Back to Setting History

In recent years, Golden Dawn has been eager to find greater sources of power. To that purpose, they've engaged on a grand project: The duplication of superhuman abilities.

For a long time, Golden Dawn experimented with spells and a variety of human guinea pigs abducted in the Cryosphere. About 18 months ago, they finally perfected rituals capable of copying almost any superpower. Unfortunately for them, they immediately proceeded to waste such a huge advantage by committing a terrible strategic fumble: They attacked Global Might.

It was, really, an understandable mistake: Arrogance in the superiority of its magic is an endemic flaw of Golden Dawn. Its leadership had hoped to capture members of Global Might - some of the world's most powerful supervillains - and copy their powers, thus making Golden Dawn all but unstoppable. In reality, they vastly underestimated the villainous team: Their attack on Global Might's Cryosphere HQ was quickly followed by a bloody retaliation. Countless Golden Dawn members were slaughtered as Global Might struck across the world. Toxin killed Lord and Lady Lightning in Japan. Valerius eliminated a cell in New York. Blitzkrieg stormed the organization's HQ in the Cryosphere. The massacre only ended after half of Golden Dawn's members across the world had been killed, following which the two groups reached an uneasy truce - it is believed that the only reason Global Might did not go all the way was that Professor Cryo (who often relies on Golden Dawn's mystical resources) put his foot down.

Golden Dawn is still recovering from this disaster. Global Might, on the other hand, came out of it with their reputation only strengthened.
