Fulco Bowyer is a character in the Time Noctem PBP game.

Background

ideas in note form to be written properly later.

Fulco Bowyer, the son of a middle ranking Norman mother and a Saxon bowyer from Conisborough Castle. There original union caused some scandal, but his mother's position meant that Fulco grew up amongst the well bred. When the Lord's eldest son, Robert, left for the Holy Land, Fulco went with him leaving his childhood friends, the Lord's other sons, behind. Robert died in the Battle of Hattin and Fulco returned to Yorkshire with the Lord's hounds and falcon.

Before he returns to his duties as Master of the Lord's Hunt, serving the new Lord, Fulco is heading on a pilgrimage to give thanks for his safe return and to rescue Robert's soul from purgatory.

Robert died in battle and so was unable to receive last rites. Since this was not during a Vatican blessed crusade, he was not pre-absolved of sins and so died a sinner.

Personality

Personable and friendly. Only takes things seriously when they need to be.

Secret

Robert fell in love with a Moorish princess, Sarina Afya, while in the holy land. He was married twice, by Christian and Islamic clerics. They had a son, Husam. Afya died in childbirth.

Robert, not trusting his next elder brother, has placed Fulco as guardian. The child, now three years old, is currently being raised by Fulco's sister and her husband, under the name Adam and claiming that he is their nephew from Lewes.

Quirks

Encouragable

Fulco likes encouragement and advice. When suggestions are made he makes them his own; when support is given he takes it well. He has always done better at archery contents at Conisborough Castle with the support of the locals than when visiting elsewhere. When called to take out the lead of the first charge against the fort at Hattin, many eyes were on him and he performed admirably.

Animal Friend

For unknown reason, animals react well towards Fulco. Ducks, squirrels or rats will feed from his hand; horses, dogs and hawks are calmed; bears, boars and wolves tend not to attack.

Flaw

Encourageable - Fulco is easily egged on towards a challenge. He is known to take the advice of others ahead of common sense on occasion.
