	Ike was retired from the military shortly before Z-day. After battling some major depression (an Airman is all he'd ever wanted to be and was part of his identity). He started to return to some semblance of normalcy. No longer allowed to fly real aircraft for the military, Ike got into the civilian flight side of things, as a hobbyist. When the outbreak happened things went south surprisingly fast, as the military started to become overwhelmed, and drawn thin, Ike volunteered his services once more. Reporting to the base near his home (Davis Monthan) where he'd previously been stationed as a Helo pilot, Ike was soon pressed into ~~flyinger~~ service. As time went by and repairs and maintenance became harder and harder on the birds at the base, Ike eventually started using his personal autogyro for missions. Eventually even ladybird started to fall into ~~repair~~, so with the help of the remaining crew chiefs and maintenance personnel, he started to replace parts with what was available in the Boneyard. 	She survived the initial virus with just her strong immunity, but when she realized the whole pandemic, she packed everything that was in the school laboratory (that she could muster) and stuffed them in a van and went hiding in a WW2 bunker her neighbor and friend Carl had prepared (he was planning it for a nuclear apocalypse, but, hey an apocalypse is an apocalypse). She spent the first year within that, listening to radio, doing a bit scavenging etc. But then her neighbor died (old age) and turned. He was like a father to her and she had to shoot through his head. It was time to move on. 'Uncle' Carl's legacy was to teach her to shoot and maintain weaponry, also many survival skills. 			Like a Zombie Gorilla, for example. That's a tragic tale of low food stocks and poor choice of executioner as well as sub-committee dithering. "Mother Fucking Zoology Department of Humboldt State University! Nobody gets paid enough to deal with a zombie gorilla and a dozen dead whitecoats who should have known better..."

			She's friendly, but a bit weird to begin with, as the harder she denied any strange powers of healing or animal understanding, the more the whispers of her being some kind of witch went around (Not helped by one of the 'Bolter U mystics claiming she was the reincarnated Diane Fossey or some shit like that). Laurie's given up trying to correct a useful myth, and just works with it. For folks so rooted in hard science, it only took a few years to bring out the weirdo in many of them, but as it's of a mostly benevolent treehugger hippie variety, she tolerates the nonsense.

			Laurie met the rest of the group when Orion investigated the others and drew their attention to Laurie's meatwagon with assorted sorcerous and shamanic sigils and gang tags of passage for San Dee and various bits of the Cali coast's various groups added to it's paintjob, and a horse skull bolted to the front fender (Complete with solar powered red glowing eyes under the right conditions!) as sign of her trade as "Iron Horse Doctor".

			Someone in San Dee pointed a gun at Orion in front of Laurie once to try to intimidate her into working for them. They're missing a hand after that stunt, or so some of the whispers say, while others claim it's their balls she keeps in a jar now...

			"Well, at least it keeps people from trying to steal my coffee jar!" is all Laurie has to say on that one. ;)
