Himmilgard is a vast continent, a vast landmass of soaring mountains and dense forests. Rustic communities in the depths of nature. The Fae and magic make travel through the woods dangerous; so for as long history has known, all travel has been through air. Balloons at first, and later powered flight. Zeppelins and cargo airplanes ply the trade routes alongside cargo airplanes, and fighters escort them against aerial pirates, bandits and worse.

Most of recent hijstory was occupied with the Great War. All the major imperial powers on the continent waged a vast and powerful war against each other, and they all soon last control of it, escalating every year. Millions of men died, hundreds of thousands of planes were built and shot down. Deadlier weapons were designed every year.

Until at the end, the war consumed those who created it. Twenty years ago, the Imperial Powers unleashed poison gas weapons against each other. Every major city on the continent was destroyed, and the nations were wiped out. Only the towns and rural communities survived. Among the forests of the wilderness and the wreckage of the war, humanity persisted.

In time, these communities became beset by monsters, bandits, tyrants and survivors of hte war desperate to restart it. Brave pilots took up the surplus machinery of war, painted in bright and inspiring colours, and flew in their defence.

It’s been about two decades since then. The world is recovering and people are reconnecting with one another, but is no less dangerous, so the Flying Circuses still take to the air. Some are still valiant heroes, others are opportunists looking to make some quick cash, but all brave terror and death with every flight.

The Region

  • Ribbeck: See Charlotte!
  • Bürstedt: A trading town on the river Elba, Bürstedt is a moderate sized town with a large port. However, these days, many of the ships lie empty and abandoned. The great waterfall to the north once had an advanced system of locks to lift merchant vessels up and down the mighty falls. However, it was badly damaged in the war, and has not worked for the last twenty years.
  • Tourstraten: Located inland, near the swamps around Udetheim, Tourstraten is a built around the station of one of the defunct Sky Gondolas, and is most inhabited by survivors of Udetheim. The primary industry is scavenging from the ruins of the once mighty city, but productivity seems to have dropped off in recent years.
  • Wiesback: Located high in the mountains in the north, Wiesback has vast fields of crops that support numerous smaller bvillages up in the mountains, working the old mines that bring iron, copper, silver and gold back to the town. The town was once a vassal to Ribbeck, but since the baron went into seclusion a decade ago, the connections have waned and the town has mostly looked after itself.
  • Udetheim: The largest city in the region, it was once a center for aviation research and development. Like every other city on the continent, it was hit by gas bombs at the end of the war, turning it into a toxic tomb for its inhaibtants. Thick clouds of green gas still permeate the city, even after twenty years, seeming almost alive as it blows through the . It's had a strange effect on the plant life of the city, growing it to sizes beyond comprehension. Giant trees choke the gas filled alleys and streets and vines crawls over all the buildings. Vines and trees that will rend people limb from limb if someone takes a wrong step too close to one.
