyuad is going to take a look at Eranon's symptoms and try to determine what is wrong.
    • [A]: No. Not while travelling. The reason... You'll remember that Eranon was always back-tracking and coveirng your trails. He would have been very busy. Did Kyuad have TIME during the "sleep" times? (this is why I suggested everyone write notes on the daily calendar thing, to reference)
  • [KYUAD] Does it look like something that can be treated with some attention? (Heal skill)
    • [A]: : ROLL: Kyuad (Heal +9) ROLLED: 16+9 = 25
A disease does seem present. But this seems to be more the work of black magic, than any natural disease. There is no way to cure or slow this creeping issue with the Heal skill alone.
  • [KYUAD] Does it seem like more of a magical effect, like the result of a spell? (Spellcraft skill)
    • [A]: : ROLL: Kyuad (Spellcraft +13) ROLLED: 4+13 = 17
There seems to be more than one effect happening here... Kyuad can determine one of these - a spell-like ability of the hag: "Disease": causing so filthy and vile an incubated infection that may last 5-10 days or more. (Eranon Initially Failed: DC 15 Fort SV, and took 1d4 Str. and 1d4 Con. The DC is Constitution based.)
The other effect is harder to understand (higher DC) but it seems to be some sort of Necromantic spell cast (at Caster level 8).
Unless Kyuad comes up with some deduction on his own or comes up with some interesting new way to investigate to allow new rolls, this is all you'll get for now.
  • [KYUAD] Is it something even more unusual that can't be identified with the knowledge that Kyuad already has? (Lorebook check maybe?)
    • [A]: : ROLL: Kyuad (Lorebook +8) ROLLED: 15+8 = 23
With this roll - Kyuad gains uncommon but available knowlege, known by only a few people in the area...
While monstrous humanoids are not common sights around Eredane, in areas where they exist their presence is constantly felt. A green hag haunts the edge of the Druid’s Swamp, and her malevolent plots are always in the back of the minds of the villagers. Even the druids of the academy there wish the hag gone, but they believe she has some connection with the land that makes her an eternal part of its ecology. It is told that there were seven maidens - a sept of battlemages who had survived spells of the Vile's minions, but they had been too weak to escape the poisonous clouds - lingering on the brink of death and slowly were transformed into vile parodies of their once elven forms. These elven sisters became known as the Hags of Eris Aman, and over the centures they have thended their fould demesne, spreading its hateful influence into the lands. In the Last Age, the hags are the greatest evil that lurks in the Foul Bog of Eris Aman. The men of the north, vile orcs, and the silent Erunsil all avoid the Foul Bog and its haunted mists. The horrors that lurk there are not aligned to either side in the Shadow's war but serve their own dark purpose, driven by the malignant will of the hags. If mortals will not come willingly to the nightmares in the mist, then the nightmares must reach out, for none crave company and warmth more than the cursed and the dead. For this fact several of the hags have tried to take mates, spawning more evil as their curses transformed others as they had been twisted ages before... It is likely that the Hag in the Gator Marshes was a remenant of a Hag transforming a male elf, who then transformed other female elves of his own... a sort of "daughter" to the seven hags of Eris Aman

Eranon / Steve[edit]

Eranon "Of course you may examine me. I pray you find some cure for this. I can feel what's happening, I know. I hope that we reach Vrolk before this takes me entirely. If I succumb, you may have to kill me. But if you can contain me, take me to Hamlet, they may be able to help. Look for an Listener (whisper adept) named Isiki if he is even there."

Steve With the help of the dragon, Eranon recovered all ability by the time the pact was drawn on his back. Wisdom was the big one, everything else was just 1 or 2 points. Has Eranon had any halucinations or pains of blood?

QUESTIONS/Thoughts and Notes - Asked & Answered

  • [STEVE] With the help of the dragon, Eranon recovered all ability by the time the pact was drawn on his back. Wisdom was the big one, everything else was just 1 or 2 points.
    • [A]: : Eranon Initially Failed: DC 15 Fort SV, and took 1d4 Str. and 1d4 Con. The DC is Constitution based. The Wisdom drain was seperate. I knew the dragon helped to heal the Wisdom damage. Did I not have you do the Str/Con lose at the time? The Dragon should NOT have been able to heal the Str/Con drains. Not sure what I did...  :)
  • [STEVE] Has Eranon had any halucinations or pains of blood?
    • [A]: No. Not yet... ;)

Eranon / Steve[edit]

Steve I thought it was healed at a rate of 1 per night of rest, which I did.

Did I read something wrong?

Kevin[edit]

QUESTIONS/Thoughts and Notes - Asked & Answered

  • [A]: No. I don't think you "read" anything wrong. I think you just assumed that it WOULD heal... Or I incorrectly confirmed it would. If you had Str/Con damage it should not have healed (yet). The Disease and Other effect that Kyuad would have mentioned is causing this. The Wisdom WAS healed by the Dragon's song. We won't worry about it messing up this past session, but I do want you to track it for future sessions. If you don't recall what you had, we will reroll the damage at the begining of next session.

Eranon / Steve[edit]

Steve I'm sorry, I thought all ability damage healed at the rate of 1 per day, as per the rule I looked up in the PBH. I even recall asking the group at large if that was right before doing it. And yes, I do have the original damage written. I was -2 str, -3 con, and -2 Cha. You said str and con would not heal, would the cha heal or is it the same deal as str and con?

Kyuad / Bill[edit]

Kyuad: "This is more serious than I thought" (Kyuad shares information found in the Lorebook - thanks Kevin!) "What I had previously assumed was a simple lack of hygiene may indeed be a fatal infliction. I'll tend to you as I can, but I'm not sure how much good it will do."

  • Kyuad performs a Heal check (don't forget the +1 Wis modifier from the mirror breaking) to give Eranon a chance at resisting the "disease" next time he needs to (as per the Heal skill's treat disease action, detailed in the core rules). Even if it's ineffectual.

Kyuad: "Give me some time to prepare and I will have a more mystical solution to try. Though the Shadow's influence on this area makes magic extremely difficult and taxing, it may be our best hope. Though my fear is that this is beyond my learning and the only cure can be found at the Academy."

  • Kyuad is going to keep poring over his lorebook as he works to study a new spell. He is looking for any indication, possibly in other entries, for how to remove an infliction similar to the Hag's curse. Does Kyuad think that dispel magic might remove the infliction?

Kevin[edit]

QUESTIONS/Thoughts and Notes - Asked & Answered

  • [A]: STEVE: Sorry for the misunderstanding Steve. During a game things like that happen sometimes. I mispoke if I told you otherwise. My apologies. However - YES, the Charisma damage WOULD have healed normally. Strength and Constitution should STILL be down -2/-3 until "cured".
  • [A]: KYUAD: The second Heal check is still ineffectual. This isn't a natural Disease, this is a conjuration or curse of sorts...
  • [A]: KYUAD: ROLL: Kyuad (Spellcraft +13+1 mirror bonus) ROLLED: 12+13 = 25
You can use dispel magic to end ongoing spells that have been cast on a creature or object, to temporarily suppress the magical abilities of a magic item, to end ongoing spells (or at least their effects) within an area, or to counter another spellcaster’s spell. A dispelled spell ends as if its duration had expired. Some spells, as detailed in their descriptions, can’t be defeated by dispel magic. Dispel magic can dispel (but not counter) spell-like effects just as it does spells. Dispell Magic may cancel the effects temporarily... Kyuad would want to do a Targeted Dispel: One object, creature, or spell is the target of the dispel magic spell. You make a dispel check (1d20 + your caster level, maximum +10) against the spell or against each ongoing spell currently in effect on the object or creature. The DC for this dispel check is 11 + the spell’s caster level. If you succeed on a particular check, that spell is dispelled; if you fail, that spell remains in effect. (We can check this at the beginning of next game session, it's a roll I want to make in-game. This WILL NOT cancel the effect entirely but it may relieve it, staving off new checks week to week if cast.)
    ROLL: Kyuad (Lorebook +8) ROLLED: 18+8 = 26

Somewhere in the recesses of Kyuad's Lorebook he finds a notation about the Bog Hags of Eris Aman and their cursed progeny... It's a sad story of Elves being twisted into something unlike Elfkin. The specific story referred to in your book talks about a Danisil that was twisted and found his own way into the darkest Aruun looking for a cure but being driven mad and ended up making deals with demons before going into the service of an elven princess called Lloth. This is what Eranon is becoming... In the end Kyuad experiments, researches and learns that this disease/magic effect is actually a specialized "Bestow Curse" called a Curse of Rotting that is meant to drain the ELVIN victim to the core (1d4 Str, Con & Wis, but no more than -6 total, reaccuring once per week after cast), when these ability scores are each drained the victim turns into a Bog Hag. Further, Kyuad deduces that this curse cannot be dispelled, but it can be removed with a break enchantment, limited wish, miracle, remove curse, or wish spell.
    ~enjoy~

Eranon / Steve[edit]

Steve No, its fine, sorry for the misunderstanding as well, I just didn't know enough to ask. I now see (after combing the book) that there is a difference between ability damage and ability drain, but the distinction was unknown to me at the time.

Kevin[edit]

No worries Steve. It was miscommunication on both parts.
CLOSED
Unless there is some additional point that is different/important, this Bluebook session is CLOSED. (ie. no more xp from it).

Kyuad / Bill[edit]

  • Kyuad is now going to plan on making a scroll of remove curse in order to attempt to cast the spell. As it is a spell he doesn't know, he has to reference one of the spellbooks he has. It's going to require some time to scribe this scroll, which may mean another few days.

Kyuad: "Do your best to guard your health as we travel, Eranon. I won't let you succumb to the Hag's curse, friend. I'll find a way. In a day or two, I should have something prepared that may do the trick. Though, if I am not successful, you might need to go straight to Hamlet to see if the Academy there can help you somehow."
