Dave's a foreign student-- a very large, very strong American. His father is a computer programmer skilled in older languages like FORTRAN and COBOL, and works for a big Japanese company, adopting their ancient software and hardware to work with modern standards while keeping their old records intact. His mother has taken to teaching English to Japanese college students on the side.

Dave is calm and mellow, and works hard to stay that way-- he's very, very strong indeed, trained as an SCA fighter, and could easily seriously injure or kill someone if he let his temper get the better of him, so he keeps any anger he feels under very tight control. Rawhead (Who looks like a scraped-raw gigantic hog's head with staring yellow eyes on top of a bloody skeleton, with panther's teeth, a bear's claws, and a gigantic raccoon tail, wearing incongruous blue overalls. Rawhead's size is remarkably fluid-- it grows tremendously to attack.) represents all the things about Dave that he tries to repress-- his anger, his desire for revenge against people who wrong him, his love of combat, and his southern heritage and accent. Rawhead is fairly talkative, and gives Dave advice. Not necessarily good advice, but not always bad advice, either.

Motivation: Doing Good. Dave really does want to help his friends and family, and he's very loyal to anyone who's been close to him.

Glaringly Gaijin: Some foreigners can blend in. Not Dave-- he's gigantic, not merely tall, but broad-shouldered and incredibly muscular. He has a thick accent, can't get the hang of local customs, and just can't manage to fit in no matter what he does.

Gentle Giant: Dave has been "the biggest and the strongest" for most of his life, and he had to learn at a young age to not hurt people and break things. As a result, he's normally very careful to not damage things or people, and will turn the other cheek to a lot of abuse if he's the only target.

Family Focused: Dave is very, very loyal to his family-- it's why he followed in his geeky father's footsteps and joined the SCA (albeit as a stick-jock) rather than the football team. His little sister, Jen, is 14 and highly impulsive. He needs to watch out for her... and if someone hurts her, all those carefully-built inhibitions about using his strength will go out the window in a flash.
