BRP simplified.

Use BRP stats, combat systems, hp (inc locations) and skills

Characters have skills based on their categories [6]

Powers are rolled on V&V tables.

Skills - There are 6 skill categories
Characters add to these with professions, backgrounds and styles.

These are clusters of skills (chosen by the characters) that act as bonuses to a skill category roll. Each PBS allows six specialities to be chosen that fit the profession in the view of the player and GM.
A character might have profession: Investigative Journalist at +40%. This adds 40% to any skill roll involving designated specialties within the profession.
Example: A journo might take writing, live reporting, investigation and endurance to start with, leaving a couple of slots open for later.
