Every character gains a racial trait at first level and at every 5th level. The tradition you get to select depends on the race and starting location you’ve chosen.

You may choose to delay your choice of a racial tradition, but only for a single character level. Racial traditions require no training, and are gained as soon as a tradition is chosen.
