He had settled in with a crew he worked with regularly and they were sort of like a family, living, working, traveling together. This all came to an end when a faulty hydrogen cell burst in the ships reactor. The company had skimped on safety measures and bought fuel cells from a discount company that sold counterfeit or salvaged fuel cells with no maintenance or quality control. The safety systems failed and the whole crew died. Ali only survived because he was outside working on the hull repairs.
