I remember the day well, mother came in with a worried look on her face.

I only noticed because I was facing the door. Vasily was sitting opposite of me we were just doing some concentration practicing.
Mother always said it looked like something out of a horror flick.
Never got that reference, she said she would show us one day and that we could do nothing else then agree.

I rested the rocks we were pushing bsck and forth between us on the ground. Only then Vasily looked up.

"Mother what is wrong? Has it started?"

Mother had told us one day this world would fade away.
She shook her head.

She smiles hugging us both. The moment lasts a while. Might have been shorter but it felt this was an important moment. I inhaled my mother's scent. It always brought me comfort.

It went on for days, weeks, i lost track of time. Or maybe time had just less meaning.

I dedicated my time on studies and practicing. Mother always said i had a knack for reaching beyond.

Vasily tended to the gardens to grow our food. He always had a knack for the living and the roots within our world.

I was deep in meditation mother asked me to seek beyond for some things. Bring it forth, as we were not able to go into the towns.

The door burst open and as i had held on to what i was bringing forth, instead of pulling it towards me. I pulled myself partially beyond the veil.

They saw me a shimmer. But could not touch me.

I saw Vasily and my mother being dragged away.

I screamed, cried, cursed.

My mothers voice sounded like she stood next to me, a whisper in my ear.

I stopped breathing for a moment untill my lungs were aching. Then i cried a heart wrenching cry.

After the people had left i pulled myself back to the world.
I found mothers books and threw up walls and wards, protections and defenses. None would come near me again.

With mothers staff i was able to focus my vision. I saw them burn. On one of the magicfields.
I cursed the people under my breath. My friend and now only companion Kirova stood next to me.

"It is you and me now my friend."

Years went by. The hurt faded a bit.
So when a distraught young woman came to my hut i was curious enough to not push her down the path right away.

Her child was sick. No doctor could help her. If i could please.
For a price everything is possible. She now carries a burned handprint on her chest over her heart. But her child is fine and healthy.

Over the years more and more dared to come up. Some i denied and cast down. Some i granted their request. People accepted my price. A burned handprint over their hearts.
