One of the most important themes of Accursed is the concept of either accepting or defying your monstrous nature. As such, there are three stages each for Acceptance or Defiance of your Witchmark. Acceptance makes you more powerful, but also more of a monster, distancing you further from humanity as you accept your curse. Defiance causes you to become weaker, but also makes you more human, until finally you throw off the curse completely and shatter the Witchmark, becoming human once again with a a few bonuses.
