Wiccan Wizard

Rhiannon - Maire - did not learn magic as most Wizards do. She is lost to the Council of Light, but gravitated towards Wicca, where she learned that Rituals worked well for her - and soon enough even learned that she could cast actual spells of Evocation.

Invoke when: Casting Spells or Rituals that involve her Faith. Showing her power as a Wizard. Compel when: Her lack of knowledge about the Council of Light will cause problems. Her magic causes problems with Technology.

What Council?

Maire doesn't know anything about the Council of Light. She's avoided breaking any of their Laws solely because of her adherence to the Wiccan Rede - but there are areas where that might not protect her.

Compel (What else are Troubles for?) when having to deal with Council of Light issues and enemies.

Invoke when not knowing about the Council of Light can be used in aid of deception or trustworthiness.

Curious as a cat

Maire doesn't really know the meaning of the word 'cautious', at least, not when it comes to learning new things.

Invoke when: She might have that odd bit of knowledge picked up who knows when; Researching, as she's had tons of experience.

Compel when: The knowledge is something that probably shouldn't be studied; She gets so into her study that other things fade in her awareness.

Staff of Oak and Ash and Thorn

Maire has a staff made of Oak, Ash and Thorn braided together as the saplings grew. It was given to her by a Changeling whose life she saved.

Invoke when: Using magic that resonates with Nature/Summer; Using magic that affects the Fae; Trying to keep good relations with Summer.

Compel when: Dealing with the Fae, who will make assumptions about the bearer; Having trouble with Winter.

Personal Details

Maire is fairly tall, nearly six feet tall, with rose-gold hair and grey eyes. Dresses most often in ankle-length skirts and button up blouses, usually in shades of blue or black and white.

She was born in Galway Ireland. Her mother Ciara nic Dulshannen died in childbirth, and her father, Jacob Haversham, took her with him back home to America. A Sales Executive with a large Oklahoma firm, he traveled quite a bit, and Rhiannon often spent days or weeks with his rather heavily religious relatives. Some would have soured on religion, but Rhiannon didn't. She listened and she learned. When she went to College, it wasn't terribly far from home - Franklin was closer than San Francisco, after all - but it wasn't overly close, either.

There, she continued to listen and learn. While she was doing that, something suppressed (or just not emergent until then) came out. She learned of Wicca, a religion that most of her relatives would call 'devil worship', and learned more that when she cast a Ritual, it happened. She dove into that, learning more and more, but keeping tight to the teachings she'd already gotten from her Wiccan friends. She learned to cast Evocations - she tends to favor Air and Water, but she's not averse to the other elements.

Her burgeoning magic put a bit of a damper on College - computers kept fritzing out around her, she couldn't keep a cell phone working for long, things like that. She transferred to Community College to maintain library privileges, but now she spends much of her mundane time as a Tour Guide or doing other 'gig economy' jobs that don't require a functioning Cell Phone. She's only told a few people about her abilities. One told her, first - a Changeling named Deanna Jensen. Shortly after, Deanna was attacked by a succubus, and Rhiannon helped her drive the thing away. Deanna, thankful but aware that creatures like that often hunted those in between, Chose to join her Mother's life, as a Dryad. Her last mortal Choice was to grow a staff for Rhiannon, of intertwined Oak and Ash and Thorn.

Another who knows is Alliandre, who Rhiannon often waitresses with. They became fast friends during their first few weeks working together, and one night Rhiannon trusted her with the greatest secret. Alliandre loved it, and keeps that secret, occasionally filling in for her when needed and otherwise supporting her.

What Rhiannon does not know - her father never told her, assuming he knew - is that her mother was a Wizard of the Council of Light. One would think that they would have been aware that a member was pregnant and would keep an eye on her - they weren't, they didn't, and they have no idea that Rhiannon exists.

As she grows more and more active, working to keep the monsters at bay, that will change. But there are bound to be points of friction - the Council of Light and the Wiccan Rede share some tangential elements, but they also have points where they would might be in opposition.
