New page

=AGON'S REPRIEVE=
aka "Ring of the Guardian"

Paladin's Ring - Covenent Item of the 1st Age.

===Background===
In the years before the Shadow in the North blighted the Kaladrun
Clan Thedron - the House of Moria had for generations been the
official guardians of the last promise of hope and strength, a rally
call to Dwarves - the massive HAMMER HORN upon which Moria sat. A
great and mysterious Nexus of Power built by many Grand Dor long
gone, built from the heart of Fire Peak itself. The horn must be
kept safe and hidden to one day, long from now, rally the Army of the
Just.

In those times before Shadow the oldest male of the clan would be a
personal guardian to the horn, watching and managing the lifebreath
of Hammer Horn. In the last days Agon of Thedron Clan a powerful
enchanter and fierce warrior, but a paranoid dwarf came to the seat
of responsibility.

The ring had grown with it's many generations, handed down dwarf to
drarf. Leaving each one with a longer life and good health. As
useful as this item would come to be Agon's paranoia lead him to
invest enchantments on the ring that make the item "problematic" to
the next wearer...

The Ring of the Guardian is the silver signet ring to Clan Thedron -
the House of Moria and only manifests its powers to one of Good and
Lawful intent. When put on the ring begins it's life sustaining
effects. Once a character puts on the ring, he becomes the Guardian
of Dwarven hope and is unable to remove it, until the Guardian is
ready to give up his duty and leave the word. To do so the wearer
must recite the LOST command phrase "Agone Begone" in Old Dwarven. A
power word spell has been placed on the ring and will allow the ring
to be removed. For the purposes of such a spell, Agone was a 22nd
level channeler when he made the ring. (see accidental curse below)

===Abilities===

====1st:====
The ring identifies the bearer, citing back names of his
Guardian forefather generations. Also, if an Heir Clan Thedron - the
House of Moria is alive the ring feels a bit warm on the finger; if
the Heir is dead, the ring is cool. Agone's Reprieve is a ring of
sustenance (DMG 233), it allows the wearer to sustain himself on a
minimum of 2 hours sleep per day (this does not include spell
preperation). It also allows the wearer to survive without food for
long durations, making a Will Save DC 15 once a week or crave food,
and a Fortitude Save once per month or begin suffering from
Starvation as normal.

====2nd:====
The ring has the ability to sense the presence of Dwarven
allies in number and general proximity as well as life conditions at
a range equal to the wearer's level in miles. The wearer of the ring
gains the ability to Spider Climb (as the spell) and Prestidigitation
(as the spell), originally for cleaning and maintaining the Hammer
Horn.

====4th:====
At will, the wearer can use detect evil (as the spell).

====5th:====
The wearer may Smite Evil ONCE per day, he may attempt to smite
evil with one normal melee attack. he adds his Charisma bonus (if
any) to her attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per level.
If she accidentally smites a creature that is not evil, the smite has
no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. At every
five levels hereafter, the wearer may smite evil one additional time
per day, to a maximum of four times per day at 20th level.

====7th:====
The wearer stops aging and has no further need of food, but may
still eat for enjoyment. The wearer of the ring may Discern Lies (as
the spell) at 3 times per day.

====10th:====
The wearer may cast Greater Teleport (as the spell) per month,
to return from any location to the Hammer Horn, below the Ashen
Caverns under Fire Peak in the Central Kaladrun Mts. This is the
ONLY location available to this ability.

===NOTE:===
'''Code of Conduct''' - the wearer must be of lawful good alignment
and loses all class abilities if he ever willingly commits an evil
act. Additionally, the wearer's code requires that he respect
legitimate authority, act with honor (not lying, not cheating, not
using poison, and so forth), help those in need (provided they do not
use the help for evil or chaotic ends), and punish those who harm or
threaten innocents. Associates: While he may adventure with
characters of any good or neutral alignment, the wearer will never
knowingly associate with evil characters, nor will he continue an
association with someone who consistently offends his moral code.

'''Accidental Curse''' - In an attempt to aid his people Agone inbued the
ring with the ability to sustain and lengthen the wearer's life. On
his death Agon's essense propelled the ring to give life everlasting
in an unnatural way. The Wearer's life is naturally extended to
twice that normal to the species, beyond that the wearer becomes
Fell! However the mysterious abilities of the ring actually allow
the wearer to continue with his mind intact as the first level of
becoming a Fell. For all intents and purposes he becomes a fully
fed/sustained Fell (undead). When the ring is removed he reverts to
normal Fell status having needed to feed since putting the ring on.
On every occasion since Agone wore the ring, this has meant the
wearer crumbed to dust.
