For three hundred years, the Theocracy of Jarzon has stood as a testament to purity and faith, the zeal of its priests and the strength of its knights holding back the horrors from the Veran Marsh in the west and the Shadow Barrens in the east. The people have toiled to raise crops from the unforgiving Jarzoni soil, and gathered to worship before the holy fires in the temples of the Church of the Pure Light. The priest-adepts have rooted out the corruption of sorcery and fought the abomination of Shadowspawn, using any means to ensure that the horrors of the Empire of Thorns would never return. Life was harsh, with duty and piety always out before freedom and happiness, but generation after generation, Jarzon has endured.

Until now.

Without warning, a tide of foul darkfiends came pouring out of the Shadow Barrens. Entire cities were butchered and put to the torch as the Purist Knights clashed with the dark horde and constantly found itself beaten back, forced to abandon the commoners who had trusted them for their protection. You are among those scattered survivors who were left behind, forced to struggle to protect yourself and those you care about.

At once freed from the oppressive dominion of the Church and placed in a hopeless fight for survival, will you become the hero that the ravaged land needs, or the ruthless savage that the priests always warned you that you would become without their careful shepherding?

Bitter Ashes of an Eternal Flame is a Blue Rose campaign Narrated by Baeraad.
