Eyalla, Priestess of Quixa

Eyalla was born a slave in the service of the Cult of Quixa, dedicated to the worship of their Serpentine God of Secrets, Venom, and Regeneration. And as a slave she would have remained, perhaps to at best become an exotic acolyte dancer in the service of a high priest, but for a strange mark that appeared upon her back - the mark of Quixa, two great symmetrical fangs. Startled by this, her master attempted to downplay the mark, but a devout member of the priest caste discovered it and demanded that Eyalla be tested. Either she was to be a sacrifice to Quixa or she would become his chosen servant. And so she was brought before the high alter and given a chalice filled with a mix of the most potent poisons known to mankind. As Quixa's domain included toxins, if she survived the draught, she would be proven to be his chosen vessel.

The drink nearly killed her - but just as the priests were about to order her body dragged away, she tensed, rose her head up and screamed with a terrible will. From that moment on, Eyalla was no longer a slave, and was indoctrinated into the cult's secrets. She was given an education, taught to read and write, and to brew simple potions and poisons. Next she was given over to the cult's warrior caste, and trained as a serpentine warrior. Through both her mental and physical education, she excelled as much as the priests had hoped, and finally upon her 18th summer, she was presented to the priesthood, to take her vows before the god that had chosen her as its will worker. Her body was tattooed in the many signs of the serpent - proudly displaying her faith, which is almost universally distrusted outside of the cult.
