Less than a month as a permanent resident. I first visited about two years ago, early in my training.

Apparently the manner of my arrival (in that I seized someone else's sanctum and made it my own) seems to have upset some powerful people, and I'm using the term "people" loosely. Maintaining the magical defenses here takes a lot of attention to detail and I'm often worried I've missed something.

My father disowned me for not taking over the family business and my mother for trucking with unnatural creatures, and I betrayed my teacher to gain access to his power. Now it seems I can't go back without compromising my situation here.

Allies. It seems power and talent isn't enough to earn you security here, and so far I have been unable to make myself useful to anyone with real pull.
