A character for NWoD: Mage, created by Thanatos02.

All of my characters follow the same basic rules, as noted here, though I don't expect anybody else to follow them. All of the characters are starting characters as outlined in the books. In generic books where a setting is assumed, I build a character that would fit in the setting. Where no setting is assumed, I build towards the contemporary era as the setting allows. In games that have no set point values or start character generation rules, I'll list specific guidelines built towards my assumptions of a 'beginning' or starting character.

My rules regarding fat-splats or series of games that utilize the same core mechanics is that when rules create suitably diverging types of characters, I'll construct one per setting I own. (For example, using Exalted, Dragon-Blooded and Solars are sufficiently different. In OMage, Order of Hermes and a Hollow One are not sufficiently different. In games with classes, different classes are not enough. They must essentially be different characters. Other people's opinions on what are different 'enough' really arn't my area of expertise. I build in good faith.)

In any event, should the character posted not be according to the assumed structure of the Challenge Wiki, it will be alter shortly, and was probably the result of a time crunch. Thanks! I hope you have as much fun with this as I did. ^_^

Campaign[edit]

Ivan is a poor starting character. Well, actually, he's an ok starting character, he's just 'broke'. Promethian create other Promethian, and interestingly Ivan was created by another doctor who wouldn't take death for an answer. His creator needs to create in order to continue on his pilgrimage and Ivan was dying anyhow, so into the wood-chipper he went and when he came out of the operation, he managed to be missing an ear. Well, we had some leftover parts.

Ivan doesn't have any money and he doesn't have a group. All he has is his knowledge and a squat, but he can't go back to medicine because his bedside manner is 'awful'. Disquiet doesn't do much for peoples health. He's either the thinker and medic of a larger group or an NPC to patch up other Promethian. It's a fair trade for some income and material goods, after all...

He doesn't have any medical equipment on hand. That's intentional. Where are you going to get it with no money? Well, he can't fight for crap either. What do you expect? First do no harm...

Character Description[edit]

Ivan is a thinker, and he's got the capabilities to do it. His area of expertise feeds naturally into Cuprum but he's got no offensive capabilities at all. No magic wizard lasers, no titanic strength, nothing. For NWoD levels, he's not unable to get around socially, so that's not too bad. With the right equipment, he's an excellent surgeon, and he's very perceptive. A little training, and he'd make a decent scout.

Even though he's by himself, squatting in an apartment in a bad part of town, he's surprising close to who he was before he was put together. If anything, he's a better doctor then he was before, even if he's missing what he was good at before. Ivan is rude and brusque, with a thick Russian accent. He calls himself Ivan because it amuses him, and he knows that many people really kind of expect it.

When he's not squatting, he spends time hidden in the library reading all day. He's already to letter 'D'. His specialization in high-performance vehicles pretty much demonstrates that he used to be well-off once.

Commentary[edit]

Promethean is kind of difficult to make a character with. On one hand, you've got no past, so you're theoretically free to go in a lot of directions. How did I get this way? Well, I was built for it. And hey, I don't have to explain anything else! But people don't like you, pretty much be default, so they're pretty much all Nosferatu plus they radioactivate anything they're nearby. They're like one-man Fallouts, plus providing their own ghoul population. (Ghoulsville, Pop: 'throng')

The game facilitates play pretty effectively. Here are your awesome powers, they more or less don't get in the way of your concept, and you can pretty much pick one that generically supports it which I find to be a plus after my difficulty with Changeling. Other then that, I'm building with NWoD, which is a good generic modern character generator. I guess the only thing I'm missing are some more Merits. Man, I always want more Merits. I guess that's because every bit of your support system is generated with them - housing, money, mental states, physical perks - some of which are at-creation-only and pricy (Encyclopedic Knowledge, I'm looking at you), pretty much insuring that buying them leave no points for other things.

Anyway, yeah. Ivan rolls sick dice at being a doctor, and if you're a Promethean, there's always Revivification...
