AFAIK, this is how things work for the Uldish:&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
* if you&amp;#039;re not a guild member, you&amp;#039;re effectively a serf and have no rights; ie if you&amp;#039;re not a guild member, you probably work for one&lt;br /&gt;
* if you&amp;#039;re a guild member, you are represented politically by your regional Guild authority. If you&amp;#039;re a member of the Blacksmiths in Rauf&amp;#039;s Gift, your local guild representative is your immediate superior, your tax-collector, and your judge/jury/executioner for internal guild matters&lt;br /&gt;
* when Guilds come into conflict, local-level disputes (Tanners are dumping waste into the river, which affects the Brewers&amp;#039; trade!) are resolved by the mayor, who is appointed by the Senate (or Council, can&amp;#039;t remember) in Uldholm. At the level of interceding with the mayor, your guild representative stops being judge/jury and becomes your lawyer.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
