Polar Opposite of Normalcy
There are people who homeschool because they want to protect their children's love of learning from the assembly line model of education.

And there are people who homeschool because they don't want their child to be taught silly things like "evolution" or "other ways of living exist, actually".

The Misyndexes fall somewhere in between. While Miran is more socially acclimated then his siblings and parents, there's still a significant divergence between what is normal for his life, and what is normal for most other people. And sometimes that creates misunderstandings.

Shifting Universal Constants
A lot of magical law and arcane formula was not always as fixed and inevitable as it appears to us now. Some of the rules we take for granted and hold to so dearly could have been very different. Things may be set in stone now, but there was a time when the stone was still being carved.

So then, what happens if you move to another universe? A new what if? Perhaps then, the formulae are different. Some vast power struggle between astronomical cosmic entities at the dawn of time ended differently, and now spellcraft has different limitations, or different capabilities. Could prove frustrating at times.

A family bloodline supposedly stemming from an ancient blessing from Mithra, the Family Name of Misyndex has long been known to beast and warlock alike.
