			Who knows that the monsters are sons of the old mayor ? Many locals, who believe that the two monsters are sons and daughters of the old burgermeister .

			The old Burgermeister was Peter Winter , a local man who rose in the nworld through the army. The son of a local tailor, he went to war against Napoleon , as jeager soldier, winning fame by shooting a French general's horse form under him. He was also lamed (some say castrated ) by an artillery blast. Nevertheless he returned a hero, and became rich using his father's business to supply excellent uniforms for his old Jeager regiment (he in fact became rich as a merc to the Ottomans, training them to use modern rifles during the Serbian uprising ) . Much to the annoyance of the Nachtberg's semi-hereditary Burgermeisters , he was elected to that position, marrying a beautiful Serbian wife, who had been destined to enter an Orthodox nunnery. he found her while doing business in Serbia and convinced her not to take her final vows, but instead to return to Nachtberg as his bride. The woman was of course cursed by God for 'renouncing' her vows, so the children became monsters. The girl, retiring and fearful, the boy aggressive and strong like his father. By puberty their monstrous chacretr had become known and each departed for the wilds-the daughter to the castle, the son to the forest. <br/>

			In fact the story told by the author is true-only anachronistic and removed from historical context to conceal the truth- the couple were cursed by the local priest when he learned of his secret merc work for the Ottomans. The teacher, a Serb , hated him for his role training Ottoman Janissaries. the nun, in anger, turned to the Devil Himself to sire two sons. <br/>

She lay with the Prince of Darkness and sired a new line. The time of this seems vague. In one story he is fighting the saracens in the Holy Land in a chivalrous tale, in another riding in the defence of Vienna against the Turks hundreds of years later.
