Jacqueline and Maria are walking home after an evening out when they notice they are being followe by some unsavory characters. Jacqueline suggests they try to evade their followers by ducking unexpectdly into an alley. The plan backfires and the women must fight their way out. Maria uses her cane sword and Jacqueline uses her pistol. Both women are lucky in that their weapons do damage enough to kill those who wished to kill them.

Several of their attackers are straight up thugs, possibly from the Apache street gang currently terrorizing Paris. However, several are not thuggish at all: two are women, one of whom is what seems to be a mage, and yet a third person is a man. All three are unknown to Maria and Jacqueline. Some of the thugs have no taste for the fight Maria and Jacqueline put up and flee. The better dressed non-thugs persist in their attack and when the fight comes to an end, the man is dead on Maria's sword and the mage woman has her head blown clean off by Jacquie's gun.

Whistles from the Gendarmes sound in the distance and Maria and Jacqueline get the hell out of the alley for home. They make it back to their shared flat without further mishap and count themselves lucky.
