''Jade Dragons'' are found mostly in the cold pine forests of the North. Throughout much of this woodland, the trees are long dead and petrified, and those that do grow are withered looking. They have abandoned the ways of their parent breed, and tend towards a solitary existence. Part of this is from a desire to be as different as possible from the Forest Dragons, and part is from the sense of disconcertion that Jade Dragons experience in each others company.

Their way of life and their lack of education means that their brutal existence is perpetuated, generation after generation. Around two thirds of Jade Dragons have found their way to the Ascendancy (where they are valued for their sorcerous acumen), with the remainder leading isolated existences far from any faction. Age Of Dragons: Main Page -> The Twelve Breeds -> Jungle Dragons

The Innocent Sinners

Descended from a branch of Forest Dragons, the Jungle Dragons exist in the vast unnamed tropical rainforests that lie to the Southwest of the Heart Forest.

While still recognisably sharing a common ancestry, Jungle Dragons have changed over the ages into a distinct sub-breed, with a mindset and culture that is entirely alien to the Dragons of the Heart Forest.

Character Creation: Game Rules

The above rules and background details apply to the sub-breed of "Jungle Dragons".

The progenitor breed of Forest Dragons are covered separately, as are the corrupted Jade Dragons.

Sphere Ratings

  • Soma 4
  • Sophis 3
  • Pneuma 5

Birthrights

Freedom of Fertility - Jungle Dragons do not suffer the birthing sickness as other dragons do.

Fecundity of Beasts - Jungle Dragons roll +3 dice with dice pools relating to conception or fertility.

Breed Weakness

Brief, Bloody Lives - Jungle Dragons do not grow more powerful as they age, instead aging and dying like mortal animals. At 90+3D6 years of age they lose -1 from Pneuma, Soma and Sophis, and lose a further -1 each D6 years afterwards. When any score hits zero, they die of old age. In senescence, a Jungle Dragon ceases to be fertile.

Physical Appearance

Jungle Dragons are superficially similar to their parent breed, but have far darker green colouration, are more heavily built, and oftem have thin red and yellow bands running along their torso. Their eyes, while still a pale yellow colour, stand out far more sharply in contrast against their darker skin.

Society and Culture

Jungle Dragons lack true society and culture, instead existing somewhat like intelligent animals. Alpha males of the breed dominate their small family groups and claim sole breeding rights with the females in their packs. There is an inherent assumption amongst Jungle Dragons that females are useful only as breeding stock, and it is not uncommon for female hatchlings to be deliberately declawed and detoothed at birth so that they can be more easily controlled when they are older.

Despite their intelligence (as with all Dragons, the Jungle Breed are considerably cleverer than humans) they tend to be happy in their atavistic state. Language is kept to a minimum, they have no appreciation of civilisation or technology, and have no over-arching cultural myths. Most have not even heard of the Mother Goddess, and instead are more concerned with day to day animal existence. Their way of life and their lack of education means that their brutal existence is perpetuated, generation after generation. Because their jungle domains are so far from the rest of the Realm (at least good month's flight from the area of Heart Forest where their parent breed lie) they remain uninfluenced by the ways of the other Draconic peoples.

A small number of Jungle Dragons have in the past been supplanted from their environment by well-meaning Forest Dragons. Inevitably this meets with failure - the Jungle Dragons seem unwilling or unable to adapt to more civilised behaviour.

Lifepaths and the Jade Dragons

The Jade tend towards arcane study, and so the majority are Scholar-Sages. A small number of Ascendancy Jades have taken up the role of Demonbinder.

Few other Lifepaths appeal to Jade Dragon psychology, though the only Lifepath they will absolutely refuse to pursue is that of the Animist Adept.

Outlook

Thirst-of-Balefire, Jade Sorceror of the Ascendancy speaks of the twelve:

  • Pure Dragons - "To their eyes we are an abomination. To hell with them - I spit on their religion, and I will burn their temples"
  • Argent Dragons - "They're organised and tough, these meatheaded ironmongers. Avoid."
  • Solar Dragons - "Blessed with pneuma, but relatively inept at sorcery. They can be disregarded."
  • Hunter Dragons - "Rabid filthy beasts. If you see one, kill it. If you see a whole pack, go get some Ascendancy back up, then kill them as well."
  • Forest Dragons - "Idiot cousins who celebrate their greatest curse as if it were a badge of honour. If they will not join us, they must die."
  • Storm Dragons - "Like us, they have metamorphosed into something different. Ultimately though, their reverence for animism and the Mother Goddess sickens me."
  • Ashen Dragons - "They have potential."
  • Velvet Dragons - "The nice thing about reduced fertility is you can sate your libido on a willing Velvet without much risk... Or an unwilling Velvet if needs be..."
  • Chimerical Dragons - "They know more than they're letting on. They are a threat."
  • Ghost Dragons - "They fear and run from the Void Beyond. We seek to master the Void Beyond. Could we be any more different?"
  • Blood Dragons - "Mindless nasty dangerous idiot thugs. Good thing they're on our side."
  • Sable Dragons - "Our Lords and Masters. For now."
