	In her youth Princess Deirdre was a militant daughter in a militant family. King Oberon, and princes Benedict, Eric, and Corwin were the main defenders of Amber in the field and Deirdre grew up among them, becoming a warrior herself. Relegated to home defense she created and developed the [[Civilian City Cohorts]]. Her estate east of Jal, Crankle's Hollows, and the city estate of ~~Bright Edge~~ became regular training grounds for the CCC. 			The fortification of bright edge is one of many such compounds around the city walls of the City of Amber. From the days when Oberon, Osric, Findow, Benedict, and Borlak built the ring of curtain walls and fortification around the city there have bee towers and compounds for various military reasons. Eric and Corwin did extensive supporting construction.

			When the militant daughter of Oberon, Dierdre, was growing up she often played in this particular fort. As she grew in military skill she was often teased by her older brothers but in time the teasing gave way.
