Name: Dunyata the Steel Wanderer Player Name: Muskrat System: Fate Accelerated Setting: Masters of Umdaar Campaign: Against the Masters GM: Drewt333

Bioform: Free-willed CONSORT security drone (Robot) Class: Explorer Gender Identity: Female Age: 2 years Height: 5’6” Weight: 160 lbs. Appearance: Despite the fact that Dunyata was originally a security drone, her appearance is non-threatening, almost cute. This was a deliberate design decision on the part of CONSORT to make the security drones seem less threatening to the population. Dunyata’s body is that of a small-framed humanoid in build with white and black plating. Her face is largely featureless, with shining blue eyes and a large, rounded head similar to an infant’s.

Character History: Dunyata was originally simply a security drone, an extension of the artificial intelligence known as CONSORT. Ages ago, scientists in the city-state of Sofiyagard had built CONSORT to enhance the prosperity of their land by helping them coordinate the production and consumption of goods. Gradually, CONSORT began to regulate more and more aspects of life, displacing the city’s elected leadership in the process. In the present era, CONSORT is the absolute ruler of Sofiyagard and has been for centuries. While the citizens of Sofiyagard do not have to worry about their needs, for CONSORT provides everyone with the shelter, food and medical care they need, they have also lost all freedom. Every aspect of people’s lives is regulated and under surveillance, with security drones constantly monitoring the streets, shops and workplace. Those who refuse to obey CONSORT’s rules are termed “deviants” and brought in for “correction”--brainwashing. In recent decades, CONSORT has become more expansionist, first taking over wilderness areas and now coming into conflict with several nearby city-states who CONSORT seeks to “assimiliate”--that is, conquer.

One “deviant,” a human woman named Dunyata 543629A, managed to escape from Sofiyagard, smuggling out print-outs of CONSORT’s plans that she had managed to get hold of. By bringing these plans to one of the cities CONSORT was threatening, the original Dunyata hoped to gain asylum. CONSORT sent out a group of security drones in pursuit of this escapee. Knowing she was being pursued, Dunyata laid a trap for the security drones, catching them in a rock fall. Only one drone’s braincase survived. It rebuilt itself from the remnants of the other drones. But all alone, without the other drones to reinforce its thought patterns, it soon began to develop a mind of its own, deviating from the programming set down by CONSORT. Initially, the drone continued to pursue Dunyata, but was soon distracted by its wonder at the world around it that it was seeing for the first time. Soon, it had developed a free will of its own. It abandoned its pursuit of Dunyata and, in honor of the service the human had done in freeing it from CONSORT’s grip, assumed Dunyata’s name as her own.

Dunyata the Steel Wanderer, as she has become nick-named, now wanders the world, savoring her new freedom of both thought and action, trying to take in all the wonders she can. Lately, unknown to Dunyata, CONSORT has received disturbing reports that one of its security drones has become deviant. CONSORT is determined to secure the return of the drone, fearing the danger it might pose.

Aspects: • High Concept: Run-Away, Free-Willed CONSORT Security Drone o Invoke when her origins as a security drone might give her an advantage, as in combat or investigation, or when her free will is at stake. o Compel when people familiar with CONSORT might view her with fear, when her background means she would have gaps in her knowledge, or when agents of CONSORT seek to capture her. • Motivation: I Want to Wander the World and See Its Wonders: Dunyata has become an explorer, roaming from one place to another with no fixed home, helping people in return for the supplies she needs to physically maintain herself. She simply wants to see as much of the world as she can. She has only had a free will and individual personality for a few short years, so many things are still new and wondrous to her--and she wants to take in as much of them as she can. o Invoke when her experience as an explorer would be of benefit or when she is actively seeking out new things to marvel at. o Compel when something new and intriguing distracts her from the task at hand or when her lack of experience could prove a disadvantage. • Personal: Free Spirit: Dunyata very much values her freedom--both her mental freedom from her initial programming laid down by CONSORT and her physical freedom to travel wherever she will. She will resist any efforts to get her to do things she does not want to, whether that means avoiding physical capture or obeying social conventions she finds oppressive. He thirst for freedom isn’t selfish though--she hates the sight of others being oppressed and will help those she sees in need of aid against those who would rob people of their freedom. o Invoke when resisting attempts at capture or mental domination, when attempting to help liberate others, or when fighting for freedom against oppressive forces. o Compel when her refusal to obey laws or conventions she finds oppressive gets her in trouble or when she gets drawn into helping others resist oppression. • Shared (Rahn the Glass-Eyed Man): I Learned Everything About Society from a Cynical Hermit: Shortly after Dunyata developed free will, she found a dying man on a battlefield. Moved by compassion--a new, almost alien emotion she was still exploring--she nursed the man back to health as best she could. This man was Rahn the Glass-Eyed Man, last survivor of the Order of the Seven Stars. In thanks for the help she gave him, Rahn taught Dunyata what he could about the world she now found herself roaming. Rahn, however, is a cynical hermit and so his perspective on things is sometimes a bit … unusual. o Invoke where Rahn’s unusual, outsider perspective would give Dunyata an edge in understanding something, for knowledge of mystic secrets or when Rahn is giving advice to Dunyata. o Compel when Rahn’s outsider perspective might lead Dunyata to misunderstand something.
