The Multiverse. It exists. We've seen it. Well, not everyone, just the select few and it was pretty much by accident, or was it?

In a remote part of the world (Antarctica at the moment) some explorers stumbled across an ancient metropolis from a civilization long gone. It was the home of a Nexus, a chaotic wormhole tethered to the city that flails across space, time and other universes like a kite in a storm.

The explorers accidentally activated the Nexus and it started to do it's job. At odd intervals, sometimes weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years, the Nexus wormhole would scoop up some sentients and deposit them in the city, usually a couple of hundred at a time. It's a one way ticket, so far no one has discovered a way of safely traversing the wormhole from our end.

It is 100 years later, the city is controlled by an international agency that is responsible for thousands of different aliens that have no idea why they are here. We don't know why they are here either, but while they are here we may as well make use of the ones that can do the super stuff.
