Background

Eriq Godrick was born to Abraham and Elizabeth Godrick. Abraham was a deeply religious man, a successful businessman, a career politician and at the time of birth of his twin sons he was on the city council of Astoria, Illinois (pop. 30,000). Eriq was the youngest twin, and immediately Abraham, the doctors, and nurses knew there was something...different...about young Eriq. He had point ears, a long spaded tail, and glowing yellow eyes. His father was more then willing to quietly "dispose" of the demon-child but somehow the local paper got word that one of the children had some kind of birth-defect. Unable to get rid of the child now, Abraham made a public show of caring for him earning the sympathy and respect of the voting public (who were never told of Eriq's unique appearance.

Things were not quite so cheery at home. While Eriq's brother Aaron was doted on by his father, Eriq was forced to keep out of his father's way lest he rouse Abraham's ire. Home life was tense, and for a long time Elizabeth was the only one to show kindness to the reclusive Eriq. Eriq came out of his shell at 13, when his powers manifested. One night he woke up while falling through his bed, into the basement, and then suddenly he found himself back in his room. He found it exhilarating. His mother and brother found it worrying. His father saw it as proof he was a demon. Abraham beat his youngest son as the rest of the family watched in shock. Eriq though he was going to die there, but as he looked into his father's eyes and saw that despite Abraham's kindly facade he was a deeply evil man. Eriq saw his father taking bribes, sleeping around, and many other sins. And the Eriq teleported outside the house. Spending a weak healing and hiding in an abandoned house, Eriq wrote down his father's misdeeds and left them under the floorboard. Returning home, he made a deal with his father. Let him stay until he was 18 and Eriq would keep quite. Abraham agreed.

That same month Eriq made his first appearance as Kid Devil. Kid Devil quickly received a reputation as a good-hearted jokester, taking on the small time crooks of Astoria. Part hero, part public nuisance Kid Devil was either loved or hated (often depending on the age of the citizen being asked). All the while, Eriq was quietly gathering evidence of his father's crimes and wrote everything down in the diary he kept beneath the floorboard of the abandoned house. Eriq's life changed again when a family moved into the house. Kid Devil was surprised one night to find an attractive young woman named Laura reading his journal. After an awkward conversation, the two became best friends, and soon became romantically involved.

At 17 Eriq started to unearth a conspiracy. The Crusaders, a secret militia of religious fundamentalists, were planning to take control of the Southern Illinois and make their own Holy Land. People had already been killed and for the first time Kid Devil found himself in actual danger. Eriq had the names of the higher-ups but was shocked to find the whole thing was being organized by his own father. Deciding he needed help, he went to Aaron who he had long suspected of having powers. Aaron knew his father wasn't a good man, but wouldn't believe Eriq's story. Feeling angry and abandoned Eriq left to plan his next move. Deciding to take the evidence to the authorities, he went to Laura's to retrieve his journal. The Crusaders had already been there. The place was a bloodbath, Laura's body was still warm when he found her. She had been tortured, probably for information of him, but Eriq found his journal in the usual spot. Until the end she kept his secret.

What came next became known as Kid Devil's Last Laugh.

As the sunset that night, Kid Devil took his vengeance. It's still a blur to him, but that night he ran wild on The Crusaders. Hitting them at home, at work, their secret bases Eriq was just the Devil. By early morning the battle had taken to the street, with the last Crusader squads being brought down in the city square by the Devil. It was his 18th birthday. As the sun rose, Eriq gave the evidence he collected to the national guard units that had just arrived. And no one ever saw Kid Devil again.

Eriq moved to Port City to get away and began writing in his rundown dockside apartment. But still felt the need to fight the good fight. Creating a darker image, he stopped making jokes, and instead relies on fear and stealth. The Devil of Dockside was the first hero Port City had since the death of The Hammer years before. Believed to be a myth until his public fight with Jack Lantern, The Devil is slow to trust and doesn't let other's get close to him. However with the appearance of the new Kid Devil and his confusing relationship with the slightly insane Anne Sigmond (secretly Firebird} he is beginning to open up a little. Although his hatred for Port City's Paragon Aegis (Aaron Godrick) is widely known, even though the public is unaware of their relationship. Furthermore, while he is known as The Devil of Dockside he operates in all of Port City's districts.

Personality

Eriq is quiet and intelligent. His neighbors consider him a nice guy, but solitary, obsessive even. The as The Devil, he is the terror of the night. Unrelenting, dangerous, and professional. He goes in fast from the shadow, not liking the fight to go on to long so no bystanders get hurt. He never kills for fear of actually becoming a devil. He's distrustful of authority and spends as much time investigating corruption as he does cleaning up the street.

Appearance

Eriq always wears mirrored sunglasses, once he and another person locks eyes he starts reading their minds. He can't help it and hates it, especially when it happens with someone he cares about. Other then that, he doesn't hide his ears but keeps his tail wrapped around his waist. The Devil wears a crimson tattered cloak over a black shirt and pants. He also weres a blindfold so people can't look in his eyes (he can see out of it though). As Eriq grew he also got a set of small fangs in place of his canines.
