With the shutting down of the lab by the Ripper, the company had to find other means of making "super beings" for the government. They decided to try to isolate the "X-gene" and see if they could harness its power without making a mutant.''

He had learned that the "X-gene" tapped into a dimensional power source that would be altered by the human when the gene was activated.
