During this time Nika and Kiera visit the town of Lane's Ferry, a small fishing village some distance from the Flotilla. They discover that the town has more than a few women who've come out to marry a fisherman. They buy some scrimshaw, and eventually are led to the Lane's Ferry Sewing Circle. They arrive, ready to sew and glean some gossip. They discover the sewing circle is, in fact, a regular tall card session. They play a few hands, loose a little money, and broach the subject of women brought to the town. They find their welcome is worn through with this line of questioning, but eventually they discover that June Jendricks, nee June Barriak, is in the circle ad happily married (easy enough with hubby is gone nine monthes out of the year). The women in the sewing circle were worried that Nika and Kiera were part of the JJB, and aiming to claim June. Everything was settled, and they left poorer but pleased to see she had done okay. Joshua discovered the parents of another girl and got a photo to help find her in the future.
