			In the Empire of Syrinx there is an island called Helekia. The eastern side of this island is designated as the Region of Death, a place devoted to all that decays and passes. Deep in the forests of East Helekia there is a primitive tribe called the Gru Gru. The Gru Gru, while highly mystical, believe the use of healing magic is "cheating" and will not cast healing spells. They have therefore been forced to develop other methods to treat their sick such as herbal medicines and alchemy. Using magic to heal is strictly forbidden, on pain of death. Ama-Dee Mbali was born into this tribe.<br><br>

			Ama-Dee's mother died when he was six, old enough for him to remember her but not old enough to move along easily without her. The most powerful witch doctors in his village - called Sangomas - were rumored to be able to walk with the dead. Hoping to see his mother again, Ama-Dee decided at a young age that, instead of becoming a warrior when he became an adult, he would instead become a Sangoma (witch doctor). Only a few were selected to train to be Sangomas and of those not all passed the final test.<br><br>

			Ama-Dee worked very hard to gain the attention and respect of the Sangoma masters, eventually earning his place as a student. The process of becoming a Sangoma is much longer than that of a warrior, so he lived the life of a typical Gru Gru tribesman at this time, eventually marrying a pretty wife and having a daughter.<br><br>

			It was well into his twenties when it was finally decided that Ama-Dee would endure his final test. This test was always highly secret and unknown to the rest of the tribe. Ama-Dee was taken deep into the forest to begin his trial. What he didn't know was that while he was travelling, the Sangoma teachers took his young daughter from his home and beat her to the point of death. She was then left in the woods for Ama-Dee to find.<br><br>

			Ama-Dee's heart was torn in half as he saw his daughter's broken body, but he knew the healing spells that would instantly bring her back to health were out of the question. Instinctively he searched around for plants he could use to treat her, but there was nothing that could help her before death took her. Remembering his dead mother, Ama-Dee gave in out of desperation and cast several healing spells on his daughter. Immediately several of the Sangoma leaders emerged from the shadows. As it turned out, the real test was to see if Ama-Dee could obey the laws of the tribe and the Sangoma, even in the face of his daughter's death. Ama-Dee had failed.<br><br>

			Ama-Dee was dragged back to the village and put on display to be jeered and insulted. His own wife walked up to him and spit on him. Throughout all of this his daughter stood in the background, weeping.<br><br>

			He was then dragged to the most desolate part of East Helekia and abandoned there. With nothing to his name, he dragged himself barely surviving to the Necropolis.
