Shingdu is a Chinese colony, a small world with 2 million people in one colony. The local environment isn't too bad, at least not near the two seas which lie in deep impact craters, but is still too dry for successful agriculture.

The colony is essentially a Chinese Navy and Army base with vaguely civilian settlements attached for families and support workers. As such they are very picky about security. This isn't done in an overtly hostile way, but plenty of tedious forms, insistence on 'tour guides' and minders, censorship of any media material taken onto or off the planet make it clear that visitors are not welcome, and most people stick to the starport's visitors precinct.

The local fleet is pretty impressive for this corner of the galaxy, with a couple of the latest TL12 carriers in orbit, plus a good dozen cruisers and frigates. Local shipyards can turn out TL10 small craft. scouts and frigates, which are often fitted with imported TL12 weaponry.
